It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Two engineering students meet on campus one day. The first engineer calls out
to the other, "Hey Nice bike! Where did you get it?"
"Well," replies the other, "I was walking to class the other day when this
pretty, young coed rides up on this bike. She jumps off, takes off all of her
clothes, and says 'You can have anything you want!!'"
"Good choice," says the first, "her clothes wouldn't have fit you anyway."

"How was your golf game, dear?" asked Jack's wife Tracy.

"Well, I was hitting pretty well, but my eyesight's gotten so bad I
couldn't see where the ball went."

"But you're seventy-five years old, Jack!" admonished his wife,
"Why don't you take my brother Scott along?"

"But he's eighty-five and doesn't even play golf anymore,"
protested Jack.

"But he's got perfect eyesight. He could watch your ball,"
Tracy pointed out.

The next day Jack teed off with Scott looking on. Jack swung,
and the ball disappeared down the middle of the fairway.
"Do you see it?" asked Jack.

"Yup," Scott answered.

"Well, where is it?" yelled Jack, peering off into the distance.

"Uh......I can't remember."

A mother and baby camel are talking one day when the baby camel asks, "Mom why have I got these huge three toed feet?"
The mother replies, "Well son, when we trek across the desert your toes will help you to stay on top of the soft sand".

"OK" said the son. A few minutes later the son asks, "Mom, why have I got these great long eyelashes?"

"They are there to keep the sand out of your eyes on the trips through the desert", the camel mother answers.

"Thanks Mom" replies the son. After a short while, the son returns and asks, "Mom, why have I got these great big humps on my back??"

The mother, now a little impatient with the boy replies, "They are there to help us store water for our long treks across the desert, so we can go without drinking for long periods."

"That's great mom, so we have huge feet to stop us sinking, and long eyelashes to keep the sand from our eyes and these humps to store water, but... Mom?"

"Yes son?"

"Why the heck are we in the San Diego zoo?"

A life-long city man, tired of the rat race, decided he was going to give up the city life, move to the country, and become a chicken farmer. He bought a nice, used chicken farm and moved in. As it turned out, his next door neighbor was also a chicken farmer. The neighbor came for a visit one day and said, "Chicken farming isn't easy. Tell you what. To help you get started, I'll give you 100 chickens."
The new chicken farmer was thrilled. Two weeks later the neighbor dropped by to see how things were going. The new farmer said, "Not too well. All 100 chickens died." The neighbor said, "Oh, I can't believe that. I've never had any trouble with my chickens. I'll give you 100 more." Another two weeks went by and the neighbor stopped by again. The new farmer said, "You???re not going to believe this, but the second 100 chickens died too." Astounded, the neighbor asked, "What went wrong?"
The new farmer said, "Well, I'm not sure whether I'm planting them too deep or too close together."

When the store manager returned from lunch, he noticed his clerk's hand was bandaged, but before he could ask about the bandage, the clerk said he had some very good news for him.

"Guess what, sir?" the clerk said. "I finally sold that terrible, ugly suit we've had so long!"

"Do you mean that repulsive pink-and-blue double-breasted thing?" the
manager asked.

"That's the one!"

"That's great!" the manager cried, "I thought we'd never get rid of that
monstrosity! That had to be the ugliest suit we've ever had! But tell me. Why is your hand bandaged?"

"Oh," the clerk replied, "after I sold the guy that suit, his guide dog bit me."

An old woman is riding a crowded bus and has to stand with her heavy packages. Finally, someone in front of her gives up a seat and so she grabs it.
"Thank God," she says.
A man in the seat behind her says "Excuse me comrade, but this is an atheist society. You should say 'Thank Stalin,' not 'Thank God.'"
"Of course you are right," the old woman says. "Thank Stalin." She is silent for a moment, then says: "Comrade, I have just had a terrible thought:
What shall we say when Stalin dies?"
The man behind her replies "In that case I think we can say 'Thank God.'"

Good morning everyboomie. welcome

I'm under the gun again. I always wait too long to start these early rise post. slapforehead

I should be in bed already, but heck it won't even be dark for over an hour and a half. smirk

I need to get one of those mask to black out the light.

Either that, or I get one of those area bi-locations for my room. You know the thing in Poltergeist. eek

"CAROL ANN GO TO THE LIGHT." grin

I may remain bi-located. zombie

I think I need moon glasses. cool

Every time I hear a kid screaming at work I think, that's exactly how I felt when my alarm went off at 3:30. NOOOOOOO! cry

Have a happy day everyone.

Don't play with the light Joe. shame A room darkening shade would be a better alternative.

Watching TV puts me to sleep. The only time I watch is in bed and then it's lights out for me. lol

Have a happy day!

