Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/21/12 09:30 AM

I was thinking Shadowlands when I saw the list on a web sight. The game is still downloading as I post this. I picked a bad time to try it, the Thanksgiving weekend. I get Thursday off work, thats it. Nobody gets Black Friday off. No point in even asking they'll deny it.

Edit: still downloading. When I got up it was actually stalled. I had to pause it and unpause it to get it going again. I have 2 1/2 hours before I have to leave for work, I don't think it will be done downloading.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/22/12 06:31 PM

I've got a Soundral and a Sith Inquisitor. Apparently though bad guy isn't my thing. Twice I made decisions that gave my sith light points. So I'm thinking of deleting him and starting over as Jedi Consular.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/22/12 07:29 PM

There's a swtich in the settings, that let you see, if you choose white or dark before answering.
BUT, what's so wrong in being a good bad guy? lol laugh

Remember though, that the TORWars Guild is Empire only.

I tend to go for Bounty Hunters, probably because I'm lousy at melee razz

But you didn't say how you feel about the game... so tell us.

BTW.
If you check torwars.enjin.com, there's a guild gathering Event in about 1½ day - there's a counter on the website.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/22/12 10:52 PM

I'm still thinking about it, I may delete the sith and go bounty hunter, I seem to die a lot on melee. Although I played the SI more I think I like the Smuggler l play style better so bounty hunter would probably be good.

I don't like being limited to only two characters, I'm an altatholic, got 10 in Guild Wars 2 now. Kind of disappointed I can only choose between three of the species for free, but they have to make money somehow. I hate to think how much I've already spent on GW2 cash store in only a couple months.

I miss Guild Wars 2's Way Points, places all over the maps that you can instantly travel to for a small fee and they don't go on a timer when used.

Armor damaged when getting killed is similar to Guild Wars 2 except each death there only damages one armor piece and when all your armor is damaged you end up in your underwear until you repair it. Its also easier to heal yourself in combat in GW2, Don't have to bring up inventory and click on medical kits, your healing skill works in combat, although it may be interrupted,.

I was hoping that at some point I'd get to kill the sith overseer but somebody in chat said don't get to frown and that actually his bad treatment of my character is actually a good thing since it feels him with resent

One of the sith quests was bugged. The marker would point to inside the tomb but as soon as I walked into the tomb it would point right back out again. Somebody tried to help me but couldn't remember where I needed to be either. Eventually found it by accident.

Otherwise I having fun with it. I think I'm going to erase both characters, right make the smuggler with different name and appearance and make a bounty hunter instead of sith. I didn't get far of either.

Bounty Hunter's name is Josra. Who do I ask about joining guild?

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/23/12 08:01 AM

You just type in General chat:

/cjoin sunshine

Then someone should send you an invite.. that easy laugh

I think you'll like the Bounty Hunter - and Mako your first companion is just yummy, lol
You get her around lvl 8 I think....

You can unlock stuff in the Cartel Shop if you have cartel coins.
Buy one thing and you'll automatically get Preferred status, which in itself unlocks a few more things for you.
(at least, that's how I understand it)

Well, did you check the torwars.enjin.com and try writing in the shoutbox on the right - then someone might see it and add you.

OR you could wait for the Guild Event tomorrow early morning.

I'll be on tonight in about 8-9 hours, so I could add you.

You keeping the BH Josra?

Yes I'm keeping Josra.

Have to go to work, bu I logged in to check on something and found I had mail I had missed. I got 22 credits from the sith academy for sending them a new student. I murdered his father so he's naturally full of negative emotions which his overseer thanked me for.

I whispered you but you didn't respond or add me to guild.

It wont let me whisper Asros until I get to level 10 because I'm free to play.

I was trying to look up if there was a way to unlock things without a subscription. In the cartel stuff like species unlocks says it requires legacy whatever that is.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/25/12 10:50 AM

Got to level 10. Got first companion. Unfortunately free to play is not letting me get all rewards. Most of the missions to get my bounty hunter into the great hunt gave me no items.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/25/12 11:27 AM

As far as I understand it, if you buy just 1 thing from the Cartel Shop your status will change to Preferred Player, which will loosen up some of the restrictions.

But let me double check it smile

This is what it says about it:

Quote:
How do I become a Preferred Status Player?

Preferred Status is a great way to unlock additional game features.

Upgrade to Preferred Status by purchasing anything from our store (www.swtor.com/buy).

A player who has purchased the game or is a Former Subscriber is automatically granted Preferred Status. The purchase of a Cartel Coin Card at participating retailers will also upgrade a Free-to-Play player to Preferred Status.

Players with Preferred Status accounts will receive the following benefits:

Can send in-game mail, including 1 (one) attachment.
Can trade securely with other players from Level ten (10) onwards
Can use the /who list and display their Legacy name
First Cargo Hold bay available for free (an 80 item Player Bank)
Sprint available from Level 1
Lower Repair costs
Lower Respecialization (Respec) costs
Five (5) simultaneous listings on the Galactic Trade Network (GTN)
Raised currency limits (Credits and Commendations)
Increased allowance for chat message frequencies in Public Chat channels
One (1) additional active Crew Skill Slot (for a total of 2)
Increased server queue priority

First I was "Josra, Hired Gu"n. Now "I'm Josra The Heartless" for blowing up a spaceship. Unlocked Legacy. Now I need a family name I guess. I think most of what legacy gets you either needs subscription or buying individual unlocks.

