I love that line from the mini episode "I'm a Doctor, but probably not the one you're expecting." Perfect intro.

I've added a few more videos to original post.

I'm waiting for the NEW guy!, but the special should be awesome with all the Drs from the past. Can't get enough!

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 11/16/13 03:51 AM

They could of course be lying, but the Doctors from the original series all claim they're not included.

The mini episode was a surprise, the Doctor actor did manage to keep his role in it a secret.

Christopher Eccleston was apparently asked but declined.

The Christmas Special which will introduce Peter Capaldi will apparently include the Cybermen.

EDIT:
Every year since its return Doctor Who takes part in Children In Need telethon with a mini episode. This years episode is a teaser for the anniversary special The Day of the Doctor: A Preview - BBC Children in Need: 2013

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 11/18/13 07:49 AM

Rumor going around that Peter Jackson will be directing a future episode of Doctor Who. He is a fan, picked former Doctor, Sylvester McCoy to be in The Hobbit films.

Hard to keep up with all the new stuff. Found another vidoe: Strax Field Report: Queen Elizabeth - note: Sontarans are a race of clones, they have no females so Strax is always confusing young women with boys. Apparently long long ago a Sontaran warrior had himself cloned and he and his clones wiped out all the other of of his kind, including all the females.

EDIT: Steve Moffat likes to confuse fans. In a recent interview he acknowledged that the Doctor can regenerate 12 times, which would make Peter Capaldi the last Doctor, but then said to check your DVDs as we missed something. In any case, its possible that when Matt Smith's Doctor regenerates in the Christmas Special (which BTW has already been filmed) that he will be terrified believing it to be his last.

I'll be interested to see how Clara reacts to a new Doctor. In "The Name of The Doctor" see saw all the past Doctors but not the future one.

Also wonder how Capaldi's Doctor and River Song will react to each other. She supposedly has pictures of all the Doctors in her diary. But this older version of the Doctor will actually look older than the last version she actually knew did.

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 11/19/13 06:43 AM

It's amazing how time flies when you're with the doctor. I have the 21st anniversary special book called Doctor Who: The Key to Time - A Year-by-Year Record by Peter Haining. It was published in 1984.

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 11/19/13 07:28 PM

You have to remember at one time the Dr died, actually died. And it was River who gave up her regenerative powers so that the Dr could live again. So if the Dr has been give more regenerative power then the limit of 12 lives might have gone out the window.

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 11/20/13 01:34 AM

That's one of the theories. But it was never stated how many she had left and how many it took to cure him and restore his regeneration ability.

Another theory is that the change from Patrick Troughton to Jon Pertwee having been forced on the Doctor by the Time Lords wasn't actually a regeneration. That would only add 1 though.

Now there's a rumor that Matt Smith may have a role in the next Star Wars film.

Since I don't have access to BBC America I have to avoid any sites that might spoil the anniversary special after tomorrow, until I receive the DVD in December.

Doctor Who: The Last Day mini episode - probably the last prequel to The Day of the Doctor

The Day of the Doctor 3D is having a second showing in theaters Monday night, including one locally. I ordered my ticket online.

EDIT: Just got back from The Day of the Doctor. Enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting

a cameo by the Peter Capaldi Doctor or Matt Smith's Doctor to meet Tom Baker. That scene has some people confused. Since of course its Tom Baker now, white hair, not Tom Baker 1970s curly brown hair.

The 3D effect actually worked. At on point I ducked because an explosion sent a piece of metal flying at my head smile

Before the 3d theater version of The Day of the Doctor, there was a short film featuring Strax explaining what happens to criminals who use their communication devices or talk loud during the film. Then a short film in which Matt Smith welcomes the audience to the 100th Anniversary Special featuring all 57 Doctors. When corrected he apologizes for confusion as he just came from the future. After the film there was a short making off special.

A couple of short video clips that appeared on November 23rd before the special aired:

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 11/27/13 01:03 AM

There are online articles that claim to quote Steven Moffat as saying the 12 regeneration limit placed by the original series still stands, as of now and that David Tennant actually used two up, one wasted when he drained the energy into his severed hand. This makes Matt Smith Doctor #13. So the Christmas special will have to explain how there can be another Doctor.

Now this is interesting, on the BBC the November 23rd broadcast of the Day of the Doctor was second most watched program. While on BBC America it was its most watched program ever.

Monday nights theater version was number 2 in US after The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. At my local theater only the Day of the Doctor had lines. So I'd say it beat Hunger Games locally.

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 11/28/13 07:24 AM

I don't access to any channels which would have run the anniversary edition. Perhaps one day our PBS station will, the station which airs the regular Dr Who episodes. Or if/when it comes out on DVD.

I got interested in Dr Who when Tom Baker was the doctor. Saw most when Peter Davison was the doctor then none until David Tennant. I personally think Matt Smith's portrayal comes very close to Tom Baker's portrayal.

SPOILER from the end of the Day of the Doctor. From the BBC Youtube channel. This is an actual scene from the end of the 50th Anniversary special, setting up the direction of the next season after Matt Smith is gone. As I sat watching this in the theater, I knew what he was going to say and whispered the word to myself. It makes sense to me. The Doctor goes full circle.

Matt Smith apparently wishes he hadn't left. And according to this his Doctor in some time before the Christmas special will phone Clara in the future because he some how knows she's upset about his changing.

Also if you haven't seen the regeneration the BBC has a video clip of the last few seconds

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 02/14/14 07:05 PM

I just started watching Doctor Who last year. I have been taping all the programs... fortunately for me BBC shows a couple of reruns early almost daily and I have been taping... I really like Matt... too bad they can't think of a way to regenerate him to a regenerated Matt.. just saying :-)

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 02/14/14 09:48 PM

i agree with you Winfrey. Matt was my favorite.

I'm guessing he left because being a young actor he didn't want to get type cast???

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 02/17/14 11:40 PM

Apparently the next season was originally NOT going to have Daleks in it since they were so important to both the 50th Anniversary and Christmas Specials, the plan waas to give them a rest, but Peter Capaldi who is actually a life long fan of Doctor Who and who's dream was to do battle against the Daleks talked them into adding Daleks.

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 02/23/14 07:35 PM

I just started watching doctor Who this year, thanks to BBC Canada steaming and Netflix. Apparently here in Canada we can get it on the Space channel, but despite having premium cable service, there are no shows being aired anywhere right now. Netflix finished at the end of Season 7 Part 1(The Snowmen), so I've purchased the rest of the season from iTunes.
Needless to say, I love the series. Thanks for the links in this thread, I've been watching all the mini-episodes and extras I can find.

Re: Doctor Who: 50th Anniversary - 03/09/14 06:22 PM

Spoilers for new series season 8:

Click to reveal..
During her first adventure with the new Doctor, Clara, who doesn't trust him, receives a call on her cell phone from Matt Smith's Doctor, who's in the middle of regenerating. He tells her that as much as she is scared about the regeneration, the new Doctor is even more so. After the call she will hug the new Doctor. Clips of the filming can be found on Youtube, though the audio is poor, can barely hear the voices.

In an episode titled "Ghost of Pompei" the Doctor will learn why he looks like some one he (DT's Doctor) met there once. The fact that Peter Capaldi appeared in Doctor Who before being the Doctor isn't being ignored but is explained. Said to be a cameo by a "fan favorite".

At the other end of the series, rumor has it that the Doctor finds Gallifrey in episode 11 and the Master returns in episode 12, with a new face too.
