How do you bind the medkits to a key rather than having to go through the inventory?
I am sure it is simple but I can't work it out

It sounds like you can't, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, it's like they forgot something when setting up key binding with the medkits. I've played the game twice and got used to it, but it's awkward.