Guybrush, do you get to choose your family name?
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/26/12 08:41 PM

Yes, but I haven't done it yet. Don't know what its going to be.

I made up Josra from the name of old TV series character, Josh Randall, played by Steve McQueen in "Wanted: Dead or Alive". First three letters from the character's first name, last two from character's last name. My character isn't anything like the TV character who actually preferred not to kill if he could avoid it. He would if he could take wanted men in alive. My character prefers them dead, its easier. Apparently though he's actually dragging a woman's dead body around with him as he killed her on Hutta and has take to her to the Sith capital planet to get the bounty. That confused at first, I couldn't find where to finish the quest.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/29/12 12:54 AM

I made a jedi consular but don't know if I'll keep him. Melee is easier for me in Guild Wars 2. May switch back to smuggler.

I'm apparently a sucker for cash stores. I spent enough on cartel coins that I could have subscribed for a couple months. I purposly never added up what I spent on Guild Wars 1 and now Guild Wars 2's cash shops.

Legacy name is Panthera, from the cat family which includes lion, tiger, jaguar and leopard.

Right now I have the jedi consular in the family tree under rival, not a blood relative since the BH is a cyborg (ie human with electronic implants, and a bad scar, on his face which looks like a big cad mauled him) and the JC is Mirialan (green skinned humanoid with tatoos on his face).

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 11/29/12 09:53 AM

They way groups works takes some getting used to. In GW2 everybody gets there own drops. IN SWTOR if you're in a group some seem to be who ever picks them up first and others its a "role of dice" as to who gets it. If I don't need it I'm usually nice and pass on it.

My BH's companion gets upset when I do bad things or talk mean so I usually send her off to scavenge before I talk to NPCs. If the character I think it is is my JC"s first companion I think he will be the opposite, annoyed when I don't kill people.

If I'm doing the a mission in SWTOR which involves killing certain foes, or activating a machine or taking objects off of dead bodies and someone else beats me to to it I have to wait for the spawn to regenerate.

Smuggler's name is Rojavon. Roj from Roj Blake and avon from Kerr Avon, the two lead characters in the British science fiction series "Blakes 7".

Guess I need to find a Republic guild.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 12/03/12 05:49 PM

The jedi and sith should both die off so should be none around for the films. Why?

Jedi believe passion is evil. One of the missions is to break up a romance. So no jedi children.

Sith don't trust each other enough to disrobe. So no sith children.

BTW one of my coworkers is not a Star Wars fan. He says were supposed to think the jedi are the good guys but actually they're terrorists who committed genocide against the sith.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 12/04/12 09:23 PM

Josra isn't looking well. Doing bad thing is effecting his body as well as his soul. Course I had to pay to unlock ability to hide helmet to notice what it was doing to his face.

Something odd I noticed. Free-to-play and Preferred players only get two character slots but the price to unlock stuff on "all characters" is more than twice the cost of unlocking for one. This doesn't make sense since subscribers, who get 12 characters, don't need the unlocks. For example, it would have cost me an extra 75 coins to unlock head piece hiding on both characters. So if I want an unlock on both characters, I just buy it on both.

Got my anniversary fireworks. Haven't shot any off yet. Don't think I'll buy any Lifeday stuff.

I should have made Rojavon a sith warrior. The sith warrior overseer at the start of the game is voiced by Paul Darrow who played Kerr Avon Blakes 7. I took Roj from Roj Blake and Avon from Kerr Avon.
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 12/15/12 08:02 AM

I signed up for a 60 day/none renewing subscirption so I could try more than 2 classes.

Heroes of the Republic
Rojavon (smuggler/gungslinger) - from Blakes 7's Roj Blake and Kerr Avon
Dreanan (trooper/vanguard) - Welsh for thorn
Nashebo (Jedi Warrior/?) - from an American indian character from an episode of Kung Fu

Fiends of the Empire
Josra (bounty hunter/mercenary) - from Josh Randall character in "Wanted: Dead or Alive" TV series
Arachnathena - (imperial agent/?) - from Arachnid and Athena
Xoanan - (sith inquestor/?) - from an episode of Doctor Who (original series)

I didn't know when I created Rojavon that the late Paul Darrow (Kerr Avon) actually voiced a sith warrior overseer in the game. I played a sith warrior just to see his story line then deleted her. After she
Click to reveal..
killed the NPC
I lost interest.

I didn't think I'd like trooper but its becoming my favorite. Imperial agent has interesting story but plays too much like smuggler, some of the same skills even.

I'm not sure what will happen when subscription expires. Some people in game think I'll get to keep six character, because that happened to previous subscribers who went free to play. Which is why I'm stopping at 6 characters, instead of 12. I hope it does drop to 6 and not 2. If it drops back to 2 I hope its not random but asks me which ones.

Now of course I'm wishing I had bought account wide speeder unlock instead of character. I'm not buying account wide until after the subscription runs out because I already have it unlocked on 2 characters and buying it to unlock other 4 I may not get to keep would be a waste.
Posted By: misslilo

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 12/15/12 09:12 AM

Speeder unlock is ALWAYS only for one character - the tooltip for accountwide is wrong

And wise decision to go for a sub - I do believe you get to keep your 6 characters laugh
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 12/23/12 05:54 PM

This is different, my jedi warrior got his second companion before his ship. My other characters didn't get second companion until they got their ship and the droid that comes with it. Jedi got a different droid first and a female padawan second. Ship's droid presumably be third companion.

