My Hero :-D - 07/22/18 05:41 PM

Even after all these years and all the zillion games I've played, Gabriel Knight is, for me, still the best Adventure Hero that there has ever been !! dance

Who else is there ?? wink

I am inclined to agree with you, Mad. yes

Are you replaying one of the Gabriel Knight games right now, by any chance?

Re: My Hero :-D - 07/22/18 08:50 PM

Unfortunately not, Marian.
Although every time I come to install a game I AM very tempted to install a GK one !! laugh

Unfortunately I don't cope well with heat and we've been going through heat wave weather here in the UK for weeks on end now. Consequently I've been rather unwell and not spent a great deal of time computerin'.
[ And my re-play of Blade Runner has ground to a horrible halt thumbsdown ]

I've mainly just been dabbling in Match 3's and Casuals on my Win7 machine and giving my iPad games a good work out wink
Actually found a nicely "educating" iPad one called "Backpacker" and have become quite addicted to it - for testing my general knowledge.
["Testing my general knowledge" BTW is French for "Finding out just how much I DON'T actually know" !! lol ]

Anyway, I'm sure there are plenty of folk who will have different heroes to Gabriel Knight - so maybe they'll pop in and mention them ??

We've been having terrible heat too, and it makes it hard to think clearly.

Anyone else have any adventure game heroes? smile

I don't like heat either.
Fortunately I have air conditioning to escape to.

What happened? Stuckness or technical problems?

I'm not sure about "heroes" but here are some player characters I enjoyed:

Manny Calavera
Sylvie Leroux (Chronicles of Mystery)
Constable Zellner (The Raven)
Gus McPherson (Post Mortem and Still Life)
As-Sayf/Tancred de NĂ©rac (Legend of the Prophet/Secrets of Alamut)
Nefermaat/Tifet (Egypt 2: The Heliopolis Prophecy)
Maya (Egypt 3: The Egyptian Prophecy)
the unnamed creature in Oknytt
Mina (Return to Mysterious Island)
Bobbin Threadbare (Loom)
Guybrush Threepwood
Bradwen (Arthur's Knights 1 and 2)
Sherlock Holmes
Watson (Sherlock Testament)
Poirot (Agatha Christie Evil Under the Sun)
Indiana Jones
Nancy Drew (Lani Minella)
Lara Croft (1996 version, not current version)
April Ryan (in The Longest Journey, not the Dreamfall games)
King Graham (KQ 1,2,5)
and of course Gabriel Knight has already been mentioned.

I don't know if Sherlock or Poirot would have been as memorable without having read the books, or Indiana Jones as memorable without the movies.

Then there are some memorable characters you don't play as, such as Mephisto in Faust, Atrus in the Myst series, Catherine in Riven, Saavedro in Myst III, Wolfgang Ritter in GK1, etc.

Tex Murphy! Chris Jones' acting is terrible (but likable) in the first FMV game (Under a Killing Moon), but gets much better is the following games.

Air conditioning is not the norm for my area of the UK, Jenny100, because such extreme heat is pretty rare, but I do have one unit upstairs and it is a great help thumbsup
(Sadly, my Blade Runner temporary halt is purely down to health issues.)

I felt the Gabriel Knight character was a "traditional style" hero. It was "in his genes" to become one and he certainly achieved that, one hundred percent !!

And I agree that some on your list are also "heroic" characters - although maybe not in the same way smile

Edit :
Ahhhhhh ...... Tex Murphy !! Another true hero. Yes !! dance

Gabriel is certainly an icon Mad
Twinsun is one my heroes as he was the character that introduced me to adventure games in a strange way.
And Klaymen (or is it Klayman??)
Get well!

I would certainly include Wilbur Weathervane. How could anybody not love him?

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, Mad.
I hope your weather lets up and you feel better soon.

I'd forgotten about Tex Murphy -- another one of my favorite adventure game characters.
