The Raven,Download ONLY?

The Raven,Download ONLY? - 01/10/14 12:57 PM

I was just over @ Amazon.com surfing and came across The Raven, clicked on it and it shows it as a retail game and it confused me,. Correct me if I am wrong but all other sites, including Steam. shows it as a download. I would so love to have a retail box but with it having three release dates how can it be contained in a solo retail box?

The 3 parts have already been released so they could easily sell it as one game (which it is).

Hi there, I bought the game from Amazon UK on disc and it is all 3 parts, so I guess it should be the same in the US. luck

Hi monbron, did you buy the game from Amazon US? I got mine from Amazon.co.uk, and I noticed that in the Digital Deluxe content, only chapter 1 of the storybook exists... Is it the same in the US release?
I wonder if the two releases are identical.

Hi SirGraham, good job I noticed your post!! No I got mine from Amazon UK, am looking at the box and I don't see anything about Digital deluxe, it just says The Adventure Company, Nordic games division. However I do remember that you have to play each chapter before the next one appears in 'New Game'. Hope this helps. think

I remember that too, monbron, and thought it was a really weird way of getting to the next chapter woozy
Thoroughly enjoyed the game though laugh

Re: The Raven,Download ONLY? - 02/05/14 05:29 PM

Hi monbron, good job indeed! smile

Ok if you got it from Amazon.co.uk then we have the same thing, because there's only one PC version available there.

However, in my game, all three chapters are available for play when I press New Game, they're completely independent (I just checked).

Anyway, I wasn't talking about the game itself, but about the PDF "storybook" that the game installation puts on your hardrive. Perhaps you missed it and you don't know that you actually have the Digital Deluxe edition? blush
It came as a very good surprise to me as well, since I thought the Digital Deluxe is a Steam-exclusive, and indeed the game box and manual don't say anything about this.
This bonus content can be found in "\Program Files (x86)\Nordic Games\The Raven\DigitalDeluxe" (at least on my machine).

Also, don't you see the game's Launcher when you start it each time? I see this:

http://imageshack.com/a/img713/7205/20n6.jpg

Look on the middle-right - there's a button saying "Show digital deluxe content" right there smile

So, do you also have only chapter 1 of the storybook?

By the way, if you do have the Launcher, is it like mine, with the weird announcement about the release of chapter 3? I find it weird that it appears in a DRM-free retail game... I guess it's a leftover from Steam or something, since it's completely irrelevant laugh

Also, my Launcher looks for updates each time I start the game but never finds any :\ I really hope the game is already updated on the disc and not buggy like the original Steam release eek
I'll find out as I continue playing.

Re: The Raven,Download ONLY? - 02/06/14 09:06 PM

Hi SirGraham, Yes I have exactly the same as you including the Launcher and Digital Deluxe content, I have had no problems with the next games being ready when I finish the last, the only problem I have had was with the lock pick puzzle which drove me insane but with Gameboomers usual excellent service I received a save game and carried on and I am nearly finished. It reminds me of a Hercule Poirot game. So I hope you enjoy it - Good Luck taz

Hi All,
I recieved my Raven today from Amazon. On the back of the case is this notice! Product offered subject to your acceptance of the Steam Subscriber Agrement ("SSA). You must activate this product via the internet by registering for a Steam account and accepting the SSA. (ect) If you do not agress with the provisions of the SSA ;you should return this game unopened to your retailer in accordance with their return policy.
What is up? I agree not to copy ect and all of that but to have to join Steam!

What do you think?

THere are other disk games that require Steam as well. Usually you can find it in the reviews on Amazon or description before purchasing. Sorry you don't like it.

My edition did not require Steam and seems to be nothing to do with them, I have had other games that were Steam which can be a bore as they take so much longer to load as you have to go through Steam each time. thumbsdown

Re: The Raven,Download ONLY? - 02/08/14 05:29 PM

@ssgamer - I didn't know this game has more than one retail version, I thought what we and monbron got is the only version - this is what I got (and probably monbron as well). Can you put here a link to what you got? I'm curious cause I can't find it.

Hmmm... maybe after you'll connect to Steam you'll get the chapters of the Storybook that I'm missing, and if I understood correctly, monbron is missing as well? smile Actually I still don't know if they got them on Steam, maybe they don't exist at all, but it's weird that they'd do a chapter 1 without 2 and 3.

Originally Posted By: monbron

This is really odd, since we assume we have the same version - I had no problem starting chapter 2 or 3 WITHOUT finishing chapter 1, there was no block... so if you're sure that in your version you COULDN'T start chapter 2 before finishing chapter 1, it means there are three retail versions crazy
Something doesn't seem right.

Re: The Raven,Download ONLY? - 02/08/14 05:44 PM

For anyone who doesn't want to have to connect to Steam, I strongly recommend the GOG version, which is the version I have. Personally, I prefer their versions over any other game versions these days, including disk copies as several of them have Steam requirements or limited activations now, which companies don't tell you before you purchase the games. I found that out the hard way with Yesterday. It only has three activations (I've already used one) and once they're all used up, I can't play my game anymore. Had I known that, I would have looked for it somewhere else or at least waited until it was on sale, as I feel I overpaid the $30 on a game I can only rent long term.

The only downside to getting The Raven on GOG is that it isn't the deluxe version. I do wish they had that one as well, but I'd take the regular DRM free version over a deluxe version with DRM.

I ordered the game, retail, from Amazon.com US for only $19.99. It states that all three episodes are on the disc.