My first two characters are twice the level of the jedi and they still only have their original companions plus the ship's droid.

Anything happen if a jedi tries to romance NPC?
Update: somebody in game says that results in Dark Side points, so won't be doing that.

I wondered if the artists did anything with alien anatomy other than skin color, horns or tales on heads, so I took my characters armor off. The purebred sith look like part of his ribcage is exposed otherwise all the species look like humans who dyed their skin.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 01/09/13 10:53 PM

Latest update made it 2 characters per server for Free-to-play (previously it was 2 characters period), 6 per server for preferred players and subscribers get 12 per server. When my 60 day non-renewing subscription runs out I'll get to keep all 9 of my characters but not make any more new ones.

They are also selling extra character slots now. I'm not sure how that will work with free to play, because normally any purchase makes you preferred.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 01/30/13 02:34 AM

From playing this game I've concluded that Emperor Palpatine is a sith inquisitor and Darth Vader a sith warrior. Neither of course was a true sith as the sith race is apparently extinct by their time.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 01/30/13 04:19 AM

Yes, at one point Sith became more of a position than a race. wave

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 01/30/13 08:50 AM

Yeah, even in the game most of the sith are human rather than pure bread sith. Somewhere between the game and the films the sith race disappears. Course so do most of the other sith. What I think is odd is that in the books set after the films the term sith falls out of use, dark side force users called dark jedi instead.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 02/19/13 06:06 PM

Josra the bounty hunter/mercenary has completed chapter 1. And with the help of a guild member has hatched an Orokeet mini pet, which is a lot easier than hatching a Moa Chick in Guild Wars 1, but still multiple step process. Josra just reached level 37.

Subscribers gain experience faster, can carry more money and planet commendations. For awhile Josra was over his credit limit. Had to spend some. Also subscribers can send companion to craft 5 items, 1 after the other. Non-subscribers have to do it one at a time, ie wait until companion finishes and send again.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 03/13/13 01:19 AM

Yes, by changing to Pay Pal. After making the switch I think I figured out the problem with credit card. I don't think the web site originally asked for the 3 digit code on the back of the card then when they updated the system to require it they forgot to prompt people to add it, so credit card orders just failed.

I'm sure its just a coincidence but SWTOR and GW2, two different publishers, both added new items to their cash stores.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 03/16/13 06:19 AM

Josra has completed Bounty Hunter Chapter 1: The Great Hunt and Chapter 2: The Price of Fame. He's now the Republic's "Most Wanted" although the charges are false (well some of them). Apparently a high ranking jedi needs something to bolster his falling popularity rating and going after a bounty hunter who's been doing the empire's dirty work makes good copy. Josra would point out that the cowardly jedi stayed safe on the capital world while sending out others to die when they twice tried to murder him. Both times he encountered the jedi's minions they were the aggressors. So much for jedi morals and ethics.

So far Josra has not succeed in convincing Mako to mix pleasure with business. Even though I have her affection for him maxed out, she doesn't respond to well to flirting. First companion to have maximum affection for one of my characters.

Rojavon has completed Smuggler Chapter 1: The Fatal Fortune, but hasn't really started chapter 2 yet as he ended up back on Nar Shaddaa (I've joked several times that its the Hotel Nar Shaddaa, you can check out but never really leave, as you're always drawn back). He's now got a partner who's theoretically a queen. Not sure how the flirting is going yet.

Arachnathena has completed Chapter 1: Heart of Terror and has theoretically become The Hand, though no such actual title is available and I suspect she'll turn on the sith who calls her that. He's not the emperor just thinks he should be. Just got her first male companion and he's a little strange, okay a lot strange. He's linked to the hive mind of a race of intelligent insects and tends to speak of himself as "we" instead of "I" and not the royal one. Chapter 2 has imperial agent go under cover as a double agent pretending to defect to the republic but as soon as you meet the man you're supposed to destroy
Click to reveal..
you fall under mind control so sometimes you cant actually say or do what you want to, a different response comes out. Its funny. You want to kill him but can't.
. The title you get for completing chapter 1 is "Double Agent".

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 03/25/13 01:28 AM

Josra is marred to his companion Mako. The writting is pretty bad. She alaways responds to flirting with not wanting to mix business with pleasure. Then suddenly last night when Josra said he'd have to fire her then, and kissed her she suddenly announces she loves him and accepts his proposal to form a permanent contract with her. Seems being dark side doesn't stop a romance with companions as long as you can get the affection up anyway, and be hi enough level. Josra is 49.

I just got a wedding present emailed from Mako. Funny thing is its technology companion give, which just happens to be her favorite. Blizz would like it to so I'll give it to him.

Josra is level 50, which is max level until later this year.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 03/29/13 09:00 PM

Seems odd to me but I find people playing the "evil" sith empire are friendlier than people playing the "good" republic. I guess its like actors who play villains a lot are usually nice guys in reality, where the hero actors can some times be real jerks.

On the other hand, Sobrik, an imperial outpost on the imperial planet of Balmorrra, is a lot more fun when you're a republic infiltrator sneaking around it.

Are some down sides to double xp week end. On the one hand you can end up higher than the quests on a planet and get little experience from them. On Hoth Rojavon is at a spot where he's too high for the normal planet quests but too low for the bonus series of quests. On the other hand, if you finish your class missions and head out to next planet you may find yourself under armored/armed.

