Will do. I'm hoping I can stay up late to download it, but I don't know if the time on GOG is Eastern time or what.

Have you come up for air, yet?

Reviews seem to be positive.

I have just now, Hagatha. <takes a BIG breath> The game falls under the category of "have you read any good games lately". I read until I needed to seriously take a break. lol The character creation was different, but enjoyable. It starts while you're falling. I never saw that one before.
I have had only one fight to contend with and it was very minor, maybe because I am playing as a Slick Jack with lots of ability to talk my way out of situations.
Your character is constantly evolving because of the Tides which are affected by the decisions you make. Not regarding your class, but the type of character you are i.e., compassionate to more self-centered, etc.
The only thing, so far, that I really don't like is my character's portrait. Her hair is awful. Minor gripe, but I like attractive characters.
My 4 year old rig is playing this game like a charm with no lagging and dragging at all. The graphics are nice, but it's no Skyrim, but then it's not supposed to be.
This would be a good game for adventure gamers wanting to try out the Darkside, I think.
I didn't want to get too specific on things so as not to spoil them for others, but you get the gist. wave2
Oh, and BTW it only took about 35 min to download the game. That was a real plus!

Yup, with over 1.2 million words of story and dialogue they've redefined the idea of a story-based RPG, but also added more spoken dialogue than originally intended, which will help folks who aren't as attracted to reading. It certainly seems like they worked to take an original approach to as much as they could. I found the initial character class selection an interesting switch-up, it's not so much what you want to be, but more about how you deal with life's situations. thumbsup

It's one of those games that you either need to take regular breaks or you end up getting so engaged in the story that you forget about time completely.

Edit: Just got the update for my early release edition through Steam, 1.5GB. That's a pretty hefty update.

Oiks! That's a lotta talking!

On the other hand, I'm in the middle of Wolfenstein: The New Order and there's not much dialogue other than the odd grunt, so maybe a dialogue-heavy game next would be good.

Very interested in the game but it's a bit pricey for me for now so I'll have to be patient !! laugh

I saw on Steam that there are three "versions" of the game available, ranging from $49.00 to $99.00. I assume the cheap one is the base game and the others include DLC? I'm all for getting the season pass if that's what that is. But yes, hefty price tag. I guess the fan base is legion and rabid.

To clarify, none of the game editions include DLC in the sense of future expansions that are related to Game Passes. The difference in cost only applies to the additional digital content that is made available through download. It's confusing that they term the "upgrades" for the other editions as "DLC upgrades."

As far as I know, I have not seen a season pass for late expansions offered for sale yet. If you were a Backer during their crowd funding campaign, you are guaranteed future DLC. If the game is purchased after the campaign is over, then there will mostly likely be costs associated with any future expansions.

Here's a breakdown of what's included in each of the game editions:

The base edition is $44.99 and includes the game plus the usual basic support.

The Legacy edition is $64.99 and includes the following digital content:

-Digital Soundtrack - The Original Soundtrack for Torment: Tides of Numenera. Composed by Mark Morgan.
-Digital World Map - A high-resolution version of Torment's world map.
-"From the Depths" Digital Novellas (2x) - "From the Depths: Gold" and "From the Depths: Blue", two digital novellas fleshing out the game's world and backstory.
-Forum Avatars - A selection of forum avatars based on the in-game party portraits.
-Ringtones - A selection of Torment-themed ringtones and notification sounds.

The Immortal Edition is $88.99 and includes the following:

-Digital Soundtrack - The Original Soundtrack for Torment: Tides of Numenera. Composed by Mark Morgan.
-Digital World Map - A high-resolution version of Torment's world map.
-Digital Concept Art - A selection of high-resolution concept pieces and wallpaper.
-"From the Depths" Digital Novellas (5x) - The full "From the Depths" Tidal novella series. Each novella is themed around a different Tide and fleshes out the game's world and backstory.
-Digital Strategy Guide - A companion guidebook containing walkthroughs of quests and location overviews in the game.
-Digital Concept Art Book - A lovingly crafted digital art book showing off a selection of the game's concept and promotional artwork.
-Forum Avatars - A selection of forum avatars based on the in-game party portraits.
-Ringtones - A selection of Torment-themed ringtones and notification sounds.

Hmm. I think I'll skip all the "stuff" and focus on the game.

I got the least expensive game because I get my WT free from gamepressure.com and they have wonderful maps and if I really get stuck all I have to do is post here and before anyone answers I figure it out. Who could ask for anything more lol The other things are nice, but not necessary for me.

Re: 14 Hours and Counting - 03/02/17 08:09 PM

Well I've put in about 20 hours and it's been running very smooth. My character is a Nano: Observant; that is an individual with skills and knowledge of the ancient technologies and numenera. Kind of along the lines of a Technomancer. My only disappointments so far are what many are considering the most critical cuts that didn't make it to this realease. Party size limitation (2) and lack of faction alignments, which negates the context of some dialogue. I know Brian Fargo mentioned they would be evaluating how to add back in certain aspects that didn't make the release in later updates, but those two were unexpected.

Other than that, it is still a tremendously depthy game, but I'm still getting that linear feel due to the way some dialogue drives you to specific circumstances. I guess I'm too used to sandbox style games, probably should have run through Baldur's Gate or something prior to starting this again. Sigh, I've been spoiled by current game combat mechanics and have to battle my way (turn-based of course wink ) back into the RPG purist realm.
