Microïds, the indie publisher specializing in adventure titles, and noted game designer Paul Cuisset today revealed an Oculus Rift stretch goal for the Subject 13 adventure game Kickstarter campaign currently underway. The game’s appeal for funding is on track with over 30% of funding pledged by backers just seven days into the 30-day campaign.
The game’s early supporters got a welcome surprise as Cuisset announced that he will sign all boxed copies pledged by the initial 300 backers—and additional fans can get on board with this offer with a new $60 pledge that will also include a signed boxed copy.
The newly revealed stretch goal to add support for the innovative Oculus Rift virtual reality headset adds the opportunity for players to become further immersed in the mysterious world of Subject 13. With Oculus Rift support, the game will remain in a third-person perspective that allows players to see the protagonist Franklin Fargo interact with his environment while having full control of the camera through headset tracking. This unique gameplay perspective can only be experienced if adventure game fans meet the new stretch goal—but new screenshots released today show more of the game in action.
“Each day, we see how strong the Kickstarter community is for communicating with players,” said Paul Cuisset. “We thank each and every player who has pledged. Please keep telling your friends who love adventure games to come visit our page—with your help we can bring players a great adventure game experience!”
In Subject 13, players will take on the role of Franklin Fargo, a physics professor who has become a recluse after the tragic death of his fiancée. One morning, he wakes up in an abandoned underground scientific facility with no external contact other than a mysterious voice. The voice calls him "Subject 13." As Franklin Fargo, players will interact with the 3D environment around them by collecting, using, and manipulating objects to overcome a multitude of devious barriers to the professor’s escape. Fargo’s goal is to not only set himself free but discover the true reasons for his imprisonment—can he escape from the prison of his past?
Subject 13 is currently being developed in collaboration with Microïds for PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. More details are available at the Subject 13 Kickstarter page, which will be continually updated throughout the 30-day campaign.

The Story
We don't want to reveal too many details on the story and plot, as progressively discovering the mystery and collecting information is a key aspect of the game. But we can tell you how your adventure starts:
Your name is Franklin Fargo. You're a former physics professor. You live a lonely and quiet life after the death of your fiance. Day after day, it's the same routine, filled with bitter memories of the life you lost. But when you wake up today, it's different. You have a headache, feel dizzy, and have trouble opening your eyes. You quickly glance around you and you start to panic. You're locked into a room that's so small that it's barely big enough to keep from suffocating. You take a deep breath, remembering what happened the day before. You were on the couch after eating your TV dinner. You were about to go to sleep. Then a blinding light burst forth throughout the whole room. You cried out in shock. This is the last thing that you remember.
Suddenly, a voice says:
"Franklin? Franklin, can you hear me?"
A shiver runs through you. Oddly enough, you aren't overcome with panic. But you do have an unpleasant, uncomfortable feeling that won't go away.
"Don't worry," the voice says.
You look around you and see a hologram light up, and the logo: "Hexatech Labs". That's when you realize you have every reason to be worried . . .