Rojavon completed chapter two and married Risha. Last conversation she was already talking about children. In the Legacy screen I have my second smuggler listed as Rojavon's daughter. Same with Josra and second bounty hunter. The Risha story is more romantic than the Mako one.
Click to reveal..
Risha turns down the proposal of a count to marry your character.

Found a flaw in the game. His other female companion wanted to talk and she wants to flirt, there's no "I'm married" option. You can turn her down immediately without explaining why and she'll go down 3 points or flirt going up 52 points then insult her for -3. Somebody can't do math because you end up +50 that way. The more affection a companion has the faster they are at crafting and the more of their back story you get.

Draenen completed chapter 1.

Josra and Rojavon are both level 50, which until the update is max level. Soe even though they have not finished chapter 3, there is little point continuing to play them as any xp earned would be wasted(?) After the expansion max level is being raised to 55 so quest xp would be useful again.

Josra has reached Dark Side Tier 5, gaining the title "Loathsome". Automatically unlocked a skill which, for all my characters, which nearly kills companion to heal the character that used it. Five is the current maximum, but I noticed a vendor had items withh a requirement of 5 or higher, which leads me to suspect the update will raise Dark Side and Light Side levels too.

The servers, including web site, are shutting down soon for the update. Going to take all night.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 04/09/13 06:38 PM

Thanks.

For ordering the Rise of the Hutt Cartel you get 5 Basic Commendations in email. Takes over 100 of those to get anything.

For pre-ordering early each of your characters gets a new pet, a new title "Scourge of the Hutts" and a device that lets you train anywhere without having to go back to the town where trainers are or go to fleet.

There are a bunch of new achievements (most of which Guild Wars 2 already had), however they don't display correctly until you've logged into all your characters, since all your characters affect them. Most of these achievements will require you to fight foes you would normally avoid, like all the harmless beasties that show yellow meaning they won't attack you if you don't attack them or the higher level foes you thought it would be good to avoid.

Helped A LOT to do it right now, when there's tons of people around to kill all those mobs and goons LOL laugh

But, they are not that scary if you can keep the agro around 2-3 goons/beasts.

Often you'll see 2 lvl 51's at around 16K-17K.

My lightside sith warrior, Silvary while in the desert world of Tatooine had a vision in which her own reflection tried to turn her to the darkside. It claimed the other sith would be against her when the sensed the light in her and that the darkside was stronger. She defeated her reflection in combat, proving it wrong. Apparently, if you agree with what the reflection says you don't have to fight it.

Its fun having a lightside sith and a darkside jedi (consular). Does make the jedi counsel look rather dim as they never figure out you're bad.

Silvary, sith warrior, has completed chapter 1 and like my sith inquisitor has gained a jedi padawan as her apprentice. Her's followers her willingly though realizing Silvary is lightside. Another web site claims it will cost 600 cartel coins to unlock cathar.

Draenen, the trooper just reached Light Side 5, which is max level. granting the title "The Pure". Unfortunantl;y he's only level 39, when he reaches level 50 "Unity" will be unlocked, which reduces damage taken by character and companions. If you remeber, the darkside skill 'Sacrifice" wounded your companion to heal you.

Draenen has completed chapter 2, and been promoted to Major. The general said the other members of Havoc Squad (his companions) would be promoted too. So, far I know from dialogue that the last companion he got went from Sgt to Lt.

In every classes prologue the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire are supposed to be abiding by a peace treaty by the end of chapter 2 they are at war again.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 05/14/13 04:18 AM

I know how to win the war. Both sides in this galaxy far far away, and a long time ago, are overly dependent on robots (they call them droids) and computers. Somebody on either side, or even a third party invader, just needs to lean how to generate an em pulse to fry all this electronic circuitry. But oddly, with all these ray guns and light sabers, I don't think they've discovered how to make an atom bomb. So they don't know that such a device detonated in a planets atmosphere would fry all the electronics. They go for grandiose schemes that are easily to ruin.

So far I can't make a good looking female cathar.

There's a new screen to show you what cartel items you''ve collected on your account, but to update it correctly you have to log on to every character you have.

Dreana and Elara Dorne are married and planning to have a family some day. I think those two have had more on screen kisses than any of my other characters and companions so far. Though Rojavan and Risha had more blank screens indicating intimate moments.

Mako (Josra's wife) mentioned having a proper honeymoon some day. Risha and Elona talked about having children. Archanathena's husband Vector Hyllus, hasn't mentioned either.

If your married your companions email you some gifts, which I always give to a different companion since married ones already maxed affection, but otherwise no advantage that I've seen yet. So far no other nPCs, not even other companions, seem to know about the marriage.

I think its funny that when Silvary arrived on Hoth, the ice planet, Malavi Quinn (medi) refuses to leave the ship and Vette asks to be left onboard as well. She pretends to have a cold. Lieutenant Pierce and Jaesa Willsaam are both willing to go. Of course you can actually summon any of them if you want. I'm working on getting Jaesa to 1000 kills so I wanted her on the planet anyway.

Oh no, Elona wants her husband to attend a boring science lecture (lol).

Xoanan has the most impressive skill visuals, the force lightning.

I liked the ending of sith warrior chapter 1 on Silvary the best. I also think she has the best healing companion.

Imperial agent has the most interesting story line.

Jedi knight is the most dull to play, skills are mostly the same, hit foe with light saber.

Xonabn just acheived "Rich" meaning he made it to 1 million ceedits.

