Announcing The Frostrune - A Viking Point-and-Click Adventure Game Out Now - 02/03/17 04:26 PM

The classic point-and click-adventure game, The Frostrune, based on Viking myth and legend is out now on PC/Mac and mobile/tablet after four years in production!

Check out the trailer here.

Quote:
BERGEN, Norway, February 2, 2017—For four years the Norwegian game developers that make up Grimnir, have been working on creating a point-and-click adventure game set in Viking history and environment. The team is both inspired by classic point-and-click adventure games such as Myst and the history and lore of the Viking era. Through gorgeous handpainted art and masterful storytelling the team takes us on a journey of old Nordic myth and legend.

“It’s important to us to be as authentic to the era as possible,” said Executive Producer, Audun Refsahl. “The Vikings had such a love for good storytelling and they had such a rich world of myths and legends, how could we NOT make a point-and-click adventure game with all that rich content available?”

Grimnir met at a Viking reenactment camp, and through their enthusiasm for Viking history and stories, they started creating the point-and-click adventure game, The Frostrune. Through development, they have been passionate in creating a game that both Viking enthusiasts and adventure gamers would enjoy playing.

“We know that many Viking enthusiasts are more interested in playing a game on their phone or tablet, whilst the point-and-click adventure gamers enjoy playing games on their PC,” said Refsahl. “That’s why we wanted to launch on both mobile/tablet and PC/Mac—to make sure all that would enjoy the game the most would be able to access it.”

Giving Away a Real Viking Sword

The Grimnir team has a lot of impressive skills, and sword making is one of many. Grimnir and publisher, Snow Cannon Games, commissioned the renowned sword designer, Jake Powning, to design a sword worthy of The Frostrune. Lead designer, Nils Anderssen, has worked hard on making the sword with his unique craftsmanship.

“When we realized that Nils was so good at crafting swords museums happily bought his work, we knew that he had to bring the sword in The Frostrune to life,” says CEO of Snow Cannon Games, Espen Askvik. “It’s been such a privilege to work with such a unique, enthusiastic and passionate game studio. We have learned so much on this journey and we are very proud to be launching The Frostrune today.”

The game is available on the App Store and Google Play for $4.99 and the Mac App Store, Steam and Humble Store for $9.99 with more platforms to come soon.

The game was officially launched today at The Viking Ship Museum in Oslo,

Happy Gaming!

The reviews make no reference to that, Greyfuss. reviews on Steam.

Looks interesting, but I think I'll wait a bit and see what other Gameboomers have to say. From the reviews, several mention it's a short game. I wonder how short?

Thanks for that news, BrownEyedTigre smile

I quite fancy this game - but does anyone know if a purchase from Humble will still require it to be played via Steam ??

I'm not sure that it is my kind of game, but there is a really thorough review on one of my favourite sites Here

This game had caught my eye when I saw it on the "upcoming" list and I wishlisted it. Haven't bought it yet but I plan to. I'm wondering about the length of the game also. Those reviews only showed about 3 hours. That's pretty short.

I have played about 20 minutes or so and my original thoughts still remain...Casual Adventure Lite... I will play a little more but Casuals are not my cup of tea.

I watched a gameplay video here

It looks interesting, but I'm going to wait for Humble to release a DRM-free version.

This is a lovely game, I can't recommend it highly enough.. and yes I have actually played it !!!!! It took me 9 hours, probably longer than most but I don't mind, I (stop the press) enjoy playing adventure games; and for the life of me, I can never understand why anyone should want to tear thru a game as quick as possible with a walkthrough.
Lovely graphically, some easy some quite hard and quirky puzzles, nice effects, some truly haunting scenes and music; historically intriguing and accurate AND.. Vikings!
Whats more to like?

Hi Felled. Thanks for posting your opinion of the game. I've been debating about the game and now think it's one for me!

Agree with Felled-lovely little game. Lots of wandering around until you get your bearings, hints (if needed) at every stage. Clues for puzzles are all there, I went back to using the old pen and paper. I particularly liked the
Click to reveal..
changes from present to spirit world
It took me 3 hours in total, and that was at a slow pace. bravo

Three hours Upsydaisy, at a slow pace? Oh well, I suppose you have the ability to stay awake that long. I have a tendency to nod off now and again, which is no reflection on the game, but I seem to get zapped by my PC more often these days. By the way, after I finished the game I was surprised and delighted to discover I had only unlocked 15 of a possible 20 achievements. Which means I am going to have to play it again... I look forward to it.

I recently bought Frostrune for the iPad on the Apple App store (DRM free!). I think it was $5.99. I find it a soothing, lovely game with an interesting interface and an absorbing array of puzzles. It did take me an hour or so to understand the layout of the land, but now I'm happily entertained wandering around in Viking-land.

It is on Humble Mad, See here. Humble does not mean DRM free though, it's just a portal for various outlets. It is still a steam key.
