Usually recipes tell you to measure crumbled up potato chips.
It's a way of using the small pieces at the bottom of the bag.
I don't think the kind matters, unless you're on a low salt diet where you'd want to use unsalted or low salt potato chips.

I don't bother to measure them. I just crumble up the pieces in the bottom of a couple bags of chips and put it on top of the tuna casserole. I use whatever is in the pantry - doesn't really matter unless like Jenny says, someone can eat they salty ones.
