A very interesting read. Like most other entertainment media, an adventure game needs a good story with a strong story arc, characters you can identify with and/or learn to care about, a sense of really existing in some place or time, and a motivation to move forward through its various challenges. The best games, like the best books and films, accomplish all of these things and totally enthrall us in the process. My hat is off to someone who can craft a truly fine game, one we all fondly recall a decade or more after having played it. I hope to see the genre continue to evolve!
