Adventure Games on the Nintendo DS

Hey folks!

I was just wondering if any of you have been enjoying the plethora of adventure and adventure-adjacent games available on the DS?

I was wondering the same myself - it's so small! I sort of requested one for christmas then changed my mind!

I'm not usually in a situation to play games until I get home when I can play them on a much larger screen which I would choose over something more miniscule! The only advantages of it I can see, that don't apply to me, are that you can play games on the move, in your working lunch hours, on holiday?

I'd be interested to know the attraction of it? :smile12:

I use mine when I am waiting in doctor's offices. I took it on vacation, as I don't have a Laptop. I also wanted it for when we lose pwer as it runs on batteries. :wave12:

Hi Ray. I've been playing Trace Memory and Professor Layton. I have Hotel dusk, Lost in Blue and Phoenix Wright and looking forward to playing them. I spend most of my playing time on the PC, so haven't played many DS games. Do you have some favorites to recommend?

I played Animal Crossing for a long time and have recently picked it up again.

I always take mine along on trips.

I will play mine on trips,while waiting for the doctor, and before I go to bed. I love the portability of it(smaller and lighter than a laptop). I have about 20 games for it, in various stages of play. I am currently playing Zelda, Dragon Quest and Millionheir. I also bought Amazing Adventures:The Forgotten Ruins for myself for X-mas. I am also looking forward to the Mystery P.I. game that is supposed to be out next week.

I love my DS! I like to be able to pick it up here and there throughout the day.

I liked Zelda, Professor Layton, and the Phoenix Wright games. I have Hotel Dusk, and Trace Memory also. In the process of Trace Memory, have not started Hotel Dusk.

I have a DS and have seen alot of adventure games at the moment. The only problem is the games are just re-release versions of the PC games, Syberia, Myst.. I wish there were a few more orignal games, something made just for the DS from someone like Jonathan Boakes or Matt Clark.

I really like my DS, it's just than when my nieces come over, they borrow my games, still waiting for the return of Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing is wonderful - i just completed the Museums fossil collection but will the game give me a tuna to catch ? Nope !
Prof Leyton was fun, Hotel Dusk was great, Undercover is good although I am stuck, thats a proper adventure & the MCF Millionheir HOG game was great although I had to get it from Asia as it was not available in the UK & USA sites won't ship to us. Trace Memory was lovely. I finished Jewel Quest yesterday.

EDIT: After 15 mins searching I finally found a site that will ship Forgotten Ruins to the UK, woo hoo.

I'm a DS fan too. It's great for travelling,especially on the plane. I can play it at night when I can't sleep and it doesn't wake up hubby.

Like someone mentioned it is great when we have a power outage, although I have a laptop, it's batteries run out very quickly.

I find I have trouble finding all the Adventure games for the DS though. I try to keep a list when I hear of a new one, just so I can keep checking stores for them.

Have not bought Animal Crossing, not sure if it is the type of thing I would like, though it is getting a lot of hype.

Just bought my daughter one for Xmas, so we can compete on Brain Age.

I just noticed 2 new DS adventure games in Game Informer this month: Again, Eye of Providence and Flower, Sun, and Rain.

Not sure that either would be my cup of tea, but am glad to see all the games being made.

I love my DS. It's great for when I'm too sick to be out and about and at the puter, but feel well enough to be bored. I can play in bed :wave12:

We had a power failure last night. I grabbed my DS and the hour went very quickly.

Orchid Girl, I think you might like Animal Crossing. It is my favorite DS game. I never played any Sims games and this is more like an adventure to me. Even more fun if you have wireless and can visit other player's villages.

Orchid Girl, Animal Crossing is totally addictive, you can do as much or as little as you like, there is so much you can do, you can design dresses, invent constallations, decorate your home, make friends, go fishing & insect hunting, dig up fossils & other objects & best of all you can go shoppity shopping.
I made a snowman yesterday and visited Pokeys town, her house is beautifully decorated.

