Immortals Fenyx rising

I'm having problems with this game namely I can't get fenyx to use her axe. The instructions are very vague and unhelpful, I contact Ubisoft
support but found them to be the same. They would do nothing for days and then send me an email to ask if I wanted to continue.
Can you help?

Hold shift for axe attack.

Left mouse - sword

shift + left mouse - axe
