Surgery Tomorrow!

Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/18/16 09:39 PM

Well, after much detective work and a mistake by a radiologist, they have finally figured out why I am forming blood clots and why I had those pulmonary embolisms in July. To make a long tortured story short, I will be having surgery tomorrow at 4:00. I can't wait to have this over and done with, so am actually looking forward to it!

I will have my Surface tablet with me and hopefully by Tuesday afternoon I will have my wits about me enough to post some messages about how it went!

Re: Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/20/16 03:56 PM

I'm here! They tell me I am doing much better than they would expect for someone who had major surgery less that 24 hours ago. I'm up and about by myself and drinking my morning coffee right now! Of course, I'm sore as hell with 5 small incisions in my abdomen, but nothing I can't handle. I'll avoid the narcotics like plague if I can. I had a complete hysterectomy and a large mass removed. It doesn't look like anything according to the surgeon, but I will find out more about the pathology today. I will keep you posted, but I am feeling pretty good for an old broad!

I'm glad to hear you're doing well, Draclvr, and can enjoy your morning coffee.

I'm still curious what that "large mass" could be and whether it's responsible for the blood clots.

Re: Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/21/16 01:20 AM

Well, believe it or not, I'm home! I slept for a couple of hours and thought I was going to die getting up out of the bed with no railings! Think I need to get a small pillow to hold on my stomach.

Doctor says this is a marginal mass – not the right word, but I can’t think of it right now – which means it is not cancer, but may have cells which could become cancer. He will have a plan for what he wants to do when I go see him again in 2 weeks. He said this is something they even treat with chemo, but he will have to look a little deeper at what it is. And yes, Jenny, it is most likely the cause of the blood clots.

I guess he had quite a time during surgery. He had decided at the last minute to do it with laproscopy. This mass is way too big to get out that way, so he was going to “bag it” along with the ovary and pull out my vagina. But he couldn’t make it work, so he had to make two MORE incisions to get it out... so than makes 5 small incisions. The pain isn’t there though, but in my lower abdomen where he “assaulted me” getting everything out! I was in the OR for almost 3 hours, of course worrying Dave to death.

So now, it’s just time, time time...

Re: Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/21/16 01:34 AM

You're home. Oh my.
I was a week when I had mine.

Is it serous borderline tumor?

Rest rest rest...
Posted By: Draclvr

Re: Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/21/16 01:39 AM

That's it! Borderline - the word wouldn't pop into my head! Surgeon didn't seem to think it was, but he will be looking at it in more depth before I go back in 2 weeks.

Even if I would have had to open surgery, I would have only been in for 2 or 3 days. Since mine was laproscopy, he tossed me out in 1 day! They gave me a special abdominal block which was two injections in the lower layer of the skin which was supposed to help with the surgical pain. And it did - until it wore off this afternoon!

Re: Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/21/16 01:44 AM

OMG. Sounds horrible. This is why I just stay away from doctors. I could not go through that!

I can't believe you're home already. Please take it easy so you heal up!

Re: Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/21/16 01:45 AM

Ouch ouch ouch.
I wore a girdle for a long time afterwards. It did help.
Hugs - glad you're done now.

Re: Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/21/16 01:55 AM

I had three incisions for my appendectomy and remembering not to use your stomach muscles was murder! Two I didn't feel it at all but one he cut the muscle and it was quite painful. Rolling over to your side before you attempt to get up helps.

I'm glad its something treatable Drac, hopefully without chemo. Time to rest and heal. hearts

Goals for yesterday were trying to eat a little bit and to get a shower. Only managed a half a piece of toast and some cottage cheese, but by golly I got that shower! Baby steps, I guess!

Oldbroad, I couldn't imagine NOT going to a doctor for something so potentially serious!

Re: Surgery Tomorrow! - 09/22/16 06:30 PM

So glad you were able to have shower! know probably wore you out but maybe helped you rest and relax. I am not in this area often but today for some reason decided to visit. Glad I did! Please take care and try to eat what you can. There is a place a couple miles from me that my friend goes to sometimes and brings me soup. they make all kinds of soups and also homemade breads and rolls. I can no longer drive (can't make it to my car)and need someone to push a wheelchair for me if able to get out..but anyway back to the soup! It is so good and I am just blown away anytime she calls and tells me not to eat too early (dinner/evening meal) because she's bringing me soup! For her to take the time to do that for me just makes me cry each time but I truly appreciate it. It means a lot to have someone bring a hot meal because I cannot stand at stove more than just a few minutes-not even to 'stir fry'. grrr. did get a new 'toy' this year, an electric pressure cooker. like it. generally load it , set it and it just gets with it and also has a keep warm feature and will turn off in case I fall asleep I won't burn the food! But...it is heavy so you just can't put it our of the way then lift it out to use. since I use so much it has its own spot so I never have to move it. But if I have to I can move it....it is just not what I want to do because use it quite a bit.(more than I evern thought). I eat a lot of beans and make a lot of soups and rice. so is just so handy.
Please feel better soon. PS my best med is my little 13yr old 'pup. gives me a reason to get up in the morning!
Hugs to you!