Didn't take long to drop down to under 900k.

"Rich" is only 2nd tier of 3 tier achievement. TO be "Exorbitantly Wealthy" you have to reach 10 million. I don't think I'd make that if all my characters mailed their credits to Xoanan. He only got to 1 because he sold a cartel item.

Came in one of the packs you buy with cartel coins, which cost real money.

--------

If my SWTOR characters were Dungeons and Dragons characters, their alignments would be:

Josra: bounty hunter, dark side = neutral evil
Rojavon: smuggler, light side = chaotic goodl
Archanathena: imperial aget, dark side = lawful evil
Dreanan: tooper, light side = lawful good
Nashebo: Jedi knight, light side = lawful good (mostly)
Xoanan: Sith Inquisitor, dark side = chaotic evill
Silvary: Sith warrior, light side = lawful good
Qazari: Jedi Consular, dark side = neutral evil
Aolani: smuggler, neutral = chaotic neutral
Casami: bounty hunter, light side = lawful neutral
Misuteri: imperial agent, light side = lawful neutral
Nekokei: Sith warrior, dark side = lawful evil
Miauw: Jedi Consular, light side = lawful good

I don't have a neutral good or true neutral character.

Nashebo and Silvary the hardest to classify. Nashebo struggeles with the portion of the jedi code that says there is no passion and silvary has to hide her true nature from other sith and she has lied when telling them the truth would cause harm to others.

Aolani's neutrality isn't by choice, but a result of her being insane. You never know when she'll be kind or when she'll be cruel. She can be both in rapid succession.

Casami considers herself to be an agent of justice and justice isn't always kind.

Interesting authors of the alignment site consider Darth Vader to be lawful evil but Emperor Palpatine they list under neutral evil. Han Solo they classify as chaotic good and Luke
Skywalker as lawful good.

Captain James T. Kirk, Gandalf the Grey, Harry Potter and Spiderman they have as neutral good. Mister Spock they have as lawful good.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 05/29/13 12:53 AM

Too remain neutral she has to alternate between making light side and dark side choices. Such behavior doesn't seem rational to me.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 05/29/13 08:51 AM

Silvary has completed chapter 2.

And married Malavi Quinn.

Funny. Sith Warrior chapter 3 is title "The Emperor's Wrath". That is also the title of a jedi knight chapter 2 quest. Turns out that in both case Emperor's Wrath refers to a person, not same one of course, but same position in the empire.

Malavi not only sends gifts, he includes credits. According to today's email, Lt. Pierce is trying to come between them. He sent Malavi a report that says sith 210% likely to commit adultery and non-force users married to sith 32% increase in mortality rate.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 06/01/13 07:07 AM

Nashebo has completed chapter 2. Only need to complete chapter 2 on jedi consular to have done them all

Silvary got mail from her husband planning for future infant. He thinks last two companions should be kept away from it. When its old enough if its not force sensitive a sith lord and military officer should be able to get their child into best military academy, but of course if its force sensitive in would be sent to sith academy to carry on Silvary's legacy. Not first spouse to talk of having a child but first to make actual plans for one.

Arachnathena now level 51. The imperial agent story line makes one paranoid. I think only characters Arachnathena can trust are her companions. And her very first one is MIA. She was arrested by the sith.

Guybrush, how many chapters are there?
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 06/06/13 05:32 PM

A Prologue and 3 chapters per class. Chapter 4 is Raise of the Hutt Cartel, which you have to buy separately.

Before they added chapter 4 there was an Interlude which has additional quests on the planet Ilum. I have Josra doing chapter 4, Rojavon is on Ilum. Arachnathena is doing HK-51 droid scavenger hunt. Requires two characters, 1 level 50 (or higher) and one level 15 (or higher), one Imperial and one Republic. The higher level one has to do two quests. The quests claim to be two person heroics but can been done alone as long as you take a healer comp (or tank comp and you do the healing).

After the quests you visit 5 planets. Three are for either side. One is the Sith Empire capital, one is the Galactic Republic capital, which is why you need one of each character. The first planet you buy the item for 50K. The item goes into your missions item inventory, so the character with the quest has to do it. The remaining planets you have to search with a scanner device. The items appear at random so its very annoying. The imp planet item and rep planet item go into normal inventory so your opposite side character can mail to the character with the quest.

Once you have all the items fromt the planets then you have to do two flashpoints (group missions), one normal mode is okay but the other has to be in hard mode.

I need to search the jedi temple with republic character than Arachnathena needs to do the flashpoints. Once she has all the droid parts there will be another quest to get them assembled into 7th companion. Fortunately you only need to do all this one time, as once you have HK-51 on one character you can unlock it on the others, for a fee of in game credits or cartel coins (which cost real money).

There are also other group activities for a character whos's finished their class story to do. And now achievements, which include getting 1000 kills on each companion and maxing their affection for you. Arachnathena has all her current companions at 1000 kills but is still working on max affection. HK-51 will be one more to work on.

The HK51 scavenger hunt is the first but not only one anymore. When Hutt Cartel was added so were other series of scavenger hunts. You can start them on Makeb, the new planet if you have chapter 4 or you can goto capital world and start them there. There are two different sets, one uses a seeker droid and one uses macrobinoculars. These hunts are less annoying because the seeker droid if it finds nothing points in another direction to try. The HK-51 scanner will only say within 25 meters if anything in that range no directions. Also the seeker droid may find things besides what you are hunting for. Some useful, some junk to sell to merchants.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 06/08/13 07:26 AM

"Statment: I have no information for you master; shall we continue liquidating the undesirables?"
-- HK-51, when you click on him and he has nothing to talk about

HK-51 is unusual in several ways.

