Is this SMS??

I looked up SMS - Short Message Service in Wikipedia and frankly got confused so here's my question:

When you see "text abcd to 66687" is this SMS?

If not, what is that called and also then what is SMS (in simple terms please)?

Just replace the word SMS with text message.

All it means is a message sent from cell phone to cell phone, in other words, a text message.

L4L, Kilo = thousand Mega = millions.

But it's not JUST a text message.

Text messages between cell phones are sent to a phone number with 11 digits.

In order to send a text message to a "shortened" number, your service provider has to support it.
It is this service that I was looking for a name.

Yes, that is SMS.

Most if not all providers will allow this now. If your phone does not, you can usually either change a setting on your phone to accept it or call your provider to activate.