I have work in the morning, then a doctor appt and then meeting daughter at the river after my appt to run all four dogs. After that it's a grocery run and cleaning.

Happy hump day everyone!

Joe, you must be a natural night person. I can relate. grin Hope you enjoy the moon glasses. lol

Ana, sounds like you have a very busy day planned! Hope it all goes well. smile

Well, this is the first time in a long time I was able to get in on a post the night before. lol It is late Wednesday night for me (though, technically speaking it's Thursday, since it's past midnight). It's okay, though, since I'm off again tomorrow. yes

No real plans except for more singing practice. I was finally able to get in contact with my voice teacher via Facebook. She's been taking the summer off to be with her family, which is nice. So, I will probably resume lessons in late August/early September. That is, if I'm able to find her again at that time. lol

As for now, kitty version Venus (who is currently on my lap) and I are off to sleep. Hope everyone has a fantastic Thursday. summer

Quiet day...........so far. No cat fights and my neighbors live faaar away so I can't fight hahaha. However, that bugg'r Commander Buttons stayed away and hid for the rest of yesterday and all night and didn't come home until 8:30 this AM. And only after I had caaaaled and called. He ate 1 1/2 cans of Fancy Feast, drank water, meowed his thank you -he always does that- and sauntered off.

Lately we've had lovely mornings -cool and dark and humid. It would be worth getting up at 4 or so and enjoy. John Steinbeck called it the hour of the pearl. You can hear the 1st bird.

Well, off to Sudoku and then chores

Re: Thumping Thursday - 08/01/13 05:28 PM

The 'cat toupee' saga is over, I think. Last night Rags the feral mom finally shed her shell/cape/toupee. I found it plunked on my deck right near the food table. It probably weighed about 1/2 lb but looked much much heavier. So I took the chunk of fur and placed it in view of my 'critter cam' and sure enough, late that night one of the raccoons showed some interest in it. This morning, it was gone. Can't find it anywhere. So either the raccoon took it for a nice bedding material or to play with, or a possum has it for their little nest. Either way, Rags contributed to the environment and now she's running free and looks sleek and 'patchy'. Getting that fur off was a messy ordeal and she has long and short fur all over now. Looks funny. She also looks very tiny since she's mostly fur anyway. Happy kitty, happy me.

Too quiet around here this morning. Lots of cars gone early that usually are here all day. Not sure why unless they are all out shopping with the first of the month paydays. I'll know when I finally get out to shop. So nice to finally have some cash to spend. Was down to 7 bucks even after cashing in all my coins! Cutting it very close, but I refuse to take cash from my bank account or use a cash machine, etc. Only what I have on hand is what I use for the month. It's a game I play, sometimes badly. rotfl

Re: Thumping Thursday - 08/01/13 11:54 PM

Good afternoon boomies!

Busy day today but there was fun thrown in. yay I do not have poison ivy and the doc is sending me to the dermatologist to get a culture taken and she is calling CDC in the county of the race. There are hundreds of us with this and so far no real diagnosis. She wants to get to the bottom of it since three of her patients are involved.

I'm off to pick up my prescriptions to get rid of the itch.... catch you later!

Re: Thumping Thursday - 08/02/13 01:36 AM

Well I finally made it here! lol Been at an all day "tea party"!!! Actually I was needed to watch Abbi and her and I had an all day tea party as that is what she loves to do. Her and I took the dogs for a walk around the block and then she hopped into her wagon and we went for a walk on the trail!! I was hoping when we got back that she might nap but she had other plans.....tea party. lol

Hope that everybody has had a wonderfully lovely day!!

Ana I hope that your doc can get to the bottom of things. I know nothing of where the race was held but if there is a pond that you went thru that is a permanent pond, I don't know, but maybe duck lice????? duh Hope they find out soon and people can be cured.

Re: Thumping Thursday - 08/02/13 02:44 AM

Nan, it sounds like you had a full and probably exhausting day. lol I am glad you got some Abbi time in though. Kids are exhauting. grin

Swimmers itch (duck lice) is what a lot of the diagnosis was, along with poison ivy/oak/sumac, mites, chiggers, parasites and fungal and bacterial infections. The problem is as my doctor noted today is that a rash is a rash is a rash...they all pretty much look the same regardless the cause. The only way to be 100% sure is to get a culture so that is what I am going to do. It's definitely not poison ivy although some did get some along with other things. The only "water" thing we went through that was natural was a clean cold water fast running stream. The race is by Starved Rock and the area is all hills/cliffs/wooded. The mud pits were created with trucked in water and mud. That is where the likely source is. We crawled through a lot of mud. lol
