UPDATE: New Link to the FIG Crowdfunding Site for Wasteland 3

Only day 1 and they are already more than half way there! Yippeee! happydance

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you that aren't familiar with the Wasteland series, think Mad Max, but with a western twist.

Here's the Opening Movie from Wasteland 2 to give you an idea of the game's premise

Here is an example of gameplay from Wasteland 2: The Director's Cut

For those that say, "Hey, this looks a lot like Fallout," Well, there's a good reason for that. Some of the team that developed the original Fallout Series prior to Bethesda purchasing the rights to the game are InXile staff members. The original Wasteland is considered "The Godfather" of post-apocalyptic games.

Here are a few bullet points on the upcoming offering:

-A party-based role-playing game, with a renewed focus on our trademark complex story reactivity and strategic combat.

-By including vehicles, environmental dangers, and a revamped, more fluid action system, we are evolving on Wasteland 2's deep tactical turn-based combat and unique encounter design.

-Play by yourself or with a friend in story-driven synchronous or asynchronous multiplayer. Choices open up (or close off) mission opportunities, areas to explore, story arcs, and lots of other content.

-Your Ranger Base is a core part of the experience. As you help the local people and establish a reputation in Colorado, quests and narrative will force you to make decisions on how to lead.

-The game will be set in the savage lands of frozen Colorado, where survival is difficult and a happy outcome is never guaranteed. Players will face difficult moral choices and make sacrifices that will change the game world.

-Wasteland 3 will feature a deep and engaging story utilizing a newly-revamped dialog tree system from the celebrated writers of Torment: Tides of Numenera.

-Simultaneously releasing to Windows, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

So...has anyone played the first 2 Wastelands? I bought the first one a while ago but haven't fired it up.

I haven't played them, but they're on my rather long list of games to get to... grin

Here's a good, straight forward video that encompasses a full hour of game play, which gives a good look at the character development and other game mechanics.

Amazingly enough, the FIG Crowdfunding for Wasteland 3 has reached their goal in only 3 days!

I guess the want for old fashioned, story driven RPG's is still very much alive and kicking in the gaming world! thumbsup

Even though they've met their goal, they are still taking pledges to increase the games features. The campaign is open until Nov. 4th and many of the pledge rewards levels from $33 on up are still available.

Oh poor thread
long since dead,
without pain
Arise! Arise! To post again! devil

Sorry, just practicing a little thread necromancy! lol

Hard to believe that it's been a few years since we talked about the crowd funding for Wasteland 3. A lot has happened between then and now:

InXile was purchased by Microsoft in late 2018.

The Linux and Mac version of Wasteland 3 have been put on hold. Again, not surprising since Microsoft is Windows and Xbox, so....

The early bird collector's edition has been shipped and it's quite nice. I received mine yesterday. Everything was good quality. It didn't come with the game disk, because that's not going to be released until 08/28, but I'm not complaining. If you're curious, here's the contents of that edition: https://www.fig.co/campaigns/wasteland-3/updates/1150

So if you pledged for either the early bird or standard collector's edition you should be getting it very soon, if you haven't already thumbsup

Wow. Some of those investment packages are amazing, if expensive. I'll have to wait with the ret of the hoi polloi until the game comes out. I am looking forward to it.

I tend to gravitate toward the game swag from collector's versions, but in days gone by they weren't quite as costly. Since InXile was one of the old school game houses I decided to splurge on the Early Bird Collector's Version back when they just started the crowd funding. I figured, $95 wasn't that bad considering the price of Triple-A games can be up to $80 just for the game. Cyberpunk 2077's collector's version was $250! That's crazy.

I sill have quite a few old games in their original boxes, and there's a Zorkmid around here somewhere with Dimwit Flathead on it, plus a coin from Skyrim, but I'm told we have no more room for stuff, not even very cool game stuff. I even have to get rid of some of my stuff. At least he didn't call my stuff a naughty word for junk (for those of you who remember the old George Carlin skit about Stuff).

Yeah, when I re-modeled the home office to make it easier for me to work from home, I realized that I had to make some decisions about all the game chachkies that I collected over the years. I decided to keep them lol I just packed them up for later use when we finally redo our basement. They'll make for weird, but fun knick knacks in the future rec-room. It was hard deciding which ones would stay though...

I see Wasteland 3 is now available on GOG. I might take the plunge.

I am forcing myself to finish my current game of Enderal before I start something new (Fallout 4 doesn't count because it just lives on my computer) but I did buy it.

EDIT: I am just having the worst luck with new games these days. First Red Dead Redemption 2 was a disaster that I had to return, and now Wasteland 3 for some reason will not download via GOG Galaxy. There is just no option to download it like there is for all my other games. Almost seems like my new laptop is cursed.....

Hagatha, check out this thread on GOG here.

This was apparently a problem that GOG was having.

Thanks, Marian. I'm sure the problem will get fixed. It was just another, "what the...?" moment. It was also a sign that I needed to back away from the computer and go to bed.

Had to laugh at that, hagatha !! A common predicament lol

Of course it's just fine today, having been fixed overnight. I might start it up just to have a peek, but I am determined to finish my current game before I go wandering off somewhere else. I know only too well where that leads.

Re: UPDATED: Wasteland 3 by InXile Release 08/28 -Collector's Versions now Shipping - 09/19/20 10:31 PM

Since I'm on hiatus from Death Stranding until I have a joystick controller, I decided to dive into this game.

Wasteland 3 is pretty familiar, in that it is a turn-based top-down RPG. The learning curve is pretty flat if you've played Wasteland 2, which I have, so I was able to dive in and create my own characters to start with. The game world is familiar, with similar mechanics except that early in the game you get your own armoured vehicle that can sometimes help with battles. The character skill trees are very much the same, too, so it's easy to work out how to divide up the skills between party members and level up your party. There are some cool weapons, too, like a gun that shoots frozen ferrets.

In short, it's more of the same, with better graphics and music, so if you liked Wasteland 2 you'll like this one, too.

That's good to hear. I enjoyed both 1 & 2, and could use a familiar gaming platform, since I've had limited time to game, or pretty much anything lately. crazy

Re: UPDATED: Wasteland 3 by InXile Release 08/28 -Collector's Versions now Shipping - 09/21/20 12:45 AM

So far so good. The only annoyance I've found is that it's not really possible to skip through dialogue. Otherwise no glitches, no crashes, decent game all around.

EDIT: Farther in, the only real issue I've found is that my female characters all seem to have male voices. How very odd. Although in this game, odd is commonplace.

I'm finding it harder to stay afloat financially in this iteration of Wasteland. So much to buy, so little money.

I just took out a group of Reagan-worshiping zealots, including a giant Ronald Reagan statue that shoots electrical bolts at its enemies. Most of the women were named Nancy. Most peculiar.

I've been playing this for a few days now, and I have to say that it improves upon Wasteland 2 in almost every way. Loads of fun.

The only negative I've noticed is that the load times are very long, but apparently they're already working on a fix for that.

I highly recommend this game.
