Well to be honest it was only a matter of time, I wonder if the developers will ever recoup their costs or if there will ever be a Syberia 4.

Oh good venus. I saw in the Diner that you have a pretty busy schedule this week so didn't know if you'd see the sale.

I have been waiting for this game for a long time ! BUT does anyone know if it will be available directly - NOT through Steam ??

Has Steam monopolized the Adventure Game venue?
Posted By: BrownEyedTigre

Re: Syberia 3 on sale - 09/07/17 05:11 PM

Currently it is only available through Steam. Steam has not monopolized the adventure game venue, it is where developers choose to go because they make the most there and get paid timely. Not to mention the fact that many smaller portals do not accept many adventures because they have a smaller draw.

Please do not turn this thread into an anti-steam thread. We have plenty of these discussions and they are exhausting.

As long as they continue to make money on it through Steam, they have no reason to sell through other venues. I don't expect it to be released anywhere other than Steam any time soon -- maybe in a few years.

If you want to know the Syberia 3 story, check out a YouTube playthrough.

Be aware that Syberia 3 ends on a cliffhanger, worse than either of the previous Syberia games. So if that bothers you, you might want to wait anyway.

As far as I know, they're still using Denuvo DRM on it, which would make it inappropriate for any DRM-free download store. Google Denuvo to see why people hate it.

Re: Syberia 3 on sale - 09/08/17 07:26 PM

Hi Jenny - yep I am familiar with Denuvo - I didn't mean for this to be a STEAM BASH :>) But using STEAM on any of my PCs is a non-starter. So - I wait then !

Thanks for the info....

What is the mouse interface? Is it like point and click?

It's point and click now, yes. thumbsup It seems to be the default. It's not always easy to maneuver Kate around, but I'm sure it's a lot easier than it was before the controls were updated.

Thanks so much for posting the "special" for Syberia 3, downloaded it the other day but have only really played it for a very short time. Quite enjoying it so far and to me anyway, the mouse controls appear to be fine - thank goodness! So, I do hope others are enjoying it as well! smile

The publisher said there's going to be a DRM-free version but don't know when yet.

Thanks, fireflower. Microids/Anuman is very slow if at all to do that, so I'd be amazed if it was within a year or so.

Just wondering, was this game planned out as just a trilogy? Or will they make more? wavegirl

Re: Syberia 3 on sale - 09/12/17 09:53 PM

It ended as a cliffhanger so I would think it's open to another game.

Thanks Ana. I hope so. wavegirl

Re: Syberia 3 on sale - 09/13/17 09:52 AM

Bought it from sale, played through and liked it.

Some puzzles made me scratch my head for a while but I managed it through in 27 hours without any look at walkthrough and all hints and helps off.

Tried both keyboard with mouse and gamepad which I preferred. One 'complaint' with controls though. Kate was often a little 'disoriented' after moving from a place to another during cutscene. You had to be careful not to turn back right after.

Syberia 3 was something from totally different planet after The Evil Within with all DLC's which was my previous playthrough. I'm lucky to be quite omnivorous.

Have to think carefully what to play next...

Re: Syberia 3 on sale - 09/14/17 03:33 AM

Glad you enjoyed it TJL. I don't find it nearly as bad as many say it is, but then I don't think it's nearly as good as the originals, either. Thorsgoats likes it quite a bit. I really hope that they do well enough to make a sequel, as we need to know what happens after that ending.

Re: Syberia 3 on sale - 09/15/17 10:44 AM

venus, you are so right! We all want to know how the story continues and what happens to Kate an Oscar?

I too liked the previous games in the series more but the latest was good and interesting enough to wait for more to come.

I hope it won't take as long as it took between second and third!

Happy weekend and gaming!

Re: Syberia 3 on sale - 09/21/17 06:34 PM

Unfortunately, the poor reviews have scared me away and I didn't buy it on the recent sale. The poor controls, bugs, and lackluster story and characters are all fairly alarming. Come to think of it, I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the first 2 games either, which I did play. But I was still looking forward to the new game because of the more advanced technology and change in gameplay style. Industry people call this kind of thing a "reboot." You reboot an old franchise to attract modern players while also catering to the old fans. They could've made this using old-fashioned 2D flat graphics just like the first 2 games if they had wanted only to attract old fans. But they rebooted it, fundamentally changing the style of gameplay and design, and couldn't quite pull it off.

Usually a "reboot" means they start the story all over again -- a retelling, or sometimes a completely different story, as if the earlier stories never existed.

Syberia 3 does not do that. It continues pretty much where Syberia 2 left off, explaining how Kate was rescued by the Youkols after being marooned in Syberia at the end of Syberia 2.
