I am Looney, Big map area.

This online playing is sorta new for me.

My in game typing is pretty slow. Did one dungeon about level 35, random party.

My son inlaw will do them with me. He needs to level up to 40 to do the Mansion one. It might be haunted eek

Thanks Dunn

Dunn, I played for a while and really enjoyed it, but never did any of the dungeons. wave

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 01/09/13 10:47 PM

I've got one level 80 character. I could skip the other dungeons and go right to the end, but at least on my first character I'd like to play through all the dungeons once. Course I actually have to get to them first, and while I'm in the area I'll want to complete the map. So I'll probably not actually kill the elder dragon for another year. I'm not in hurry. I didn't finish any of the 3 Guild Wars 1 campaigns in first year either. I don't understand people who rush to the end.

I haven't actually been playing much Guild Wars 2 since I bought a non-renewing 60 day subscription to Star Wars: The Old Republic. Once that subscription runs out I'll get back into Guild Wars 2

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/01/13 05:57 AM

Original Draén

Draén after a total makeover (yes he is now she)

And since Draen is welsh for "thorn" I don't even have to change the character's name (unlike human and norn characters I plan to change genders on).

Currently wearing heritage armor because the previous armor looked bad on female. Sylvari's dont have nice legs, not in bark mode and I wanted to stick with that, so legs need to be covered.

The human guardian and norn mesmer will probably just be deleteed and recreated as female, since I have not played them much.

BTW they are planning on a name change kit.

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/03/13 03:28 AM

In Guild Wars 1 its Canthan New Year. It the Year of the Snake but you can trade in 100 lunar token for a medal that gets you one of any of the celestial animal mini and I choose the rat from 2008. If I wanted to spend the rest of the weekend in GW1 I could actually get more tokens and trade them in for fortunes which have a tiny chance of giving any one of the celestial animal minis, but I don't want to. After playing Guild Wars 2 (and SW: TOR) Guild Wars 1 seems so slow. And I keep trying to press F instead of clicking mouse on NPCs (laugh).

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/03/13 05:19 PM

Guybrush, are you still playing both Guild Wars actively?
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/03/13 07:06 PM

No. I just check in GW1 occasionally. I only found out it was Canthan New Year, because I was looking up my Guild Wars 1 character names.

My new Guild Wars 2 characters:

Tsuyoi Meimu ("powerful illusion" in Japanese) - female human mesmer, replaces male norn mesmer. I have a mesmer by same name in Guild Wars 1.

Loviisa ("famous warrior" in Finnish) - female norn guardian, replaces male human guardian

Yes I flipped their professions as well as genders. Had a hard time finding the norn's name. Every norse, icelandinc, scandiavian, swedish name was taken. I was stunned when i entered Loviisa and opening video ran.

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/28/13 01:46 AM

Hi Guys, I'm looking for some basic advice about GW2. I want to get info based on my experience in WoW and Rift most recently and several others going back to Everquest.

I am not interested really in comparing GW2 to other RPGs. That would probably be inviting a flame war anyway.

What I am hoping to get is some advice of how to play this that might be different than the WoW/Rift style of playing. I tried it for a few hours and it never really "clicked" with me. I'm going to get back in and start playing again but want to know what things to look for or what things to do to get the most out of the game. Things that might not be obvious to a MMO gamer that is so used to the "standard" games.

I hope this isn't too vague and thanks in advance.

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/28/13 02:41 AM

I've never played WOW. My first MMO was Guild Wars 1 and then Guild Wars 2. It wasn't until I started playing Star Wars: The Old Republic that I experienced things the Guild Wars 2 creators were trying to get away from. There are definitely tanks, DPS and healers in SW:TOR. Guild Wars 2 doesn't have a true tank or dedicated healers. Every profession has ways of reducing damage taken, causing damage over time and healing.