1) How you get him - the scavenger hunt which requires characters on both sides but only gets him for one.

2) Once unlocked on any one character you can unlock him on others, with credits or cartel coins. Each unclock is per character so the more characters you have the more costly it gets.

3) All other companions give you a codex entry describing their primary and secondary attribute (2nd is always endurance) and their likes and dislikes. No codex for HK-51.

4) All other companions have 1 primary attribute either aim, cunning, strength or willpower. HK-51 has two aim AND cunning. He comes with aim armor but cunning weapons. You could go all aim or all cunning and his power would increase but his critical hits would suffer as he gets that from both. This according to chat on the official web site forums.

5) Since you can unlock him on other characters at any time once you have him on one, its possible for a level 1 character to have a companion. However his armor is level 50 and won't be usable until then so you'd have to replace it.

6) He has more achievements. He has the standard 100 monster kills and 1000 kills. But he has two max affections, republic and empire. In addition, and this is unique, HK-51 has achievements to defeat other players, 100 and 500.

7. Other companions will say a variety of things if you click on them. HK-51 seems to say just the line I quoted above, until he wants to talk in private. When you first get him he wants to talk on the ship. At level 54 his talk only got Archanathena 6 XP. Other quests don't do that until you're 6 levels above them,

On my short test with HK-51, Archanathena could stand there doing nothing and he would take down a mob alone. She would of course take damage. He took out a gold star foe by himself as well but she took more damage.

Once you finish chapter 3 there is actually so much left I'm not sure what to do first. I have bounty hunter on chapter 4 on Mekab. Smuggler on Ilum. There are also Hoth and Belsavis bonus series quests to do. Not to mention all the HM flash points (4 people) and 16 people operations. BH and IA both have macrobinocular and seeker droid quests which take you all over the galaxy, Smuggler hasn't started those yet. For no particular reason, I unlocked HK-51 on smuggler.

"Declaration: I have new information to share with you, master. When we come to a lull in our liquidations, we should converse."
-- HK-51

Seeker Droid doesn't always dig up nice things. Tonight it dug up a monster.

And the traitorous spy I'm using the macrobinoculars to hunt down knows I'm after him and stirs up the natives against me.

BTW HK=Hunter Kill

Xoanan has reached level 50 (which used to be max now its 55) but just started the last plant needed for chapter 3. He's tricked jedi padawan Ashara Zavros into thinking he's a good man (he's not) and that he's in love with her (nope). She proposed but fortunantly for Xoanan she can't really marry without jedi council's permission and that's not happening, they don't even like jedi marrying jedi, I'd love to seem then when she asks to marry a sith (lol).

None of the companions are too bright you just say what they want to hear and/or bribe them with gifts and they like you even if your darkside and their light or vice versa.

All bow before Darth Xoanan! (lol) He's completed Sith Inquistor's Chapter 3: Power and Duty. Sith becoming a Darth takes a new name so the dialogue has you renamed Darth Nox but of course the game doesn't really change your character's name, just unlocks the option of adding Darth in front of it.

Just as every apprentice schemes against his/her master, every Darth imagines himself capable of replacing the emperor. In fact thats a group mission to stop a Darth who claims he's replaced the emperor.

Oddly enough its actually the Jedi Knight who gets to meet the Sith Emperor.

They keep adding new content, which I haven't gotten to (Gree, Rise of the Hut Cartel, Titans of Industry), except for some of Hut. October 1st they're adding something called The Dread War.

The Gree come and go. Next time they arrive I should do them. Others are always there. Rise of the Hut Cartel is considered Chapter 4. Others I don't think the rest are given chapter headings. BTW ROTHC is now free to subscribers, presumably with out the extras those of us who paid for it got.

I found a good sight for skill talent builds, its even up to date with The Dread War changes. I went searching because a couple of my characters got al their skill points refunded because the update change some of the skills. Other characters can be reset at the fleet, for subscribers no charge.

They site is assuming level 55 so I'll have to work out for myself what order to choose the talents on lower level characters.

It will be some time before I get to Dread War. I only have one level 55 character right now and he's still doing Rise of the Hutt Cartel (chapter 4). And I haven't played him for several months now.

Jedi Knight has two planets to go to complete chapter 3.

Guybrush, do you have more fun with one side?
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 10/07/13 01:00 AM

Its always more fun to play the bad guys, however, after playing Sith Empire characters, I'm not so sure the Republic is good and the Sith Empire is evil. Like any real life governments, they're a mixture of both. Neither is really morally superior to the other. One of the planets you visit in the game is the Republic's secret prison planet. The Sith don't have such a place. And one of the quests involves you having to decide what to do about the decedents of criminals, who are themselves innocent of any crime but are prisoners because they were born in a prison. The Republic makes no effort to free them.

I have a coworker who doesn't like the Star Wars films. He says the characters were supposed to think are the good guys are actually terrorists. I can see his point. They're rebels fighting the lawful government. And really the Jedi are guilty of genocide against the Sith race which exists in the game but is extinct by the time of the films. Not satsified with exterminating the Sith race the haunted down the "dark side" users who named themselves after the original Sith.

