Years ago there was a 1 hour TV thing where the young lady is blind and she outsmarts the intruder. It was a good suspensful 1 hour. But it was many years ago.

No, the movie was based on a screen play. Wait Until Dark was what I thought of too, but it doesn't meet the criteria of having also been a book.
