Viperante is proud to announce the launch of "A Diversity Game Project", a unique and important new game project, and is inviting you to be a part of it.

Background to the Game

If ever there was a time for unity, for solidarity, for us to come together as people, then that time is now. We live in a world of fear and uncertainty, in the middle of a culture war, battling over whose ideas are right, and whose are wrong, with all sides quick to judge, label, and attack those they disagree with. There are many issues that divide us. And in all the fighting, the real truth of a person is often overlooked, or never even considered at all. How well do we really know each other? Are those we disagree with really the terrible people we seem to always want them to be? Or do they simply have a different perspective, for a different reason? Could just taking the time to learn more about each other, create a better world for us all?

The Game

"A Diversity Game Project" will be a simple point and click adventure style game that aims to present a truly diverse set of people to the world, in a way that will force players to ask: "How much time am I really willing to devote to finding out about the lives and experiences of other people?" It won't have a story to uncover. Rather, YOUR stories will be the stories to uncover. Who are you? What do you do? Where are you from? What are the things that make you, you? Your answers to these questions will become the main component of the game, and seeking them out, the main challenge. This is a chance to immortalise a small piece of yourself forever, and a chance for everyone else, to find it. This will not be a game about politics. This will not be a game about taking sides. This will be a game about transcending those things. This will be a game about achieving a deeper understanding of others, and in doing so, achieving a deeper understanding of yourself.

I honestly don't see how you got that from what I said... personally I'm not convinced the idea will translate into a good game, but I have't written it off.

Hey, thanks Ana. Appreciate the support very much. grin thumbsup

CaptainD - we'll talk more about the actual game itself in the coming weeks, but I understand your concern. We like to think of it as an "interactive experience" more than simply a game. But it still is a game, available from all the usual game places, and so that's what we're promoting it as. Check out the website and fill in the questions. Be a part of it. thumbsup

Re: Announcing A Diversity Game Project - Tell the World your Story - 01/26/17 10:30 AM

Thanks Dan. I guess my concern is partly clouded by one or two other "games" I've seen in the past that really have no actual gameplay - not that these games have no merit in themselves anyway, they're just my cup of tea.

I'll do a post on my indie games blog about your game later... (indiegamenews.com = PM me if you don't see it in a couple of days as I might have got busy or just forgotten!).

All the best with your game! smile

Awesome. Thanks man. grin thumbsup

I know what you mean - these types of game are not everyone's cup of tea - I can appreciate that - it's new for us - a world away from our first game, which was a very puzzle and story heavy adventure. But, we always like to try new things, especially when we get inspired by something. smile

I've done one too, hope it's okay! (I know you'll say it is whatever the case. :D)

See now, if at the end of the day I'm not thrilled with your game, I'm partly to blame!

Just out of interest... is this game going to be voiced?

Thanks all. smile thumbsup

CaptainD - it won't be voiced no. How it will basically work, without giving away the whole thing just yet, is that you'll essentially be searching for these submissions. And they'll be presented in kind of a dossier/file/profile format. And the further you go - the more you play - the more you find, and the more different people you come across and find out about. It's all about the player, and how much time they're willing to invest in finding out about different people. So the more people who contribute, the bigger the pool. And hopefully we can see that people have all different kinds of experiences to us, and we should really try to get to know people before we just label them or dismiss them as one thing or another. smile

Nice. It sounds like an ambitious project, and voicing is probably a step too far - imagine you had hundreds of respondents and having get them all voiced!! :0
