Not actually part of the 10th series/season Doctor Who Casualties of War - this is a video teaser for a collection of audio adventures featuring the War Doctor, it features late John Hurt's last time playing the War Doctor. What I found interesting is that Louise Jameson appears as an older version of Leela, companion to the 4th Doctor. Also a regular in this audio adventures is Jacquline Pearce, who played the main adversary of Blakes 7, Servilan, as a Time Lady who fights the Time War with or without the War Doctor. I haven't actually heard any of these. The only Big Finish Audio I have is the 8th Doctor's first adventure after the TV movie. Someday I may actually listen to it.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 03/09/17 04:37 AM

The Mondasian Cybermen, the original Cybermen from the planet Mondas rather than the new series Cybermen from an alternate universe will be in series/season 10 finale. These are the Cybrmen as they first appeared during William Hartnell's last story, except of course they're in color not b/w.

In the classic series Cybermen were humans from Earth's lost twin planet, Mondas, who transformed themselves into cyborgs and lost their emotions and their empathy for others. They have a very different, more primitive look the later Cybermen, because they were early in their history. Through out the original series they changed in appearance as the Doctors met them in later parts of their history.

New series Cybermen were originally humans from an alternate universe Earth. And like the Daleks are always saying "Exterminate" these new series Cybermen say "You will be deleted" (killed) or "You will be upgraded" (converted inro Cybermen).

One of the first cybermen (b/w)

The Mondasian Cybermen with Peter Capaldi's Doctor

New Doctor Who alternative universe Cybermen

Video showing how the CYbernmen have changed over the years

So classic series villains making a comeback: Movellans, Ice Warriors and Cybermen. And of course the Daleks.

I just learned that Kris Marshall is leaving "Death in Paradise". And the bookies have stopped accepting bets on his taking over the lead in "Doctor Who". Apparently they think he will replace Capaldi.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 04/04/17 08:35 PM

I trailer, which I don't have a copy of since it was on BBC 2. Ends with a brief clip of the Peter Capaldi's Doctor looking like he's in pain, and his hand beginning to glow. We know season 10 is his last. What we dont know is if he will regenerate and the end of the season/series which would either have the new Doctor appear in the Christmas special or would be a CHristmas special without a Doctor or there wouldn't be a Christmas special?

The actress playing "Bill" claims here character is "gay".

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 04/07/17 12:19 PM

Its been announced that both the John Simms version of the Master and Missy will appear in episode together. They can do that since the Doctor, the Master and the Mistress are all time travelers. Though crossing ones own time stream is dangerous.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 04/08/17 02:18 AM

I'll bet crossing one's own time stream is dangerous. wink Thanks for the info.
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 04/08/17 02:49 AM

In the original series the Doctor could only cross his own time stream to meet other versions of himself with the help of other Time Lords from Gallifrey. Or in the case of The Five Doctors being abducted by an evil Time Lord. Normally the TARDIS wouldn't do that.

In fact in one story Mawdred Undead, the 5th Doctor claimed that if a past and future version of a person met it could be a disaster. When the Doctor met a future version of the Brigadier he found him suffering from partial amnesia. Eventually he recognizes the Doctor but can't recall what caused the trauma. At the end of the story what happened is revealed. Two versions of the Brigadier met as a result of one being a stoeway in the Doctor's TARDIS. As a result an explosion rendered them both unconscious. It could actually have ripped a hole in the universe it didn't because stolen Time Lord tech absorbed the energy released. It was the two versions of the Brigadier meeting that caused the mental breakdown.

In the 50th anniversary special 3 versions of the Doctor met because another piece of Time Lord tech, a sentient weapon capable of causing a sun to go nova, brought the three together. Would have been 4, but the first actor to play the Doctor in the new series declined to take part.

Tax day in America, April 15th.

All kinds of rumors from the first Doctor making an appearance with either someone who looks like William Hartnell or CGI, to there will actually be 3 or 4 versions of the Master, with someone who looks like Roger Delgado or CGI allowing the original Master to join Missy and the Simms version. Apparently there is a Big Finish multi master audio story.

