About Crimes & Punishments
Crimes & Punishments marks the most important stage in the Sherlock Holmes series. The decision by Frogwares studios to switch from the in-house engine to the Epic Unreal Engine 3 enables a much richer, more immersive and detailed rendering of both the environments and characters.

But the change of game engine has not only improved the graphics; new investigation techniques have been developed and the game can now offer 14 game mechanics. From the opening of each of the six investigations up to the arrest of the culprits and the moral dilemmas faced by the players, the new game mechanics convey the feeling of BEING Sherlock Holmes. Players will therefore be able to exploit the incredible gifts and talents for which he is renowned, such as his ability to guess the details of an individual's life simply by observing them, or to imagine and reconstruct a past event by studying the key features of a crime scene.

Thanks for the news, just a couple of clarifications please, will this require Steam to play and will it have a 3rd person option? Thanks for any help you might provide.

Hi Butcher,

Yes, it has third person option.

As for requiring Steam to play, I don't know for sure -- but Testament did not, so I would think Crimes & Punishments would be the same. Testament only required online activation. Let's wait for clarification on this one. smile

Looks fantastic but I'm a little apprehensive about having different endings. To me that means we won't be getting MaG's wonderful text walkthrough. I hate video walkthroughs. That is why I haven't bought the new Tex Murphy game.

Don't worry, judith, MaG is writing a walkthrough for this one. She was given early access to the game, so has had lots of time to play and write! bravo

Re: Sherlock Holmes Crimes & Punishments Release Date and New Trailer - 08/29/14 05:51 PM

Thanks, Rushes. Looks like even my new graphic card won't be able to handle it. sad Oh, well, I was planning on waiting anyway as it looks like it will only be offered on Steam again. I tend to buy from GOG if I can, and if something is only available on Steam, I wait for a heavy discount. By the time that happens, I may be ready to purchase a new card anyway. smile

Re: Sherlock Holmes Crimes & Punishments Release Date and New Trailer - 08/29/14 05:58 PM

That's a shame, venus. :(

It's available in disc format too, if you'd prefer that, if, as and when you upgrade. smile

Re: Sherlock Holmes Crimes & Punishments Release Date and New Trailer - 08/29/14 06:04 PM

Thanks, Rushes. I'd definitely prefer a disk version if there aren't limited activations. I'll wait for more news on that one. grin

Just out of curiosity, do you think my Sapphire Radeon 240 could handle it if I turned some options down? I realize it's probably too soon to ask that question, but it's worth a try. smile

I'm not especially knowledgeable on graphics cards, but I'm sure if you posted that question over in Glitches they'd be able to tell you. laugh

Thanks. That's fine, I'll just wait until the release to worry about it. smile As I said, I won't be able to get it right away anyway. In the meantime, maybe they'll be a demo I can try out. smile