I think both the Jedi and the Sith have it wrong. Saying there is a light side and dark side to the Force is like saying there is a good side and a bad side to electricity. There are good and bad uses for electricity but electricity itself is neutral.

Revan who had been both a Jedi and a Sith, had it right. A force, like an earthquake or a tornado, is morally neutral. so the Force can't be light or dark. Its the use you put it to, that is moral or immoral, not the power itself.
k
Oh and BTW I think Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker brought balance to the Force when he killed off most of the Jedi, so there were two Jedi and two Sith. Both sides were now equal. But at the end of the original trilogy when he kills the Emperor and dies himself, the Force is now ubalanced again because its 1 Jedi and 0 Sith.

Course I never bought the idea the George Lucas was some kind of genius. He stole most of the plot for the original film from Japanese movies. And he didn't know what was coming next. Which is why Luke and Han are both trying to romance Leia in one film and then Leia and Luke are siblings in another. It also explains the whole "Han shot first" debate. Lucas changed his mind about Han's character so he changed the scene to make him shoot in self defense not commit a cold blooded murder. Oh and in the original trilogy Leia knew here mother but the prequels have the mother dead just after the twins were born, so she couldn't have. Oops.

Sylvari has completed Sith Warrior Chapter 3: The Emperor's Wrath, gaining the title "Darth". End if class story boss for warrior was easier to beat than inquisitor.. Of course being light side Sylvari didn't kill him just banished him from the Empire.

Jedi Consular is the only class I haven't finished. It will be awhile, Qazari, has 4 planets to go.

Except for the trooper all my characters still have companions to get to max affection and complete their stories.

Then there's HK51 and the new Treek in addition to the normal five companions, who have achievements for 1000 kills and affection, twice. You need to max both Republic and Empire versions of these extra companions. I don't have Treek yet, she cost 1 million credits.

Yes. Josra needs to finish chapter 4. None of my other characters have even started it. Then he has a corrupt corporation to take out and the Dread Masters to deal with. I don't know when/if the Gree will come back.

None of my other characters are level 55 yet, a couple are 54 though.

Bunch of regular companions to max out. One imp and one pub also have HK51. I haven't decided who's going to get Treek yet.

Somehow I have to get back into Guild Wars 2 as well, I still haven't killed that dragon yet.

Oh and then there's Cognition chapter 4.....

Edit: I'm not into PVP (Player vs Player) but for those who are next month there will a new in space ship PVP.

Qazari has completed jedi consular Chapter 2: The Rift Alliance, gaining a new companion in the process. New guy is annoying most of his chats dont' have any option that gains affection. Fortunately I had a bunch of gift other companions didn't like. Twice, so far, he's actually mentioned other charcters companions, Mako who's companion to bounty hunter and Jorgan who's companion to trooper.

One of the jedi's companions actually has a visit from one of imperial agent's companions.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 10/14/13 01:29 AM

Archanathena has 3 characters that don't have max affection yet, all 3 of them are droids. Scorpio (female shape and voice), HK-51 (male shape and voice) and ship's droid 2V-R8. The last there are no acheivments for and it has no back story so probably wont max its affection. HK-51 is optional and so far only Archanathena (Empire) and Rojavon (Republic) have it. To get his acheivment requires both sides. There is a sith warrior companion that you have to max on light side character and dark side in order to get the acheivment. Thought they were going to change that but its still there. HK51 has two additional steps, kill 100 player characters, kill 500 player characters. I guess that requires open world PVP. Somebody in game suggested, being a jark, hang around low level planets in PVP area and attack everytime an opposite side lower level person comes by.

I don't have Treek yet but she has the same 100 kills, then 1000 kills (none players, either side) and 1000 affection on both Republic and Empire to get her achievement. So you have to have Treek twice too.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 10/15/13 09:47 AM

Qazari is stuck on an impossible quest. Supposed to kill five hunter droids but killing just one is impossible. The dang things weapon range is greater than my force skill's range so I can't stand back and zap because it will shoot fire at me and burn me to death. Healer companion can't out heal it. If I move into iightsaber ranger the droid has some kind of burst weapon that kills me in one shot. Its absurd I'm two levels higher than the quest and I can barely scratch the droid. Spent forty-five minutes failing to hurt one droid, forget killing five. The SWTOR web sites are useless, all they do is repeat quest text which isn't helpful. I don't need a web site to tell me what the quest says. None of them give any tips on actually doing the quest.

Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 10/15/13 04:39 PM

I got it. Instead of using Tharen who can't out heal the droid's damage, I use Nadia who keeps it busy with her lightsaber while I stand off and force skill it. Both of us nearly die but we get them. Instead of wandering around trying to find the droids I stay in one spot and wait for same one to respawn. Same thing with another quest, to reprogram hidden cameras. One is nearby and keeps resetting so I keep clicking on it.

The previous quest pulled a dirty trick on me. I'm trying to get the lieutenant to 1000 kills, he only needs 41, but he wasn't doing well on the quest, kept dying, so I switched to Nadia. All my other companions, who normally rest on the ship, were doing the quest out of sight. At the end the lieutenant got caught off from me. Had I kept him with me he would have been fine. So now I'm been having to go on without him. I just rescued him but now he has to recuperate awhile before he can actually rejoin me. (sigh). At least I got Nadia to 100 kills.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 10/15/13 10:58 PM

Qazari reached level 50 which still gives an achievement even though max is now level 55. It also gave achievment for having all Republic classes at level 50. Also got Empire version of that as well. Josra (bounty hunter). my first character, is still only one at level 55. Rojavon (smuggler), Arachnathena (imperial agent) and Draenen (trooper) are all at 54 however. Eventually Rojavon will be my first republic to make 55.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 10/18/13 09:59 PM

Qazari (jedi counselor) is my second character to have all companions at max affection and to have 1000 kills each, after Draenen (trooper). Both are repulic. Next closest are both imperials, bounty hunter (Josra) and imperial agent (Arachnathena).

