1953 KGB Unleashed - 07/11/14 09:54 PM

I see ShinyLoot has the game on sale and I would like to get some input on the game from someone that has played it.
Thanks.

Well it appears that no one has played the game. I guess I'll have to go to YouTube to see what I can find. Thanks.

Hi Winfrey. I was interested in the game when ShinyLoot had it on sale but it's back up to 19.99, so I'll watch for another sale. Did you like the game?

Re: 1953 KGB Unleashed - 07/16/14 02:46 AM

It was ok., if you don't mind a game primarily about a man escaping from prison ...It is totally inventory puzzles. It was not that hard. I played it in 2 days. It wont go down as one of my favorites., but it wasn't bad either....But if helping someone escape would bother you....don't play it.....

Thanks Winfrey. How ya been? Haven't heard from you in ages!
I suppose my question would be as for helping someone escape...........was he guilty?

If 1953 KGB Unleashed is on sale from Shinyloot again in the future (which I'm guessing it will be before the 101 days are over) I'd definitely recommend you go for it. Imo it's even worth its regular price and, maybe even more importantly, your time playing it. I enjoyed it very much. Not top ten material, but not bad at all. I think the same people developed the better known game Outcry (which I haven't played yet so I don't know if the games are similar in style).

I don't know what site you got it from, but I assume Ana recognized it as a site that didn't have authority to sell the game. Steam has been hacked more than once (and other companies that provide codes may also be hacked) and the Steam code you were provided with may be stolen. Here's a link for a Steam forum topic about another game where there was a problem with unlicensed or stolen Steam codes. The developer who posted gave a list of online sellers that are licensed to distribute Steam keys.

Quote:
To clarify, one of our PC retail distributors informed us that some of their allotted Steam keys were stolen. We believe these keys were then resold to multiple companies, with no payments going to either Valve or the retail distributor.

Steam were immediately informed and have now revoked that set of keys.

A clue for me was getting a game for $1 or Euro. Unless it's a reputable site like GOG, this is a sure sign the site is not reputable and the code is stolen.

Re: 1953 KGB Unleashed - 07/27/14 10:29 PM

Hi Drac. wave I've gotten some pretty inexpensive games from GOG and Steam, as well as ShinyLoot. I would have thought if the codes were stolen, and if they knew which batch numbers they included, they would have cancelled them. I must do some more checking on this game site and perhaps others.

Thanks,
Terri

Terri, getting game keys from a website that is selling keys for all over for cheap is a clear sign its not legitimate. Just like seeing a deal on ebay selling new games for half price you can smell a rat and figure they are bootlegs. If Steam has a sale, that is great, but going to a key selling website is risky business and not legit in most cases.

Re: 1953 KGB Unleashed - 07/27/14 10:58 PM

GOG, Steam, Big Fish and to some extent Shiny Loot are considered reputable. If the site is unknown, I would avoid it like the plague. And going to these sites is a SURE FIRE way to get malware downloaded. If you did any business with an unknown site, run all your security scans and change your passwords. If you used a credit card, watch it like a hawk.

If I'm remembering correctly, Terri had some issues with Shiny Loot.

Re: 1953 KGB Unleashed - 07/28/14 05:27 PM

As far as I know, the only problems with ShinyLoot were what oldmariner posted in post #895356 of this forum thread last year:
http://www.gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/873775/Shiny_Loot_New_DRM_Free_Downlo

The problems had to do with rar files that extracted with WinRAR but not with 7-zip. Also that not everything they sold was DRM-free, though they advertised some DRM-free games, and as oldmariner said, "you have to pay attention."

Thanks. I was curious, as they have a permanent spot at the top of the forum here. I've never used them myself. Always good to know, though.

This might happen if the file was compressed with a new version of WinRAR that introduced "new features" unique to WinRAR, and which 7-zip did not understand.

Drac. I did run a scan and everything was ok. Thanks everyone for your input on non-reputable sites. Will pay more attention, looks like I was lucky this time!
Terri

I did have a problem with a d/load from ShinyLoot. Glad it was mentioned, I need to go back and get that matter taken care of.

I finished the game, it was rather short. Had I paid full price for it I would not be happy, I didn't really care for it! wave