Sorry to hear that.
I am enjoying the new companion dynamic. I like Bill, and the fact that she has a 'normal' relationship with the doctor, uncomplicated by shifting timelines like the more recent companions. Capaldi is my favorite Doctor since Tennant, and I will be sad to see him go. The current rumor is that Kris Marshall is to be the 13th Doctor. Personally, I am not a fan, but I like Bill so much, if they keep her, it will soften the blow.

So who's locked in the vault? Missy?

Few posts back I mentioned that the bookies have stopped accepting bets on Kris Marshall becoming the Doctor. They must be sure he's got the part.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 05/03/17 07:58 AM

Though it's not been perfect, I certainly feel this has been a lot better than last season which, frankly, was pretty awful most of the time (IMHO of course!). I like the different dynamic with the new companion - especially the fact that she inconveniently blurts out massive plot / logic flaws! - and I like Mark Gatis' character too. The Doctor himself seems to be regaining some humanity, which is good as I found Capaldi's carnation quite alienating at times (yes I realise the irony of that statement!). Interested to see how the story arc continues.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 05/11/17 07:30 PM

All kinds of theories as to who is in the vault:

Missy
The Master (because Missy is really the Rani pretending to be the Master)
The Valeyard (evil version of the Doctor from Trial of a Timelord)
Omega (from classic series)
The Doctor (because Peter Capaldi's character is actually an imposter)
The Doctor (a future version which for some reason the current version has imprisoned)
The Doctor (a past version which for some reason the current version has imprisoned)
The Doctor's granddaughter Susan
The Doctor's daughter Jenny
Missy's daughter
Rassilon
The Hybrid
Ashildr
Clara
Chris Chibnall (because Steven Moffat has changed his mind about leaving) :lol

If Clara is in the vault I might start watching again.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 05/14/17 05:31 AM

Looks like Missy will be in the next episode. Which makes me think she's in the vault.

According to Wikipedia episodes were produced out of order. The first 4 episodes were produced in order than it went out of sequence a bit. Last year's Christmas special was actually produced after the first 4 episodes of this season. "Oygen" (episode 5 which just aired) was actually produced with "The Eaters of Light" (episode 10). Then it goes back in order. Next week's episode "Extremis" (episode 6) was produced with "The Pyramid at the End of the World (episode 7). "The Lie of the Land" (episode 8) was produced with "The Empress of Mars" (episode 9). "World Enough and Time" (episode 11) was produced with "The Doctor Falls" (episode 12). Episodes 11 and 12 are only episodes officially counted as parts 1 and 2.

The Christmas special doesn't have a title yet.

Michelle Gomez leaving Doctor Who with Peter Capaldi. Missy won't be appear after season 10.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 05/21/17 04:36 AM

This is disturbing. Some fans think Peter Capaldi actually wanted to do another year but was actually forced out because he's not appealing to young women in the audience. They claim if you see him in person and ask him about leaving he just looks sad.

And I completely forgot to watch tonight but I DVR and will watch it (and The Blacklist) Sunday or Monday.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 05/22/17 04:07 AM

Disappointed the person in the vault is the obvious one. And this Doctor being blind thing is silly. He'll just regenerate new eyes when Capaldi leaves.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 05/26/17 02:24 AM

All existing Doctor Who episodes are being made available to China. The article claims up to series 15. Which unless that's a misprint that means Doctor Who is going to run for another 5 years. Apparently there's been rumors of cancellation.

The next episode is apparently going to be have some lines cut due to them referring to terrorist attacks in England.

The Doctor Who spinoff Class ratings are bad, so its probably not getting a second series.

Next week soldier from Victorian England somehow end on Mars where they foolishly think tbey can take on The Empress of Mars. As the Doctor says they "don't stand a chance against the Ice Warriors". Earth in 2017 wouldn't stand a chance against an Ice Warrior invasion without the Doctor.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 06/06/17 10:41 AM

The story lines are much better and I like the way that the Doctor is being forced to rediscover his (for want of a better word) humanity - I felt he had really lost it last series. Also I like the new companions, Bill brings a refreshingly down-to-earth attitude to it all, while Nardole's dry wit and tendency to constantly challenge The Doctor's decisions, while at the same time remaining loyal to him, is really entertaining.

Hope you're enjoying it too looney!

