Warning.....Scam! - 03/24/15 09:47 PM

My daughter was going to do something on my pc and don't know what she clicked on but we got this warning supposedly from Microsoft Essentials that my pc had been infected by a virus making everything vunerable on my pc. My daughter could not do anything on the pc, it was locked up. There was a number to call.
So I called the number.............bottom line. He wanted me to put "logmein" in the run box then gave me a code and I was to download something that would have remotely access my computer. Then it clicked and I refused and got off the phone.
So, watch out for this one!

Microsoft will not give you a number to call. That's not how legitimate virus detectors work. Glad you stopped it before it's too late but be aware they now have your phone #.

The fact that they have the phone number doesn't really concern me unless you know a reason I should be concerned.

If they have a phone number, there is a lot they can find out about you. Your number will probably be sold a gazillion times to other scammers, so beware.

There is a reason you got this message on your computer. Run all your security scans starting with Malwarebytes. This is one of those that would make me immediately turn my computer off the second I saw it and then reboot.

Wow! It's always someone trying to scam us. I think I got that same message last week, big orange box on screen that said I had a virus etc. I didn't even read it, I just shut down my computer and rebooted. The warning was gone, I ran malwarebytes and found 15 items that were 'suspicious'. Deleted those and no more strange 'messages'.

EXCEPT, the one that said I had accessed a pornographic site and did I 'really' want to continue? Again, big orange box on screen, did the same reboot and that's gone too. Nothing on my virus scan, but I had been 'surfing' lots of things I thought were OK. I think the one that did it was something on my browser that I thought was my usual 'favorite'. Wasn't of course, just something that led me to the porno. Now if ex hubby was here, he would have hit the continue button in a second...ha.

We ran malwarebytes as soon as I realized there was a problem with the call, it found nothing. My daughter said she had put www.google in the bing browser and clicked on something but realized it wasn't google official site after it was done. I'm always getting calls from numbers I don't reconize, Do Not Call List was a joke, and I opt not to answer them. Exactly what I need....more calls!
