Sierra Games Revival? King's Quest Coming Back!

Looks like Sierra Games will be represented at Gamescom 2014 this year! They opened a website here and they have a very vague teaser here!

I'm sure our very own kickaha aka Peter Rootham-Smith will be sleuthing out the facts when he gets there!

As BrownEyedTigre said I am attending Gamescom in Cologne next week, and have the real honour (honor) of representing GameBoomers as I meet people. Much appreciated is the help from the GameBoomers team in enabling what I'll be doing there.

I hope to interview game developers there to do a GameBoomers article about the people who make the games we love.

I will also be picking up information about forthcoming games, perhaps seeing demos of them, and feeding that back to GameBoomers.

Wow! Just seeing the Sierra logo again sure does bring back memories. When I first became interested in computer games in the early '90s, they were the powerhouse of the gaming industry. I wonder if it's possible that we'll see a new Gabriel Knight adventure (considering how the last one left us hanging) or possibly an update of GK: Sins of the Father. A girl can hope, can't she ?

Thanks for posting the link. I will be in line with credit card in hand to download the 20th anniversary edition the minute it's released. The graphics are amazing, and it will almost be like playing a brand new game.

Exciting News!!

I am a huge fan of Ken and Roberta Williams and played all the quest games that were made by the original Sierra On Line. I would love to see some kind of return of Sierra but am rather skeptical. It was a corporation that bought and destroyed Sierra and now another corporation is going to revive it?

I have a wait and see attitude and will believe it when I see it.

Also, although I've pretty much given up on ever seeing Episode 5 of The Silver Lining, I'm wondering how this could effect their game.

The Silver Lining is still coming, it is by no means cancelled.

I was beginning to wonder about TSL Ep. 5, also. Thanks for the info about the game is still coming, Ana. If anybody knows about this, YOU certainly do.

Not quite sure about this, to be honest...I would not be surprised if the brand is revived by someone cynical enough to view this as a way to sell more facebook and mobile games by pandering to gamer nostalgia.

I agree with Drizzt's post above. I certainly hope to see more games in the true Sierra spirit. But does anyone remember the Leisure Suit Larry "sequels" from 2004 and 2009? If someone does the same to the King's Quest series, I'll never forgive them.

Rebooted King's Quest Adventure Game Won't Be a Point and Click

New versions of old games rarely capture the spirit of the original, in my expereince.
So I tend to view them as just "new" and give them a go in that frame of mind

That's for sure.
And fan remakes are often better than commercial remakes because those in charge of commercial remakes have a warped idea of what made the originals popular.

Nothing that The Odd Gentlemen have produced makes me think they are capable of making an adventure game. They make these "cute" little arcade games, mainly for console. I suspect they were chosen to develop the project simply because they put in the lowest bid.

I'm a little confused. The original Kings Quest was not a point and click game it was keyboard only. Maybe they are meaning that if we are expecting a Point and Click etc. I remember those days where you navigated with arrow keys and had to type in your speech commands.

Sierra's VGA remake of KQ1, as well as their later King's Quest adventure games, took advantage of technological progress and used the mouse. And you can bet any modern commercial remake won't be using a parser.

There's nothing wrong with those games if your young kids enjoy them.
But that's not what the King's Quest games were about.
I'd rather not see the King's Quest series turned into an arcade game for pre-schoolers -- and why would Activision hire a company that specializes in arcade-type games for pre-schoolers if that isn't what they had in mind.

King's Quest - Coming in 2015

This is certainly exciting news, though I'll have to wait for more information to see whether or not it's something I'll want to play. I really like the description of the game, though I hope the look and tone of it differ from the previous games Jenny has linked to. So I'm tentatively excited. At least we're getting a Sierra revival, which isn't something I thought would ever happen.
