dark side splurge

It may have been the champagne talking, or I may have just been overwhelmed by an uncontrollable need to be dark side but I just pre-ordered the new alien horror survival game as well as the upcoming civ game (I loved alpha centauri) and got wasteland 2 as well (with 1 thrown in).
As Wasteland is the only one I can play at present, will start with that, but any thoughts on whether I should play 1 first? The hundred page pdf manual for 2 was a little daunting I have to confess so if 1 is a gentler settling in I could start there.
