Bosch's Damnation - 10/23/14 05:31 PM

Does anybody know when this game might be available on BF?

Thanks.

They do not announce their offerings in advance, so no way to tell.

The last few Carol Reed games have not been released on Big Fish, so I suspect that this won't be either. But only Mikael knows for sure. wave

It may not be on Big Fish, but I did see that it was just released on Steam - http://store.steampowered.com/app/337130/?snr=1_7_7_230_150_1.

Does anyone know what distribution platforms are going to be available for Shades of Black?

There is a Shades of Black thread here.

If you can, it's always good to help the developer the most by purchasing direct from them.

Great news - thanks, razorsedge4444!
I hope other Carol games would get to Steam as well soon now.

Mikael has given "second to none" service from the very start and now he is moving to "downloads" I have no doubt at all that this will continue thumbsup
Plus .... allowing us to burn his games to disk ourselves is just the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned bravo

Re: Bosch's Damnation - 07/30/15 03:23 AM

Yes, it looks like the rest of the Carol games will find their way into Steam sooner or later. I'm currently in the process of defining so called "Steam achievements". Not an easy process, since they first had to explain to me what those achievements actually are.

Did I forget to mention that I'm oldschool? smile

I also am not a fan of achievements. laugh

I like them. lol

Re: Bosch's Damnation - 07/30/15 03:54 AM

I like Steam achievements a lot - they are fun, and they keep you re-playing the game in all possible ways smile
'Bosch's Damnation' already has Steam achievements, but I think they are rather boring there - all of them are llke 'You've unlocked that door' and 'You've found that man'. They are all unmissable thus.

Mikael, Steam achievements could be either unmissable (story-related) or missable. Unmissable you get automatically when you progress through the game. And missable are those you have to do some obscure optional actions to get. The best strategy I think is to have them 50/50. So you would get some achievements for just playing the game in a linear way, but the rest you have to hunt for. Not like 'look at that strange object 50 times in a row and get awarded with 'You are too curious' achievement' - but like 'Find that strange object nobody usually finds'.

Re: Bosch's Damnation - 07/30/15 04:15 AM

Iurii, I agree with you. I wasn't responsible for the achievements in Bosch's Damnation, and my main criticism about them was nearly identical to yours. I've just fleshed out the achievements for Shades of Black, and they are all missable (according to your way of phrasing it). Having completed a game should be unrelated to your achievements.

Well, that's my "expert" opinion. smile

Achievements are a pain when one is writing a walkthrough under time pressure. wink

Re: Bosch's Damnation - 07/30/15 05:55 AM

Mikael, that's great to hear, thanks!

And I hope you would add Steam trading cards to the games as well! They are much easier to add than Steam achievements - you have to draw (i.e to cut from game pictures) 5 to 15 cards, 6 'badges' and about 5 'emoticons' and 5 wallpapers. They are all both fun and steady income smile

Re: Bosch's Damnation - 07/30/15 06:57 AM

So will a "Non Steam" release also include these "achievements" ??

[ As far as I'm aware, the only "in game achievements" I've ever encountered are those that have appeared in some of the Casual games from Big Fish - and I've always just ignored all those laugh ]

Re: Bosch's Damnation - 07/30/15 12:38 PM

Mad, the Steam version will identical to other versions of the game. It's just that certain actions will not be labeled achievements in the non-Steam versions.

Oh, I see smile

Thanks for clarifying that, Mikael thumbsup
