YOU can see how it works in this video. It's not in English though.

Fun!

Re: How does this work Mag? - 04/07/13 03:53 PM

Hi Geo,

As far as I can see:
- it's a 7x9 squares.
- with a diagonal cut through the squares (and 2 vertical at bottom), rearrange the bottom to make 10 rows first on 4th column (note going to his left) and then rearrange back to 9.
- he did this 3 times.
- Around 1:37 or so, he rearrange the squares back to 7x9 but the size is off by then because of the removal of the 3 squares. Not as tight. He didn't shake the tiles inside the wood box.
- Now with placing back the removed 3 tiles - they are rearranged at 7 rows on 4th column (note going to his right) and then back to 9 rows.
- when back to original size in the box with all the tiles back in - note that the tiles are tight inside the wood box and no dark spaces on the side.

- So the trick is to change the size of the cut squares by means of the geometric markings of the tiles and the vertical cut.

Maybe someone can give a better explanation.

Thanks Geo.

mag,
To me,from the solution video,it looks like the tile was accounted for in thirds of a tile shown by the sliver shown. The video also made me hungry.

Thank you Geo and MaG. I think I actually understand most of this, lol. I thought maybe the frame was switched, size wise but your explanation makes a lot of sense, MaG. Pretty neat! woozy yes

Re: How does this work Mag? - 04/08/13 04:26 PM

I still think it's a 'slight of hand' magic trick. The guy seems to be palming the extra pieces and making them appear while the original configuration remains intact. Just my guess.

Actually it's all about the angles. You can see it explained in the video in the second link and in MaG's explanation.

Yup Ana, I watched both videos and still think there is no way to make the same size thingy fit into the frame without those 'extra' pieces. Nope. Not buying it. It's a trick. thumbsdown
