Fan Remake of “Mansion of Hidden Souls” from the Sega CD era

Hi all!

I was referred to this sight by a very helpful admin from another site. My team and I are considering doing a small mini development as practice for our own future development project.

Some of us are huge adventure fans and considered doing a RealTime 3D version of “Mansion of Hidden Souls” from the Sega CD era. It’s a small game and would really suit our purposes for practice.

However we’d really like to pick a potential remake project other people would be interested in playing after we’re done.

So basically my question is, “Is anyone interested?”

Summary:

Hidden Souls is an FMV adventure game that features a wonderfully orchestrated sound track by Yuji Nomi. This Sega sleeper characterizes mysterious butterflies secluded in a Mansion in the middle of nowhere; who guide your character Jonathan through its surreal interiors to save your sister from her (and your own) doomed fate of becoming hidden for eternity.

to GameBoomers jesblood! What a great idea for a game! Are you going to be using pixel art like the original or will it be higher res?

Actually Ana it’s going to be high res. We’re using Unity 2018 to make the game. We’ve already been doing some tests by constructing a greybox level version of the Foyer room with the staircase. So far it looks quite incredible. What we intend to do is not only reconstruct it faithfully as best we can but also update it as far as interactivity.

We will be posting a video walkthrough of the environment soon.

Yes, jesblood has posted at Mystery Manor and AG and I suggested he might find more responses here at Gameboomers. I think it's a very worthy project! I'm also VERY glad the game will be high res.

We really appreciate the support! So far we’ve been gaining a lot of understanding from working on this small sample. Hopefully we’ll get enough interest to take this to the end.

I saw that you reduced the examples to external links.Totally understandable. Is it permitted for us to post screen captures of each link just so others have a visual idea of what they’re going to see when they click the link? If so we’d like to add those for visual reference.

Thanks for asking, and as you can see by my own announcement threads we greatly limit the screens. We are a self funded website and try and keep the costs of bandwidth down. If you can get the screens to 20k or 30k max and it's just the two I'll let them stay. Rest assured though. the members know to click the links here!

Draclvr what you’re seeing now is just the beginning. What you’re seeing is just a basic recreation of the original shapes from the FMV. However we intend to research the old Victorian Gothic Style architecture and update the basic design with much greater detail. This is gonna be fun!

The Remake looks awesome. and the staircase reminds me of
"The 7th Guest". Will this be developed for PC as well?

@Draclvr yes! Hopefully it’ll keep growing.

@sanford Yes this will be a PC development. Since we don’t own the IP it will be a free download on our website when we are finished. (If doable we should be able to port it out to Mac as well but we’ll see)
