TGIF - 08/16/13 12:53 AM

Why do we have to wait for special moments to say nice things or tell people we care about them?
Randy K. Milholland, Something Positive Comic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Father came home from a long business trip to find his young son riding a brand new bike.
"Where did you get the money for that?" he asked. "It must have cost over 300 dollars!"
"I earned it hiking," replied the boy.
"Hiking??? Come on son, tell your Dad the truth. Nobody can make that sort of money hiking. Where did you Really get the cash from?"
"It's like I say, Dad. Every night when you were gone, Mr Johnson from the bank would come over to see Mom. He'd give me a 20 dollar bill and tell me to take a hike"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Eleven women were clinging precariously to a wildly
swinging rope suspended from a crumbling outcropping
on Mount Everest. Ten were blonde, one was a brunette.

As a group they decided that one of the party should let go.
If that didn't happen the rope would break and everyone would perish.

For an agonizing few moments no one volunteered.

Finally the brunette gave a truly touching speech saying she would
sacrifice herself to save the lives of the others.
All the blondes applauded.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A fellow finds himself in front of the Pearly Gates. St. Peter explains that its not so easy to get in heaven. There are some criteria before entry is allowed.
For example, was the man religious in life? Attend church? No? St. Peter told him that's bad.
Was he generous? give money to the poor? Charities? No? St. Peter told him that that too was bad.
Did he do any good deeds? Help his neighbor? Anything? No? St. Peter was becoming concerned.
Exasperated, Peter says, "Look, everybody does something nice sometime. Work with me, I'm trying to help. Now think!"
The man says, "There was this old lady. I came out of a store and found her surrounded by a dozen Hell's Angels. They had taken her purse and were shoving her around, taunting and abusing her.
I got so mad I threw my bags down, fought through the crowd, and got her purse back. I then helped her to her feet. I then went up to the biggest, baddest biker and told him how despicable, cowardly and mean he was and then spat in his face".
"Wow", said Peter, "That's impressive. When did this happen"?
"Oh, about 10 minutes ago", replied the man.
While attending a convention, three psychiatrists take a walk.
"People are always coming to us with their guilt and fears," one says, "but we have no one to go to with our own problems."
"Since we're all professionals," another suggests, "why don't we hear each other out right now?"
They agreed this is a good idea. The first psychiatrist confesses, "I'm a compulsive shopper and deeply in debt, so I usually overbill my patients as often as I can."
The second admits, "I have a drug problem that's out of control, and I frequently pressure my patients into buying illegal drugs for me."
The third psychiatrist says, "I know it's wrong, but no matter how hard I try, I just can't keep a secret."
Good morning everyboomie. welcome
My schedule has been changed due to the fact that my department manager's step-father passed away, so I've been asked to open today (Friday). duh
I think most of it will be overtime.
I'm getting this posted now of course, so I can hit the crib ASAP. pacify
There'll be no gaming tonight...... sad
Gotta have my beauty rest. summer
I found out yesterday that we bonused this quarter at work, AND, it was the maximum bonus to boot. That will mean an extra $700 or more in my paycheck, whenever it comes in a week or two. penguin
Of course after taxes it won't be quite that much, but it'll still be a good chunk. smirk
To celebrate, I'm going to buy my sister something she can ride.
A catapult.......... dance
Have a happy day everyone.
Good morning y'all.
Starting the day with laundry then sometime today, I need to go over to the college and register for orchestra. Rehearsals start next Monday. Some of the public schools have started already. Seems awfully early to me.
Another beautiful day, a repeat of yesterday. Feels more like early fall. Wow, I won't complain.
Have a great and wonderful day everyone.
Hiya Boomers, hope you are all keeping well!
Had a lovely day out yesterday with Diana and two of my sisters. Youngest sister doesn't keep good health so it was especially nice that she could join us. We did lunch (Chinese buffet), which we all enjoyed, then had a wee shopping spree! Got a couple of nice dressy tops to wear.
Today has been spent grocery shopping and replenishing cake stuff, ingredients and packaging. Glad that's over and done with for a while! I'll be busy from now up until the end of September cakewise, got a couple of challenging cakes coming up that I'm looking forward to tackling.
Will stop by whenever I can...have a great day guys!
Fantastic Friday ya'll puppy
