Quake 4 - 08/26/17 01:31 AM

If I am asking an inappropriate question, I apologize in advance. I owned a new copy of Quake 4. When I moved it was one of the games I lost. If I buy a preowned copy will steam allow me to play the game? I am wondering because when I bought my new computer Steam would not allow me replay Skyrim, I had to buy a new copy of the game. Will I need to buy a new copy of Quake 4? I have tried looking on line for an answer with no success.

Kazz, I have no idea. Son has been able to add games to Steam in the past, but it didn't work with one of the Witcher's. He had to buy the game again.

Is there not a Steam contact number

Being as we are talking about Quake 4, GOG released this game this week, and it's 75% off right now and will cost you less than four dollars. Not sure when the sale ends, but that's what it says today.

It's odd that you had to buy a new copy of Skyrim just because you bought a new computer. I've played it on two computers with no trouble -- the only thing was that I had to start a new game because of the different operating system.

hagatha, I tried for hours to get my Skyrim to work, but Steam was not having it. I went to Gamestop an bought a brand new game. I bought the Legendary game the second time. I am really scared to buy any game that is connected with Steam. This is not the first time Steam has done this to me. I would really like to play Quake 4 again, but the brand new copies are really expensive.

kazzmo, could you describe how Steam wasn't letting you play Skyrim on a new computer? The game licensing isn't directly tied to the computer, but you may need to validate the computer you are using through Steam's authentication process. In my experience, it's been painless and they provided the prompts to complete.

Edit: There is one other possibility. Occasionally, if you shut down without logging out of Steam, it may still have record of that instance running. Since the license only allows one player, it will indicate that you have another instance running and prompt to shut it down. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work. The sure way to clear it up is to start up the previous PC, open Steam and log out of it. If it appears you are already logged out, then try logging in and out again. Before you do that though, make sure you are logged out of the new instance of Steam on the newer system.

There's also this

Seems to me you might mistakenly remove the game from your Library, thinking you were only hiding or uninstalling it.

Trail_Mystic, The old computer Skyrim was on had rolled over and died. I do not remember everything I tried, that was two years ago. It is possible I am being unfair to Steam. I have three games on Steam at this time, i might try Black Ops tonight and see if it works.

Jenny100, i had not removed Skyrim from the old computer, as I was still playing the game when the computer died. That may be the problem. Thank you for the above link, I will read it tonight.

Thank you for your time.
