Stupid invaders crashing back to desktop

Hi,

I've done a full install and I'm well into the game. First it crashed when I tried to join the alien guts with the alien bone but I got around that using win98 compatibility mode (in XP). Now it crashes just before the Simple Simon puzzle through the secret door. Just crashes right back to desktop.

I've read some messages saying there's a problem with the full install option but I'd rather not reinstall if I can avoid it.

Any ideas?

PS I've already installed the Win2k patch fix and it has no effect. I also tried to lower my hardware acceleration and this also had no effect.

Did you restart the game after loading the patch?
I don't know if it's necessary to do that with this particular patch but thought I'd ask.

I had this problem with another game. To correct the problem I switched from hardware to software rendering (or visa-versa, I don't remember which for sure).

You might try this if you have the option.

Jenny100: Do you mean start again from the beginning or quit the game and restart from my save game? If you meant the first I'd be reluctant to play through most of the game again when I'm not that far from the end. If you meant the latter, yes I did this.

satch: I don't think there is an option to do this in the game, but I did try all the options it offered. Which were not extensive.

I meant from the beginning. Some patches require this, though I don't know about this particular patch. If there was a readme that came with the patch, it might tell you.

Well the readme simply said replace your game.exe with this one so no help there.

Anyway installed it on my windows 98 computer and it worked fine, got to the end and everything.
