Does new computer mean starting over?

I've got a new computer coming. To get my current Big Fish games on it do I have to redownload them? And does that mean I'll be starting over from the beginning?

You will need to redownload them all if that is what you want to do. Just go to "my account" and then select "purchase history".

Thanks for that confirmation, BrownEyedTigre. I was presuming that's what I'd have to do with the "unplayed" BigFish games I already have installed, as my only internet contact will be from my new machine thumbsup

[I'm not sure how I'll go on with the "non" BigFish games I have that were only available as "downloads woozy]

Hi Mad,

If you go to program files and find your non BF game folder, you should just be able to send that folder to a flash drive, or copy and paste. Then when you have your new comp. just reverse the process.

Most companies will let you downlaod again if you bought the game.

I've already gone through that. If my non-Big Fish games can be redownloaded from where I got them I did nothing. If they can't, I copied the set up program to an external hard drive (along with all my documents, photos and music).

I know I can redownload from Big Fish. But will I have to start over? Guess it doesn't matter, I haven't played the games in so long because of Guild Wars 2 starting over might be a good idea.

My new computer should be here before all those games I supported on Kickstarter come out for downloading.

Oh, time to go get my weekly slice of cheeseburger pizza.

Guybrush, I think I misunderstood your original question. You mean will you have to start the games over? Unless it was cloud gaming, your saves are stored on your computer. You will have to start over unless you transfer over the folders with the saves in them.

Thanks, Flo NS and BrownEyedTigre happydance

So, all the files for a game (saves included) that I downloaded onto my XP machine will work if transferred intact to a Win7 machine ....

Could I do the transfer via "networking" then ?? [Or is that a really stupid question ?? redface]

You need to transfer the whole folder. Different developers have them in separate areas so you would have to locate them. These are the saved game folders and not the exe folder.

But thanks very much, anyway, BrownEyedTigre smile

Guybrush and Mad, I'm not sure that transferring them will work in all cases. One of things that installation does is create registry entries necessary to run the game. Whether that is true for all BF games, I don't know. I do know that most full adventure games are like that.

I have done the copy and transfer back thing and it does work for some of them.

Since you are moving from XP to the Windows 7 platform, I would advise redownloading your BF games library just to be sure. The nice thing about BF is that your games are always there waiting for you.

Here's a possible solution: Why don't you keep your XP, buy a keyboard/mouse switch and leave your games where they are? You can then switch between computers to play whichever game you choose....ones you already have downloaded or new games downloaded to your new computer. I actually have both XP and Win7 machines hooked up, as well as a Win 98 as a standby. I can play any one of my hundreds of games whenever I want.

FYI, I was not referring to transferring the game itself, only the saved game folders which are self contained.

Draclvr :
Yes. I expect I will just delete the unplayed BigFish games I have on my XP machine and redownload them to my Win7 machine when it's ready.
It's a question of the "non" BigFish downloaded Casuals (and couple of Adventures) I have that (like BigFish) require an internet connection to play.
I suppose I'll just have to contact the individual companies to find out my position regarding those.

Cappy :
I obviously have the same type of arrangement as you - network links and KVM links for my current Win98 and WinXP machines.
And my Win7 machine will join them.
But I only intend to have internet contact for the Win7 machine. So I'll need to sort out any games currently downloaded to my XP that require internet activation to play etc..

BrownEyedTigre :
After reading this thread through again earlier today, I realised you were referring to Saved Game transfer.
But at times, I'm just a dab hand at asking silly questions. Sorry !!!! rolleyes
