Home, again....

Easy peasy day planned. Gaming today while Hubby's watching a sports channel. Then, Hubby's barbecuing gourmet hamburgers, several different kinds, from our butcher. We picked up two bacon and cheddar, two bleu cheese, and one jalepeno pepper. We'll grill them and serve them with sauteed mushrooms and grilled asparagus spears. Pair all that with a hearty, robust Zinfandel, and you have magic! yay

Alrighty, off to see what's afoot!

Re: Sunday's Finer in the Diner - 03/18/13 01:51 AM

It's been a great day. From 10 am till 4 pm I spent at my Tenant's and at the Home Depot getting a new water heater. Thankfully, my roofer neighbor, whom I called when I couldn't get in touch with the plumber he sent over last time who was soooo good and cheap, found me a plumber who was able to install the new water heater. Had the company of two men all day, and of course the 3 family members (with no water for 6 hours. AND their visiting son from LA managed to insert himself into everything bragging and talking about himself and generally being a pain. He is sooo full of himself. Ugh.

But in any case, we got the heater, and got it installed after removing 2 shelves from the cabinet which were totally rotted and growing horrible mold on them. I am guessing that the heater was leaking for at least a month for that much damage. Just can't seem to get the tenants (who are nice people) to let me know when things go wrong.

So extra money for wood to rebuild the cabinet but the plumber guy did an awesome job. He even found a mouse nest UNDER the bottom of the cabinet where the mouse had come through the wall from the kitchen and had camped out. Hole is now boarded over, nest gone. It looked very old so it probably was years ago. No mice there in a long time.

AND the fun part is the price. Heater and all the parts (new copper pipes etc) and the wood for the cabinet cost me 364. The labor (which is usually more than the parts was a whopping 160! Uhhuh. My roofer friend (who stayed all day) told me what to pay, and suggested a 20 dollar tip (which I was already planning, and then I gave the roofer guy another 20, took the cash and said he would take care of the plumber. I am almost positive that figure of 160 was only a fraction of what the roofer was going to compensate the guy for working on a Sunday, on an emergency basis. Nice roofer neighbor. Great to have him around and he really cares. I can't believe that labor plus tips was only 200!!!! Never happens in the real world. It was a good day even with all the drama and fanfare. Ahhhhhh.

So thankful for friends and good neighbors! hearts

Joe I hope your back is better in the morning. And L4L and Soot I hope you're both feeling better in the morning. Ana you're getting some snow? I'm looking at the weather reports for snow and you're right in the path. We're getting your snow along about Monday night and Tuesday. I think they're predicting 2 to 4 inches for our area. We'll see.

Night all. Early work shift in the morning. See you for tea and something to eat.
