Chayote Squash - 08/30/16 01:41 AM

Anybody ever eat this? I think I've had it before but can't remember for sure. I had my brother pick some up for me and while looking online at some recipes I saw a comment from somebody that it made their hands peel. I am cooking one now. My fingers, mostly the little one have swelled up from holding/peeling it and it feels a little numb. Makes me wonder what it might do to my insides.

Also, I'm afraid to touch my cat!

My family and friends use it in cooking a lot.
I have picked and cooked with them too and didn't have any hand peeling incidents.
Granted, I use the larger ripe ones. It is great in soups.

It's possible to be allergic to anything, but it has healing properties and has many good uses. I've eaten it but don't buy it regularly. If you suspect you are allergic, I'd stay away. As a general rule though, it's very healthy and good for you.

I've never been allergic to anything but I admit I'm nervous to eat it. If it can make my fingertips swell/blister and numb, I'm afraid it could do the same inside of me somewhere.

I actually am sure I've had it before. I remember eating the seed. But it's been a long time.

Thank you for your replies.
