Runaway install problem - "Impossible to open RESOURCE.000 file"

Runaway install problem - "Impossible to open RESOURCE.000 file" - 09/24/04 06:01 PM

My installation of the game Runaway stopped at 90% and would not continue. So I cancelled the installation, to start over.

Now when I start a new installation I get the error: "Severe - Impossible to open RESOURCE.000 file."

I have manually removed everything that starts with the word Runaway from the computer.

When I go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs, Runaway is still there. When I try to remove it I get the Modify, Repair, Remove screen. Modify and Repair gives me the above error message. Remove does nothing.

What do I need to do to install and play the game?

Thank you.

Which version of Windows?
If you have XP or ME, do you have a restore point you could go back to?

Windows 98SE.

Someone suggested deleting the setup/uninstaller file, but I have no idea what it is named or where it is.

It would be in the Runaway folder I think.
But you already deleted the folder, right?

Yep. Deleted everything I could Find with Runaway in it. Wonder why it still shows up in the Add/Remove list?

Maybe you need to check your registry for references to the game company that made Runaway as well as Runaway. I'm not sure what those would be. Have you tried a registry cleaner?

I've never used a registry cleaner. Can anyone lead the way to a free one?

Hi Randwill-

Can't help with the registry cleaner, but I posted a response for you over at AG. Do a search on your computer for files ending with .isu and see if any turn up for Runaway. That's the uninstaller file you want to delete.

Thanks. I'm afraid in Windows 98SE the only way I know to look for a file is with Find. Typing .isu into "Named:" yields no results. Trying "Containing text:" searches for a long, loooong time finding just about everything on the computer.

I don't know if there is a way to search for a file type. The Advanced tab offers some file types, but .isu is not among them.

I think you'd look for *.isu

Hey Jenny, thanks for that. That turned up 5 Uninstallers, but none for Runaway.

Since I last posted, I restored to three days ago (via the: Safe Mode command prompt only > scanreg/restore method) and was finally able to get the computer to accept the game.

So I was playing, and everything seemed fine until Chapter 2 where there are some sound files that are screwed up. Voices of people who aren't there pop up, and some dialogues go on with no prompting, and the subtitles stick as the dialogue goes on, ect. Twice in Dr. Oliva's (sp?)office the game crashed to desktop when I clicked on a certain question. So it's playable but buggy. Maybe just in this section. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Is there a patch, I wonder?

Glad you got your installation problem sorted out.

I have heard that others had similar problems in that section of chapter 2. There's no patch as far as I know, but hopefully it's only that part of the game.
