TGIF - 08/05/16 02:43 AM

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

HENRY S. HASKINS

`````````````````
Impossible Questions
Preparing my son for his first day of kindergarten, we were reviewing numbers and counting. Suddenly he asked, "What is the biggest number in the world?"
As briefly as possible, I tried to explain the concept of infinity. I thought I had done pretty well, but then he said, "Dad, what number comes just before infinity?"
``````````````````````

Understanding the Message
During weekly visits to my allergist, I’ve noticed a lot of inattentive parents with ill-behaved children in the waiting room. So I was impressed one day to see a mother with her little boy, helping him sound out the words on a sign.

Finally he mastered it and his mother cheered, "That’s great! Now sit there. I’ll be back in 15 minutes."

What did the sign say? "Children must not be left unattended."

`````````````````````````````
Young Competitor
As a professor at Texas A&M, I taught during the day and did research at night. I would usually take a break around nine, however, calling up the strategy game Warcraft on the Internet and playing with an online team.
One night I was paired with a veteran of the game who was a master strategist. With him at the helm, our troops crushed opponent after opponent, and after six games we were undefeated. Suddenly, my fearless leader informed me his mom wanted him to go to bed.
"How old are you?" I typed.
"Twelve," he replied. "How old are you?"
Feeling my face redden, I answered, "Eight."
`````````````````````````

Fruity Fragrance
After years of using the same perfumes, I decided to try something different and settled on a light, citrusy fragrance. The next day I was surprised when it was my little boy, not my husband, who first noticed the change. As he put his arms around me, he declared, "Wow, Mom, you smell just like Froot Loops!"

```````````````````````````
Jail Time
My older son loves school, but his younger brother absolutely hates it. One weekend he cried and fretted and tried every excuse not to go back on Monday. Sunday morning on the way home from church, the crying and whining built to a crescendo. At the end of my rope, I finally stopped the car and explained, "Honey, it’s a law. If you don’t go to school, they’ll put Mommy in jail."
He looked at me, thought a moment, then asked, "How long would you have to stay?"
`````````````````````````

Sick Day
My son, age 13, was sick in bed with bronchitis, and although he showed some general improvement, his harsh cough persisted and could be heard all over the house. Worried, too, that he was missing so much school, I went into his room to see how he felt.

There he was, propped up in bed, earphones on, listening to a baseball game—while the tape recorder coughed on and on. The next morning he was in school.

```````````````````````````
Trouble Focusing
Nothing seems to dim my 13-year-old son’s sense of humor. And he’s certainly not above being the butt of his own joke. Shortly after he was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD), he threw this at me: "Hey Dad—how many ADD children does it take to change a light bulb?"
"I give up," I said.
"Let’s go ride our bikes."
````````````````````````````

Virtual Perspective
I overheard my nine-year-old son on the phone with a friend discussing a computer simulation game. The game involved creating a family, a house for them to live in, and so on. My son, an old hand at the game, gave this warning: "Whatever you do, don’t get kids. They don’t bring in any money, and all they do is eat."

````````````````````````
Good morning everyboomie. welcome
It's still 95 degrees here at 8:30, or so it says on Weather Channel. shocked
The next 4 days are 100/101/100/102, and then it gets hot. lol
One things for certain, it ain't because "my future's so bright". cool
On the 31st of August, my sister's 63rd birthday, we get all the way down to 88 degrees, for the first time since my 28th birthday. Well it seems that long. rolleyes
Thank God for this weather though because, I didn't have anything else to talk about. woot
Now, what to talk about tomorrow. headscratch
Have a happy day everyone. wave2
Morning! (A really early one)
I can't go to sleep yet, cause I found a new game today. Elder Scrolls Legends. They have open beta testing, so I tried it. Haven't played much of these card games or what they're called, but I really like it so far.
I try to forget that we are in the middle of changing furniture and having to clean a lot, so a new game is good! lol
I did beat the heat today Gail. I got up and mower the yard and took the girls for a walk in the park, all before the sun came out. bravo
That's because we have low clouds, and lots of humidity this morning. razz
I did'nt trim the yard, but that's ok I can do that later. I'm glad to be done mowing. hamster
Joe, remember, if you get really bored, you can always swing by your old 'workplace' and torment the guys who are still working and tell them how great it is to be retired. Always worked for me. joy2
Re: TGIF - 08/05/16 11:43 PM
Goodness, Darlene, you guys must be so excited!
Welcome home, Space. wave
Had fun shopping. I had not been in that store in years! Son carried it all in and the boys helped me put away. Then they went to the park and I worked on pizza for dinner. Tonight was Cully's choice and that was what he wanted. Only a g'son could get me to heat the oven up that high for that long in this heat. I made the shells and the sauce. Son is topping them and finishing them up so they look like Angry Birds.
Then we'll have Cully's cake and ice cream and finally, I'll Collapse. I had a short night last night as Keoki was inadvertently kicking Lil Soot's cage while running in his sleep which spooked both Lil Soot and Seagan. I had a very interrupted night (part of it with Seagan on my head) and am looking forward to bed and a book, or maybe bed and the tv. wavegirl
Re: TGIF - 08/05/16 11:57 PM
So, I had an interesting morning. I'm taking the train to Chicago to spend the afternoon with my son and I'm buying my ticket. The ticket guy says to the lady behind me that unless she's buying my ticket, she needs to give me some personal space. He repeated himself a couple times and she backed up a bit. I gave it no thought until I reached the train platform and adjusted my backpack and camera case and noticed she unzipped two pockets of the camera case and opened my backpack. I am usually a very hyper sensitive person on both personal space and on feeling anyone touching near me. I am completely dumbfounded that she was able to do all that in the short time I was paying for my ticket. Fortunately I wear a runners belt and that is where anything of value was and I was holding my IDs and cards in my hand.
Looks can be very deceiving because she is a very groomed, smartly dressed died blond with a thick Russian accent woman in her 50's.
She didn't get anything from me so not much I can do, but she walked up a few trains to sit where I am. I moved to the upper deck where the single seats are and I'm watching her. I know they say pick pockets are smooth and fast but darn! I feel like a fool because I never noticed anything!
On another note I had a great afternoon and I'm home safe and sound. joy
Darlene, how exciting!!
Re: TGIF - 08/06/16 01:01 AM
Ana, eek. That's why I keep my valuables in my bra....pretty sure I'd feel that rotfl Glad she didn't get anything.
Posted By: BrownEyedTigre
Re: TGIF - 08/06/16 01:40 AM
SpaceQ, no, because she didn't get anything and I didn't realize until we were on the train platform. She even chatted with me on the platform after it and I still had no idea. I still can't get over the fact she opened stuff without me knowing.
Are you ready to relax for the weekend?
L4L, mine is tight to my body on a belt and in the front. I carry mace though and she saw me put it in my hand when the train pulled into the station. She took off fast!
