Big Fish Sales - 10/07/15 08:37 PM

They're killing me with these 65% off sales every month. I get a lot of games but it sure does add up when I start looking at how much I'm spending! shocked

I know the syndrome well. When I used to buy games there, they would only take a day to play, and then the next weekend, I'd get sucked in by another sale. Then I'd get my VISA bill at the end of the month. LOL

Re: Big Fish Sales - 10/10/15 12:08 PM

I don't have enough spare time to finish a game in a day - so that aspect doesn't bother me ....

But in any case, like Reenie, it's everyone to their own taste as to what they want to fritter their cash on !! lol

Re: Big Fish Sales - 10/10/15 05:27 PM

Just to be clear, I am certainly not complaining about the sales. It's my lack of control and amazement at how it all adds up so quickly. I feel good after my purchase that I bought so many games for a fair amount of money but when I look at my expenditures spreadsheet YIKES! eek

When certain people post here about a good game or series I type it into my "to be bought" spreadsheet and the list never seems to go down. lol

Re: Big Fish Sales - 10/10/15 05:52 PM

Me, too. I keep an alphabetized spreadsheet, to keep me from repurchasing a game I already played (or played the Trial and rejected). LOL There are over 200 games on that list. How else can you keep them all straight over the years? Currently, there are 12 on the list that I have not yet tried, but have the description, "Recommended by 'Boomers." smile

The other benefit to maintaining a list is being able to use it as a Search tool. I don't follow BF closely, so when I want to buy a game, I'll look at my List and then search for any more games in a Series that I rated highly.

Wow !! How methodical !! praise

Definitely puts my own bumbling way of choosing and buying games to shame lol

ha ha Once you have bought a couple of games that you had already played, you learn, Mad. lol

Re: Big Fish Sales - 10/11/15 12:49 PM

I've only ever done that once, Reenie, to the best of my knowledge, and it was a long time ago wink

These days it would only be likely to happen (for me) with a Casual. They are so "same-ish". But even there some sites help by reminding you that already own a game you might be preparing to buy thumbsup

So .... whilst I certainly couldn't list, off the top of my head, all the titles in my game collection, I'm fairly certain I do know what's in it snicker

I just pull up my BFG purchase history. For games I'm considering, I look at the Game Manager since I always download a demo for new games In which I'm interested. I always uninstall games once I've completed them so that my Game Manager doesn't get overloaded.

Re: Big Fish Sales - 10/11/15 03:33 PM

If you put a game in your shopping cart that you had previously purchased from Big Fish, you get a message telling you precisely that. The only exception here is that a Collector's Edition of a particular title and its Standard Edition are seen as two different games; in this case, you will be allowed to purchase the standard edition of a game when you already have the Collector's Edition (or vice versa), so you need to be careful in this regard.

Otherwise, I do appreciate that the system "remembers" your purchases.

Thanks for reminding us about that point, Marian thumbsup

Re: Big Fish Sales - 10/11/15 05:28 PM

Yes, I've had that reminder happen, Marian, when buying at BF. Very helpful! When I have ended up duplicating a purchase it was because the two purchases were not both at BF. Many casual games are for sale on racks when you check out of places like Office Max or Best Buy, and I have made half a dozen purchases that way. wink

Ah, I see.

I was forgetting about brick-and-mortar stores. The closest Best Buy and Office Max for me is 45 miles away, so I am spared that particular pitfall. lol

I have a listing of all the games I own as well as the games I want to own. I find it very helpful!

Yes, when a sale comes along, you can cherry pick what you want in a small amount of time. Each game on my "Want" list is one I played the Trial Game on and decided I like it. I also keep on the list (crossed out) the games I tried and found wanting, so I don't make the mistake of buying them.
