Titanic Adv Out Of Time / Win XP ?? - 04/17/03 07:38 PM

Cheers all you Gameboomers!

I am new at this Forum. I have been (and still are) a member at the J A Forum.

My question is actually two:

a) Do you know if(have played)TITANIC Adv Out Of Time will run under XP.
b) Same question but different game; Blade Runner

I have already looked at Infernos page (Superb)and at NT Compatible with no luck.

HI,
Depends on which game you have. The original is not compatible with XP. The new game which is a hybrid between Win and XP will run on the XP.This is a new game sold by Barracuda, and not the original release. IF you have the original, then good luck. Perhaps there is someone out there that can help you with getting it to run on your machine. Otherwise, your are going to have to put out the bucks for the newer version.
I have the original and it had to be tweaked to run on 98, and again on 2000. No way am I going any further unless I absolutely have to.

Hi Looney, this game was originally released for Win3.1/Win95 users. The publisher was GTE. That company is no longer in business. I think the name has been bought by another outfit. The People who are doing the new one, and have the nice website, are the guys who made the game. They have tried to update it to today's systems. However, I don't know if the original extra scenes which were put on the GTE site, will work with this new release. They were really fantasic. Kept one interested in the game. One went to the site and downloaded these scenes periodically and added them to the game. This increased your ramblings about the ship and gave many more areas to explore then were available on the game as it was purchased.
Hope that helps a bit. Oh, BTW, these guys also produced the great TimeLapse. I think they have an update for that one as well.

Looney, I have the original, with the orignal box, and the original soft folder it came in. The original navy blue cd's say GTE on them and the original cardboard folder gives the system requirements. And if one looks at the laser burn on the inner ring of the silver side of the CD it will say 'titanicwin1' this means the first version of the game.
It has been a long time since I played the game but I think it probably has the same two endings on the new one that are on the original. And if the one you have plays on XP, it is not the original version!
Hope this helps,

JJk... these cd's are navy blue, and say hybrid windows and macintosh version... by CyberFlix... lots of great info in the fat booklet... Came in a multifolded cover... Is this the newer one? This is such a great game! Also, just a question..only 2 endings? I've heard of 4 or 5 !! Thank you so much for the info... I'm really into this game!!! I just don't want to play it more times than there are endings! Plus, I would love for the owner to know a little history!Heeeeey! How come you know so much about this anyway? Tell us a story!!! smile

There must be more than one version. Mine is not the newest version. I bought it almost 4 years ago. It came with just a jewel case in the box. The manual was a small thing stuck in the jewel case. The box says Win 3.1, Win 95, and Mac on the box. It also mentions Cyberflix on the box. The CD's were navy blue with silver writing. They don't have titanicwin1 either printed on the CD or stamped into it, but they do have Version 1.0 stamped on the CD. I think this is a reissue version, but since it is 4 years old it would not be the version that is compatible with XP. And it does say Version 1.0 on the CD's.

I heard this game got renewed popularity after the movie Titanic came out, so there may be other old reissue versions. I don't see any references to GTE on my game box or CD's.

There are indeed more than just 2 endings. Which ending you get depends on whether you have managed to successfully acquire three items during the course of the game.

Get all three and you get the best possible ending.

Fail to acquire one or more of the items and the ending will reflect that failure.

Oh, and regardless of which items you manage to acquire, you have to make sure to get off the ship. wink

The walkthrough at Balmoral
http://www.balmoralsoftware.com/titanic/titanic.htm

has a section on Endgame Sequences that lists the various endings and how to get them.

Re: Titanic Adv Out Of Time / Win XP ?? - 04/18/03 10:24 PM

Hi folks interesting thread.
I have the very first release of the game. It came in a box with all sorts of stuff, but the CD's were in a cardboard multifolder, with instructions for getting started printed on the folds. Jenny must have a second or third burn after the first sold out. This was a really popular game. Especially since one could go onto the internet and download the extra scenes to add to the game. I have a downloaded WT dated 1996, with no name on it. This download says two endings. Perhaps this person hadn't found the others. I have always used this WT to play the game, and never really checked the net for any updated stuff. Interesting. Also, DreamFactory, was the toolmaker used to produce this game. On my folder, therefore, the list includes, GTE the publisher, DreamFactory, the tool used to make the game, and Cyberflix the people who created the game.
Looney, if you have a cardboard folder, and it says 'hybrid' on it, I would assume that this is the new release for XP, and they have gone back to the original "folder" for release. I have not seen this one, so I couldn't say.
How many downloaded scenes are available out there? I know that I don't have them all. And I am not sure if those scenes are included in the new release or not, and if they will work with the old game. These files were downloaded and then installed into the game like a patch.

Hi,

It´s only me. I think I will have to clarify something.

HYBRID DISC in this case (TAOOT) means that the game can be played on PC & MAC.

Cheers

Re: Titanic Adv Out Of Time / Win XP ?? - 04/19/03 01:31 AM

Hi,
The reason I said that about the version, is because if it says the word 'hybrid' on the disk or on the folder, then this one is possibly the new one. I say this because on the web site, they are calling their disk a 'hybrid'. This was never on any of the other versions. Mine is the Win only version. They also produced a Mac only version. Perhaps later they produced a win/mac version, but not for GTE. By that time the publisher was gone. They only published Timelapse and Titanic for them, both games very popular, but not money makers I guess. This same type of thing happened with the beautiful puzzle games, Karma, and Jewels of the Oracle.

Mine is a hybrid according to the box, even though the CD's say Version 1.0
So I don't think the fact that it's a hybrid is enough to distinguish it as a Win XP-compatible version.
