Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/09/16 04:44 PM

Anamedia is a Myst-like adventure created by a two-woman team indie team called Similia.

Check out the demo here.

View the Teaser trailer here.

Quote:
ANAMEDIA is a 2D explorative adventure full of logical puzzles that you’ll find quite various in typology and difficulty.
You can explore every location proceeding by fixed screens, as a typical point-and-click interaction, using the mouse only.
We hope that our undeniable passion for classic point-and-click, and for the Myst series in particular, satisfies anyone in love with this genre.

the plot

Everything begins in a charming place called LEVANDA, where you'll soon realize that your journey is just about to become more complex, peculiar and spellbinding than you expected! In fact, the giant willow tree looks deserted and the friend you were supposed to meet, didn't wait for you!

Why?

Thanks to a diary written by a stranger named Karr, you'll discover the existence of an unknown land called ANAMEDIA, whose fragile equilibrium is kept alive by massive machinery; but that illusive idyllic land is now on the brink of collapse, as these machines lie idle. You'll have to reach ANAMEDIA with your own strenght.
It will be up to you to restore stability of that world unveiling its origins, culture and language!

puzzles

The game is rich in puzzles, quite different in nature and difficulty but never impossible to overcome; no technical-scientific skill is therefore required to solve them, just a bit of logic and intuition. The DEMO version will prove it!

problem solving

We tried to prevent common and well known issues and up to now there’s no evidence of others but those listed below.
Anyone with a little experience in playing is well aware, however, of how hard it is to predict the progression of a game on all operating systems.
Each case of malfunctioning will be dealt with individually and our full support will be guaranteed.

Happy Gaming!

Glad to finally see a new 2D Myst-type game.
Shouldn't be any motion sickness problems with that.

Hi! My name is Silvia. I'm one of the TWO Similia and cocreator of ANAMEDIA!
Thank you so much for the interest in our game ... it's fuel for our engine! yes

Our main purpose is not to disappoint who loves Myst-like games.
Today Anamedia is like a child who needs a lot of care and this is what we are going to do, even if the path should be longer and harder than expected, just as we take great care of gamers opinions and criticism
... so play the demo and shoot! lol
Whatever you need I'm here, at your disposal!

Thanks again Ana and you all! wave

Hello Cookie

Love the game so far although I am stuck at the moment. I know this is just the Demo but will the completed game be wide screen? The only thing I wish was different was the cursor. A more conventional one would be nice, everything else so far is neat and the puzzles are cool. Are you a long way from release? Trying to make a map of the Levanda world right now. Might there be one in the completed game?

Ooops, sorry GreyFuss... blush I see your post only now!! I suppose we were writing the message almost at the same time!
I'll try to answer all questions:

- Actually, the game IS wide screen; you only need to select AUTO from MENU/OPTION. Try and let me know
- We HOPE that Anamedia can be ready at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2017, if all goes well!
- Nope! No map, like Myst-style ... but you'll see that in 10 or 11 laps you'll feel right at home. lol Jokes aside, we have thaught it was more rewarding to do it by oneself!

Thanks for your feedback wave

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/10/16 11:21 PM

Hi Cookie

As far as the widescreen view, the setting was on Auto so I played around with the other settings and nothing changes. The size of the game is only in 4:3 ratio.

I know what you mean about making maps yourself as I love doing that and having to take lots of notes however because the field of vision is so limited when walking around its hard to orient oneself to where on the island we are at that time as no landmarks can be seen in the distance and such. My map is not lining up right to the direction and destination. I am not complaining, far from it, I am enjoying the play and will enjoy it more once I figure out what some of the things I come across mean.

Oh...rats...I thought the game was closer to being finished than what you say. At least I had hoped as much.

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/11/16 04:23 PM

You're absolutely right, it'not so easy to orient oneself on that willow tree.
I remember that I feel lost too when I saw this maze of path for the first time. crazy
But Simona ( Paupasia), the project creator and graphic designer, did something clever and logical putting hints along the track that can help you!
I'll put them in a spoiler ( and forgive me if you've already noticed them)
Click to reveal..
- the path lies on two concentric circles
- the color of the path lights is linked to that of the clocks

If you are still stuck I can provide both a map and other hints.

As for the screen issue..... there's something new in the air smile Simona will come to explain it soon!

Bye thanks

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/11/16 05:02 PM

Thanks Cookie but I wasn't in need of any hints here. I will get it eventually. Still can't get it to be full screen.

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/11/16 05:59 PM

Hi GreyFuss! I'm Simona, the "other" Similia. laugh
Currently the game is in 4:3 with support for widescreen. In 16:10 images are scaled perfectly, but in 16:9, to avoid distortion, the game engine adds pillarboxed. Visionaire Studio is an engine dedicated to 2D, does not have the camera, as in the 3D engines, to cut or add visual angles automatically.
Probably, indeed, certainly the final game will be widescreen considering the expansion of this format laugh

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/12/16 09:16 PM

Hi Cookie!

Sorry to disapoint you, but the game is NOT widescreen. The option you have is if you want to play it in fullscreen or not. And doesn't matter which option you choose, it's still not widescreen. I would like to comment more about the demo but I am already stuck in the first puzzle. I think logic is not my forte.

EDIT: FORGET ABOUT THIS POST. I DIDN'T SEE THERE WAS ANOTHER PAGE.

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/17/16 06:44 PM

I have tried to DL this demo twice and both times I get a message: This program can't start because MSVCR.110 is missing from your computer. Reinstall to correct. I reinstalled and same message. Is there a fix for this?
Posted By: Cookie

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/17/16 07:15 PM

Hey Jeepers!

You probably need Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2012 package to run the game.
You can easily download it for 32 bit (vcredist_x86) or 64 bit (vcredist_x64) HERE ( choose the version of your OS )

Let me know if it works ! wink
Posted By: Jeepers

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/17/16 08:52 PM

Thanks Cookie, I dl both 64 and 86 before game would work. I have 64 and after dl that file, game still wouldn't work, so went back to web and dl the 86 and now it comes up, so I will give it a go. Thanks
Posted By: Cookie

Re: Announcing Anamedia - A Myst-like Adventure - 01/17/16 09:33 PM

.dll missing error is very annoying !! smirk
I've changed my PC one month ago and I had the same problem.
If you haven't already done, check the DirectX9 and 11, update your Graphic Card Drivers, then Visual C++
- e.g. in my OS Win7x64, I have installed all the Microsoft Visual C++ Libraries from 2005 to 2015

I hope that you will find this useful!