Would anyone consider the Lego games on DS as adventure games. I have been totally addicted to Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman, although I don't care so much for Lego Star Wars.

Professor Layton is almost unobtainable here in the UK unless you want to pay £20 over the recommended price but my stepmother wants it.

I notice someone else mentioned Jewel Quest. I've been addicted to that on the PC and like it as a relaxation game on my DS.

I know that Animal Crossing is very successful and popular but I've not bothered with it as I seem to see it as a cross between Zoo Tycoon (which I have on PC & DS but never yet played on DS) and the Sims which I used to play lots on my PC but always preferred building and furnishing the houses rather than nurturing a Sim through life.

Maybe I should try Animal Crossing if I can find it at a good price in a local store as too late now really for any deliveries before Christmas unless I pay for express delivery.

OK, Pokey and JennyP, you have made me interested in getting Animal Crossing. Can I yell at you if I don't like it.

I'd love to have you visit my village. I may even have some extra furniture to help you get started furnishing your house. My villagers would love to meet you.

JennyP, I know you asked this yesterday, but I find I can sometimes get games at Gamestop quicker than at Best Buy. BB seems to take it's time getting these games, but Gamestop often has them the day they are released. I'm glad you found a company that will ship to the UK. I haven't played it yet, it's an x-mas present to myself.

I like my DS a lot too, though I wouldn't want an adventure game for it. When I play adventure games, I like to see the beauty of the scenery on a big screen. Though I am curious about how Myst would work on a DS. I wonder if they would utilize the touch screen.

Orchid girl, you are very very welcome to visit me in Animal Crossing, you will adore it, I promise you. I got rid of my green hair & am now platimun blonde. You need someone to visit you & spend money in your shop before you get a hairdresser, then you can spend all your money getting your hair done.
Major P, have you tried Millionheir ? Its easily available for USa folk.

Long time no see Ray. It's good to see you back. Wow, they have adventure games for consoles? I've never seen any in the local video stores that rent such things. Please tell me more.

I have been thinking about a DS, but when I saw the tiny screen on it I questioned whether I could see it well enough with these old eyes (we just bought a new large print dictionary). I know I do need new glasses, but the screen is so small. Could you enjoy something like the Ankh game on it? Would magnifying glasses help?

Has anyone made a list of all the adventure games available for DS?

Another Question: Someone mentioned that they had to go to a UK seller to get a certain game. Does that mean that the DS games are the same format in both US & UK and can be played on any DS (unlike PS 2 games).

No one has mentioned PSP which has a larger screen. I assume that the adventure type games are not available for PSP? I also assume the US and Europian formates are different like the PS 2?

Does the PS 3 have the same problem we had with the PS 2, different formats for US and Europe?

HI MrBill, THe DS games can be shared within the UK and the US. I'll let some other console pros answer the other questions.

The only adventure game I know of that has a PSP version is Myst. But you can play old LucasArts games on it using ScummVM for PSP -- as well as any other old games that ScummVM supports.

We did have a list of DS games , mostly adventure games, on this forum started by Dragonuk. But I can't find it anymore as it must have gone to archives.

Maybe a moderator can find it for you.

mrbill, a PSP has a much larger screen, though if you play a game that involves reading things, or looking at something in detail, it still may be hard to see. Though the resolution is often good.

JennyP, I haven't tried that game, but I just took a look at it on the net, and it looks really interesting. And it uses both screens so well! I really haven't come across a game that does so. Sometimes, the top or bottom screen may even be left black because they didn't put anything on it.

Mr Bill, many great DS games take a year between USA & UK releases, its very frustrating. I have bought the USA games from Play Asia & ebay with no problems. USA companies will generally not ship to the UK.
Major P, Hotel Dusk uses both screens too. And Trace Memory.
Of course you caannot use the wand on the top screen. If you get Animal Crossing, please PM me & we can arrange to visit each others towns.