I was disappointed that all we got of the Movellans in "The Pilot" was a cameo which made them look bad. I hope we get more out of the original Cyberman.

I still wish they'd spend less time on Earth. Mars is still in our system. They have an entire universe to play with and they insist on staying in our solar system. Hope new guy takes series to other worlds. And give us another non-human companion.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 06/11/17 03:09 AM

I was right its a prequel. Alpha Centuri is from classic Doctor Who.

Who was remote controlling the TARDIS? Missy? The Time Lords? The future Doctor?
Why does Missy ask the Doctor twice if he's alright?
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 06/11/17 07:33 PM

Fan theories as to why Missy was worried about the Doctor:

1) He was actually infected when he fireballed that lab and so he's dying (getting ready to regenerate)
2) He was actually shoot with a real bullet and so he's dying (getting ready to regenerate)

Fan theory considering the TARDIS:
1) The TARDIS senses the Doctor is dying and took Nardole to find the nearest other Time Lord, Missy to get him help
2) The Master (John Simms) remote controlled it as a way to get Missy out of the Vault
3) Nardole was only supposed to appear in the early episodes then be written out and they had nothing for him to do in this episode so the whole TARDIS taking him away is just a way to explain his not being on Mars with the Doctor and Bill.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 06/14/17 05:35 AM

John Simms will return as The Master on June 24th in "World Enough and Time" probably to start the events that will result in "The Doctor Falls".

Rumors:

1: David Bradley (played William Hartnell playing the Doctor in a BBC documentary) spotted in Cardiff supposedly with a script in hand. The assumption people are making is that they're filming the Christmas special and he's in it as the first Doctor.

2: The first of the last twp episodes is going to see a friend of the Doctor die. That would be Bill, Nordel or Missy. Missy wouldn't die she' just regenerate. I think its Bill. I've thought that since the first clip of Bill saying she'd go on this adventure "even if it kills me".

Rumor concerning next series/season: it may be one long story taking the entire series/season to tell. In any case new show runner is supposedly going to stir things up. They alwasy say that of course.

Big Finish Audio is going to feature Derek Jacobi as the voice of The Master in 4 audio adventures.
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 06/18/17 02:24 AM

Nordel got it wrong. The crew of the Mary Celeste jumped ship to escape being exterminated by the Daleks which had materialized on board, chasing the first Doctor through time and space.

Apparently the Ninth Legion did in fact disappear. The rest is total fiction. The best part of the episode is at the end. Do you believe Missy really wants to change? I think her sarcastic remark about an evil scheme is more likely the truth.

Next week the original Cyberman and John Simms Master.I didn't like the character so I'm not looking forward to that. Except it may be interesting to see how he reacts to learning his future self is a woman. The Doctors usually bicker.

Final episode of the season is going to be extended to an hour.
Posted By: GuybrushThreepwood

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 06/25/17 02:44 AM

That first scene is clearly a set up for the Christmas episode. As the rest of the episode is a flash back.

And anyone who's see classic Doctor Who knows we've already met The Master. He's just disguised.

I knew the instant he was on camera who the Master was.

Now Missy will have to make choose, her self in the form of the Master, or her friend the Doctor.

One thing, the Doctor never called himself Doctor Who. What William Hartnell said in response to Ian Chesterton calling him "Doctor Foreman" (because the TARDIS was in Foreman's junkyard) was "Who? Doctor who?". The Doctor didn't know who Ian was referring to. Its true that for most of the classic series the credits did list the characters as "Doctor Who" but they eventually fixed that to "The Doctor". Who was never his name it was always a question. Because he never actually said what his name was. Except Jon Pertwee's Doctor did when UNIT needed a name for their records claim his name was "John Smith". That was an obvious alias.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 06/28/17 02:13 AM

I'm avoiding articles and videos on Doctor Who in case they might spoil the final episode, the Christmas episode or who the new Doctor will be. I want to see the new Doctor when he appears in the episode. In fact I wish they'd stop announcing the Doctor is leaving. Just let us be surprised when it happens.

BTW apparently just about everyone involved in Doctor Who is leaving, so that when the guy from Broadchurch takes over next series/season he'll have almost entirely new cast and staff.