Nadia some how got the idea that she married Qazari, though he never mentioned the word. Anyway she's sending gifts which he regifts to lower level character's who companions can actually use them.

Actually doing all the quests on a planet makes it take a lot longer than skipping all those secondary quests. I still need to find two heroics to complete all heorics (both republic and imperial) on Corellia. I'm guessing the last two are during bonus series. Sine I'm nearly done with main quests.

Qazari has completed Chapter 3: The Children of the Emperor. I've now finished every class story. Now repeat on opposite alignments than I did before, ie lightside jedi consular.

Then and Now photos of my characters:

Josra at creation, level 55 with dark side V, level 55 with helmet on

Rojavon at creation and at level 54 with hat on - armor dye: light gray/deep blue (on chest which spreads color to rest of armor)

Arachnathena at creation, level 54 with dark side V, level 54 with helmet on (dark side off)

Dreanan at creation and at level 54 with helmet on

Nashebo at creation and at level 51. - armor dye: light orange/white (in most light it it looks yellow in subdued light it actually shows as orange)
He's not actually showing helmet as its just a different cover over empty eye sockets and doesn't show the hood (thought they were supposed to fix the hood not showing).

Xoanan at creation, at level 50 with Dark Side IV, at level 50 with helmet on - I don't know what effect reaching dark side V will have on Xoanan.

Silvary at creation and at level 51 with helmet on

Qazari at creation, at level, at level 52 with dark side V, at level 52 with helmet on - armor dye: black/deep blue

Aolani at creation and at level 25 with helmet on

Casami at creation and at level 21 with helmet on

Mistuteri at creation and at level 22 with helmet on - armor dye: deep blue/white

Nekokei at creation and at level 18 with helmet on - (he's too low for dark side to effect his appearance)

Miaw at creation and at level 16 - no helmet the hood is part of the chest armor

Xoanan and Qazari are the only characters I actually have showing helmets when I play them, the rest have head armor hidden. Dark Side effect is off for all of them.

Pysco, Yulyadya, Sectine haven't changed in appearance yet.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 10/26/13 04:47 AM

Rojavon just maxed affection on all his companions (not counting HK51 or ship's droid), making him my third character to do so. Unfortunately 3 of his companions (4 if you count HK51) still need 1000 kills each. I'm amazed the wookie has 0 kills, because achievements came out long after Rojavon had stopped using the wookie and the game didn't keep track of foes killed before the achievements were added. Its actually harder to get achievements done on older characters. The early companions are not cut out for the later, harder areas of the game.

So far none of my imperial character have maxed all their companion's affection. Though some are close.

I posted about HK-51 hunter droid before. Haven't done much with either empire or republic versions, but I have noted some differences in dialogue.

When he has nothing to talk about:
Sith Empire version:
Statement: I have no information for you master; shall we continue liquidating the undesirables?"

Galactic Republic version:
"Statement: There is nothing to discuss at the present time, master. We should resume deleting troublemakers."

When he wants to talk:
Sith Empire version:
"Declaration: I have new information to share with you, master. When we come to a lull in our liquidations, we should converse."

Haven't gotten the republic version enough affection to find out what it says when it wants to talk, yet.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic going F2P 15/11 - 10/28/13 12:19 AM

Nekokei has hired a mercenary, an ewok named Treek.

I went the Cartel Coin route, 2100 coins (2400 coins cost $19.99 in real money) rather than the 1 million in game credits. Now for another 700 Cartel Coins I can unlock her on all my characters.

Treek has 4 achievements, max affection republic, max affection empire, kill 100 foes, kill 1000 foes. The kills can be on any character.

Treek is a chatter box. I think she has more random battle comments than any other companion. She certainly has more to say when she has nothing to say than any other companion. She has 15 different lines (that I've found so far) if you click on her when she doesn't want to talk.

She speaks in Ewok so you have to read her dialogue.

"If this war takes me to the stars endless, it is always worth fighting."
- Tweek

Pysco on the Republic side got Treek as well. On the republic side she has differnt lines:

"I make songs of your journeys. One day we will sing them."

However, the JA-3 Speeder requires a level 3 license so its not useable by lower level characters. It actually looks like they mixed pieces from a couple other speedsters to make this one.

They also have a different mini pet for sale, Infected Womp Weasel, apparently for Halloween as it goes away November 5th. If you want the IWM you only have to buy it once for 120 cartel coins than you can unlock it on all other characters for 60. Each character than has to go into Collections to claim it.

Nashebo has maxed affection (went broke doing it) and got all companions to 1000 kills each. So all my original Republic characters have all companions at max affection. Rojavon the smuggler still has to get some to 1000 kills.

Empire side still working on both.

Both sides need to max affection on HK51 (Arachnathena and Rojavon) and Treek. All ready reached 1000 kills on Treek. Hk51 only has 351.

My second time through characters don't need to worry about 1000 kills now but maxing affection still helps their characters to fight/heal/gather/craft better.