Playing SW:TOR the one thing I miss most from Guild Wars 2, is the shared rewards. Everybody who takes part in taking down a major foe gets some reward. The other day in SW, I was with a team of dozen mid level people who came together to take down a world boss. Just as we were ready to go some lone max level character ran right passed us and attacked the boss. Though our team jumped into the fight, we didn't get credit on the quest when the boss died nor did any of use get a chance at the drop. The level 50 player stole the boss and its drop, a drop 20 levels below him and probably useless to him. These world bosses are slow to respawn. We switched instances and were lucky to find him there with no one going after him and got him again, but when a boss drops 1 item and 12 people on the team, 1 person gets it and 11 get nothing but experience. In Guild Wars 2 a chest would have spawned and been active for everyone who took part, they would all get something.

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/28/13 02:48 AM

Interesting Guybrush. That is a big difference. Quite a difference in philosophy.
Posted By: looney4labs

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/28/13 05:19 AM

Bob, yep that is a major difference that I really like. Also, in GW2 resource nodes are shared. So if 5 folks all see the same tree, they can all harvest the tree, mine the ore, etc.

Also, you get experience for helping folks out, but that does not nerf their experience at all. So when I would be running by and see someone in trouble, I'd stop and help, and vice versa. Course, this happens in WoW too, but I found it happened more frequently in GW2.

Also, to kill a world boss you do not need to be invited in GW2...show up and participate.

I never got around to doing the dungeons while I was playing GW2 so really can't compare those. Both games are a lot of fun.

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 02/28/13 07:10 AM

Let's put it this way, I die more in GW2 dungeons even with self healing. SW if we don't over aggro, getting the healer killed, I can usually survive.

Guild Wars 2 opening screen had some bad music. I assume it was an April Fool's Day gag.

Guild Wars 1 opening screen has "Confidential Information" which is unreadable. Whether its supposed to be something that can be decoded or just gibberish for an April Fool's joke I don't know. One person I found in the game said they couldn't decipher it.

Not having played for several months I've missed a lot. I just read a short story about an evil sylvari. Checked the wiki and she was in a group event. One thing I like better about SWTOR their events repeat so if you miss them they'll be back again some time. Like I still haven't done the Gree stuff. Got to get back in that game too, they just added level 55 missions. GW2 does special stuff that runs then is done.

I missed the election in Lion's Arch.

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 09/05/13 05:51 AM

Coming September 17th, Tequatl Rising. The in game event to Defeat Tequatl the Sunless (a dragon) is going to be made harder but over more rewards.

Also a new Looking For Group tool is coming to make it easier to find groups for events and dungeons.

One complaint I had about Guild Wars 2 is that in an attempt to stop spamming the chat system will lock you out of you repeat the same thing too often, which makes it hard to look for groups. So a separate tool for that is necessary.

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 09/05/13 06:52 PM

I never did the dungeons as I was uncertain as to how to find a group. This will be a nice addition.

Re: Guild Wars 2, Continued - 09/05/13 09:22 PM

Darn. I decided to check my online games for updates. Just discovered I missed a special week end in original Guild Wars. They celebrated GW2 anniversary in GW1 as well.

Most of my GW1 characters had anniversaries themselves. Ramei Arashi (my 1st) 5 years, got mini summant giant herder. Dr. Sanguinary and R O A D Rage both 4 years, got a mini abomination. Kewalaka Iohunukonu and Tenpi Yari 4 years, minit terrorweb dryder. Not So Mighty Thor 4 years, mini Flowstone elemental. Saffron The Pius 4 years, mini dredge brute. Seirei Teishu 4 years, mini Nian. Wataro Goro 3rd, mini roaring ether. Etienne Martel 1 year, mini devourser. Kissa Nimbleclaw 1 year, mini Prince Rurik. Love IS A Rose 1 year mini forest minotaur.

In Guild Wars 2 Ramei got his 1st year present. I'll pass on the xp boosters to some other character since he's 80. In addition to the mini queen for birthday I also got some other minis in email. And a chest wants me to choose an exotic weapon skin. Don't know what to take so saving it for later. Off to work now.

Anyway all 3 of my online games now up to date, although STWOR is going to have other update tomorrow.
