Marie, I am trying to play the first AC and am seriously about to give up. The game controls seem clunky and I guess I hate games that don't allow you to save at will.

If you are a seasoned AC player, maybe you can help me?

I am supposed to pickpocket someone. I lock on with the F key, start following, get the instruction to pick the pocket by using the Shift key, and use the shift key, but it never works. Never. I've tried probably two dozen times.

The problem is, when I fail I then have to reload and replay for at least five minutes before I can try this again. Frankly I'm getting very bored walking through this town over and over again (that's not really my idea of exciting gaming).

Do have any pointers on the pickpocket sequence?

Hi hagatha smile

I've found some help here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYNWVdA2N0A

It is a youtube video. For PC it gives these instructions:

Quote:
LOL! The Pickpoketing is very easy.

1.You press F to lock te target

2. you walking behind target

3.you press shift to 4-5 sec. laugh

Help is also to be found in this thread:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/228731-Pickpocketing-on-PC-Forums

Quote:
1) Lock onto target.

2) When target is done talking and starts to walk away, follow slowly, keeping a safe distance.

3) When you're in range, the top-left HUD item, the button identifier, will show the option to Pickpocket. This will be done with the button that normally controls your sword.

4) The cake is a lie. (Couldn't think of a 4th step.)

Note the Portal Reference here....

From AC2 the pickpocket experience is very different as far as I can tell from the info I have gathered...

Argh. Thanks for those links.

But I must be the world's biggest klutz, then, because I tried all that and still keep failing. Even if I don't get caught in the attempt, eventually the target just gets away and I can never find him again. duh

Phooey.

hagatha, Sorry to hear your having issues with the game. It took me a bit to learn also but it may be a bit easier since I use the console (PS3).

Do you use the keyboard or a gamepad on your computer when playing this game?

Keyboard.

I'll keep on trying. I was hoping I could catch up and play III with Marie but it is not to be, not this time anyway. Back to Grimrock it is.

I'm asking because to me it seems like it might be easier to pick pocket someone (in the game) when using a gamepad.

Good luck smile

I think so, too, Karsten. This game interface doesn't seem to be too keyboard-friendly.

Thanks. I'll keep at it a bit longer.

How's it going, Hagatha?

I think you are having trouble as you are not holding the "key" shift? not sure to complete the actual theft.

Did that help, Hagatha?

I haven't tried for a bit. I'll give it a shot tonight though - haven't given up the game yet. Our sick kitty seems to be out of danger for the moment so I'll have some time to play.