That reminds me I'm set to record final season of Broadchurch on BBC America. Its coming up tomorrow I believe.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 07/02/17 01:40 AM

Dang it. They changed the starting time. Fortunately the DVR had the correct time so its been recording. But I didn't know it was going to be on earlier. I thought I was turning the TV on early that I'd catch the last 25 minutes of the previous episode not be late to the last episode of the series/season. I knew it was a longer episode but I guess I thought it would run later not start earlier.

Click to reveal..
That line about being "The Doctor, the Original you might say" comes from the original Doctor, William Hartnell. So Capaldi was quoting his oldest version of himself while being attacked by a cyberman,

The final scene with Bill was too much like the final scene with Clara. Having the Doctor see past companions is what happened when Tom Baker regenerated into Peter Davison and when Peter Davison regenerated into Colin Baker. Nice touch, even if the regeneration hasn't been allowed to be completed yet.

Then at the end there that second person quoting the line about being the Original Doctor, is in fact the First Doctor, played by the same actor who played William Hartnell in a BBC documentary about him. History is repeating itself, The First Doctor didn't want to change and the now Capaldi's Doctor doesn't want to either. Of course by the end of the Christmas episode both will come to accept change. The funny thing is. the First Doctor regenerates after his first encounter with the Cybermen.

As for the Master. The Master has survived not being able to regenerate before. So even if Missy is never seen again at some point when somebody decides a new Master is in order, they'll come up with some reason why Simm's Master was wrong about Missy not regenerating. I think it was pretty stupid of Simm's Master wanting to murder himself just to spite the Doctor. Been then I've always thought this version of the Master was an idiot. I am not a Simms fan.

Now for 6 months I have to avoid anybody who would try to spoil the Christmas special for me, especially the ending in which we'll find out who the new Doctor is.

I've just watched series 10 episode 10 think on Danish TV. The one where the Doctor searches forthe lost 9th Roman Legion. And I have to say I'm very disappointed in the good doctor. He never has been one to make fun of anyone - but in this episode he did. Also he seemed to think that a woman could not fight a fight as good as a man. Also, the whole time I was reminded of this: The doctor had a plan to fight the enemy in this episode - but what about him working with the two sides (the other sides being the Picts) instead of him coming up with a plan trying to save everyone. But I'm mostly disappointed in the Doctor's attitude towards the Pict woman who was trying to save her tribe from the enemy - he never has done this before, I think - not as long as Peter Capaldi has been the Doctor.

The episode for those of you who haven't seen it yet is about the Doctor looking for the lost 9th Roman Legion. He, and Bill, meets up with the Picts, and the Romans. The Doctor,
when he meets the picts makes fun of the weapons that the Pict Guardian, a woman, is using to put the enemy, a monster from another dimension, back to its dimension. After the Picts and the Romans meet, the Doctor says something that gets them to work together - protecting the dimension door to where the monsters come from. And so the episode ends.

I have been waiting for some quiet time to watch the end of the season that I have PVR'd. So I just watched the last 4 episodes. Of course, the most interesting were the last 2, but I did enjoy the Roman Legion one.

I thought the way they handled the language barrier was a good reminder that the TARDIS has other benefits. And, when you hear someone speaking your language for the first time, they usually do sound like children trying out something new.

The 2 part finale was very good.

The time dilation aspect of the ship allowed for the full spectrum of cybermen models to be shown. I thought the earlier ones were much scarier. I am glad Bill got a happy ending. The Doctor finally found out he was a good man, and I think he wants to die this way. Not have to regenerate and learn the lesson all over again. That is why he is so reluctant to regenerate. I think he just wants it to end.

Re: Doctor Who series/season 10 - 07/10/17 01:57 AM

The why everyone in the universe seems to be speaking English first came up in a 4th Doctor (Tom Baker) and Sarah Jane Smith episode in which she suddenly recognized that the other people were probably speaking Latin and she didn't understand or speak it. And they wouldn't understand or speak English either. That entire scene with the Roman soldier was based on that classic series scene.

I tried but gave up on Dr. Who. Matt Smith was my favorite and Clara kept me through the early Capaldi cycle but this year with Bill was unwatchable for me.

The addition of Jodie Whittaker may be a game changer for me though. I loved her in Broadchurch and I will be tuning in to see her take over the role.
