rawhide dog treat question

how do you get the dog to eat them my dog ate them before now she doesn't.

I don't think they are great for your dogs so I'd be happy they weren't eating them. Try giving her a baby carrot or other veggie instead.
They are like people, we change our tastes, she may have too.

I don't like any kinds of chews for dogs~ I bought these chews from my co-op store and my dog ended up getting a sliver from the rawhide chew stuck in her throat and it got infected! I buy her Millkbones with real bone marrow in them she LOVES them! Doc

I no longer give my dogs those rawhide chews any more either. I found out how many chemicals they have to treat them with to get rid of the "dead meat" smell. Before they are treated, they smell just like, well... a dead cow. Plus, one of my dogs also got a chunk caught in her jaw. The very best thing you can do for dog treats is to make your own. My nephew makes them and even my dog who would never eat treats because of some abuse in his past loves them. Just Google home made dog treats.

My nephew even got two sizes of bone shaped cookie cutters. He makes two different kinds - one uses peanut butter and one uses apples. My dogs love both of them. Mason is 12 and sells some - mostly to me! - to earn a little spending money and once every couple of months, they take huge bags of them up to the local Humane Society and then spend time cuddling dogs and cats. I couldn't do that though... I'd want to bring them all home. I'm fairly safe working down at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch because I told hubby to take down all my fencing so I wouldn't be tempted to bring a horse home! So far, it's only been a few chickens.

my dogs don't like Peanut butter Welll I don't know if Bruno does? I've only had him a couple months now~he was a rescue he's very hyper he would prolly love them! he eats anything!

We ALL need a horse, Doc! I came close with a couple of the miniature horses, but luckily someone adopted them before I succumbed to their charms...

We already have a hard time getting someone to take care of all our critters when we leave to go visit my family in NW Iowa. That's why I get my "horse fix" down at Longmeadow a couple of times a week. Shoveling horse poo is a great equalizer!

I make these for my 3 dogs and they love them.

Beef Liver Dog Treats

Ingredients:
•1 pound beef liver (calf liver is preferred)


Instructions:
1.Preheat oven to 200° F
2.Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
3.Cut liver into strips about 1/4 inch thick.
4.Space pieces of liver on sheet pan so they are not touching (see note below regarding Spacing).
5.Bake for 2 hours, rotating the pan after one hour.
6.Let cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
7.Lift the parchment paper off the sheet pan and place on the wire rack to allow the liver training treats to cool completely and dry out on the bottom.


Storing & Yield - These liver dog treats will last for two weeks in the refrigerator. You can freeze them for four months. For more information on storing homemade dog treats, be sure to review our tips and techniques.

The yield really depends on how small you make each training treat. It also depends on how often you have a training session. Just keep in mind that since liver has a unique smell for your dog, a small piece will pack a rewarding flavor punch.

Tips & Techniques

1.Cutting Liver - Cutting liver can get tricky as it is very soft. To make things easier, especially since this is an easy dog treat recipe, freeze the package of liver. Then let it thaw for a few minutes on the counter. Sharpen your knife and cut the liver into strips while it is still frozen. It will continue to thaw while you handle it and before it goes into the oven.


2.Spacing - Even though the liver will shrink, it spreads out a little before it gets thinner. So the more space you can allow between each piece the better. Actually this is one time that the picture above is a good example of what not to do. Although the treats came out great, I had to tear them apart. If possible, leave about a 1/4 inch between each piece.


3.Parchment Paper - It's not necessary, but it makes things easier after baking, if you cut the paper to fit your sheet pan. Then the paper will not be curling and getting in the way of the liver.


4.Oven Temperature - This recipe is a great time to use an oven thermometer. You can easily check for the accurate temperature and adjust accordingly.


5.Texture - You are looking for a jerky or flexible texture with these liver treats. They will be slightly spongy in the center, but with a firm outside.


6.Cooling - It's important to let the dog training treats cool off of the sheet pan. The liver will be slightly moist underneath, and it needs the opportunity to dry out.

I also DONOT give my dogs any rawhide products... In fact they only get milk bone treats and like Ana said I give them carrots ..
