Broken Sword 5 boxed retail - requires Steam?? - 06/27/14 07:43 PM

Hi,

Can someone who purchased the DVD boxed retail version of Broken Sword 5 tell me whether this version indeed requires Steam to work?

I saw it on Amazon.co.uk without any mentioning of this:

Thanks

SirGraham,
If no one answers you, try emailing DVDGamingDirect, the seller whose link is on that page right under Only (Yay Many) Games Left in Stock.
Ask them if the game requires Steam.
Tell them it's coming right back if you buy it and later find out that it does.
That should ensure that they take a close look at the box.

Alternatively, you could email Revolution and ask them.
There's a contact link at the bottom of the page.

Gil.

It doesn't look to me like it requires Steam, but I think Gil has the best advice. wave

Just reading about this
apparently the collectors edition has a stream key
the regular edition doesnt so that's the one I ordered.
at least there was no mention of it in the product description.
hope this helps out.dianne wave

When you receive your regular edition, please let us know for sure whether it uses Steam or not.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_using_Steam_authentication

It also mentions whether there are retail discs for the games, BS5 is not listed.

This list doesn't include it either, so from the looks of it it doesn't require steam.

The description of the Collector's version of Broken Sword 5 at Amazon does list a Steam key, yet it is not listed on either of those two websites
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Broken-Sword-Serpents-Collectors-Edition/dp/B00KOOSVMQ/qid=1404409671
Quote:
Collectors Includes

Collector’s Edition- Game Box
Broken Sword 5 – Game DVD (with Steam Key)

So unless Amazon.co.uk is wrong, neither of the wikipedia nor the steampowered website is a complete listing.

Thank you all for replying...

I was really hoping that at some point in the future a collector's edition will be released without a Steam key, as it really doesn't make sense to force a Steam connection on COLLECTORS, but that hope is now dead... and that's a box filled with physical goodies! What a shame...

Those lists are for Steam-ONLY games, BS5 was released on GOG so it won't be there.

@dianne - please update us when you receive the game and install it confused

well I asked the question on Amazon if Broken Sword5 the Serpents curse
requires a stream key and a couple of people who have purchased the
regular boxed version answered back to me and said yes it requires a stream key.
I haven't received my game yet.but it is on the way.
why does stream have to be there
in the first place I purchased a retail version.
sorry if I sound like I am venting.

That's disappointing news that the game requires a Steam key. I would want to vent about that, too. wave

That sort of thing should absolutely be made clear in the game requirements. I'd be peeved too. Thanks for letting us know, dianne.

That's happened to me, too, although with an RPG. No pre warning of "Steam" being required at ALL mad

I think you should.
You should also write the publisher of the game.

You see what's happening --
They make DVD versions of games dependent on Steam, so people avoid buying them since there's no advantage over buying straight from Steam (and less advantage from buying from DRM-free download sites). Then they claim that DVD versions aren't selling so they stop making them.
