What's the name of this game?

I'm trying to think of the name of an old game. Probably a DOS game, likely going back to the early 90's. The plot involved gaining access to a castle or tower. In order to accomplish this, you had to enlist the aid of this sinister character that you met in a pub or inn. You had to prove your worth to this character by breaking into the house of one of the town's rich inhabitants and stealing something that he wanted. Before gaining access to the castle, you also had an encounter in the town with a young boy of some ill repute that you met down an alley.

Can anybody remember the name of this game?

Part of that plot sounds like the first Hero Quest if you played as a thief. But also reminds me of Lure of the Temptress. I'm with you Uncle Reg I also now want to know what game this is...

It could also be Death Gate.