We've been up since early morn, but steadily busy. Got son smoothied before he got out the door for work, spent an hour on the phone with daughter who is having a very sad day, took Keoki for a K-laser treatment and got to pet 2 Great Danes and a black German Shephard and an adorable puppy while there. Then off to wander-walk Keoki, home to swap dogs, and back to the park for a more strenuous walk. Home to cut up a watermelon for lunch and start the rice for dinner, and now Finally, a chance to say "hi."
I think the next couple of hours will be low key, until I need to go up and cook. Very grey and solid overcast outside. Soot and I were "spit upon" a bit while walking which felt good. We are only supposed to hit the mid 80's today which is very cool for Aug. happydance
Joe, welcome home.
Ana, I can just see you playing on the monkey bars. Have fun.
Manx, hope your day is wonderful. I love your quote.
Haroula, wave
Cailyn is the campground full?
Gerry, will you be out to enjoy the weather?
Venus wave
Gail, how goes the summer?
Connie, are you guys getting the cooler weather too?
Bets, seems early to me too. They actually passed a law last year that no AL public school could start before Aug 15 as start times have been earlier each year. Some schools were starting on Aug 3 before that.
Happy skooshing, Darlene.
Mary, those challenging cakes sound intriguing. Will you be taking pics to share.
Nan, what's up for you and Sassy today?
Re: TGIF - 08/16/13 08:45 PM
Wisps of autumn outdoors -cool mornings and get this, only up to 95 this afternoon. Wednesday morning the 4 cats and doggy and I went walking in the back woods -Oh so nice. We all came back home except ShemerBaby and I had to leave for a haircut and worryworry. Haircutter lady assured me he would be back when I got home and she was so right. But if he ever does that again I'll still worry.
I had bought a large butternut squash which was too much for 1 person so today I made squash soup with the remnant and it turned out really good. It's like a thin smoothie. L4L, google says kale can be used for smoothies. That would be healthy because kale is nutritious. I eat it raw in salads -never cooked. Gosh I miss my garden.
On to the games. I really like Devil May Cry 5 and Sniper Elite V2, in fact I bought a DMC 5 guide and it came today -Yippee. As for the sniper one -gonna look around amazon for more games like that one. Sniper game is exhausting for me because I'm thinking all the time and on bad days I get really beat up.
Happy Friday all
Afternoon/eve all. Woke at 3:30, let the dogs out and had to go out with them to cool off. It was so hot inside and that's what woke me up. Then didn't want to go back to sleep lest I miss a 10 a.m. meeting. So am typing with eyes only half open and my neighbor invited me over for ice cream. Think I'll try to get a raincheck...but almost forgot wrestling is on tonite...oh dear...off to ponder this situation but in the meantime may all have a relaxing Friday eve.
Boys are here but son took them to a friend's house as he is watching her kids so she can work tonight.
Soot and I just enjoyed a very delicious chicken and rice salad topped with a no fat added guacamole and a side of toasted homemade sourdough bread. Now we are going to play for a few minutes and then go to bed and read.
Hi all. I know I'm late in checking in today. I worked this morning, then I didn't feel good at all so I've been taking it easy the rest of the day. I hope you all had a good day today. L4L I love bread and butter pickles also. I remember when we had our garden I put up 85 jars of bread and butter pickles. A lot of work but very worth it. Those were the days.
Have a good rest of the night. I'm gonna get to bed early tonight, hoping I feel better in the morning.
Re: TGIF - 08/18/13 12:26 AM
It's been a busy day. Went to thrift store and when they brought out the latest 'cart' of stuff (we all follow and grab what we can) I was standing right next to it. Some crazy lady DOVE in front of me at my feet and started loading her arms with some lovely looking china. By the time she was done, she had about 30 or 40 plates stacked on her arms and hands. I STRONGLY resisted the urge to kick her (she actually pushed me away to get to the 'stuff'). Very very rude people sometimes. I wasn't going to fight her for rights to what I was actually reaching for as she dove and grabbed.
This was about 11 am. Store opens at 10 am and her cart was already full at 11. So I decided to go back at 2:00. She was STILL THERE! Her cart now had most of a set of 12 china pieces. She waited to get more pieces since they seem to put out parts of things all day and throughout the week. Nothing seems to be in 'sets'. So I followed her around, hoping to make her feel nervous, but she was so absorbed in her 'grabbing' that I don't think she noticed. When I left at 2:45 pm she was STILL there. Geez! The phrase 'get a life' comes to mind. I'm guessing she has a store or ebay store to sell the things she was collecting. Lots of beanie babies, and little ceramic stuff among her haul. Hope I never see her again or the devil in me might just make me do something I wouldn't be proud of...then again, it sure would make me feel good! devil
