Prayers to Californians - 12/11/17 12:53 AM

I just want to send some prayers to those in the line of the current fires of the last couple of weeks.

Sorta, are you okay? I haven't seen you post for a few days.

Looking at our online member info, Sorta was here online a few hours ago, so I will take that as a good sign that she is well away from the fires.

My prayers too go out to all the Southern Californians who are having to endure this.

Oh good Marian. I didn't look there. I know she had posted a few days ago in the Diner that there were a couple of fires near her area.

Re: Prayers to Californians - 12/11/17 04:32 AM

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Much appreciated and I'm sure it will help. Fires near me are about 20 miles North although little ones keep popping up to the East also. Our firefighters are all over the place hitting each fire hard and so far the only bad one is what they are calling the Lilac Fire. It burned from the highway (still don't know the actual cause) down the hill and took out about 25 mobile homes in a retirement community. No one hurt seriously and no deaths, but loads of total losses of everything they had. Then it progressed to a 'training farm' for horses, many race horses, and they lost 20 or more because they couldn't get them out of the barns/stalls fast enough. Awesome pictures of packs of horses running loose as they were just let go to run away from the flames. Sad stories there too. Makes me cry. One woman was seriously burned trying to save horses and was in a coma until yesterday. Praying she recovers.

Most of the worst is over, the fire is 60 percent contained and we still have firemen all over stationed on streets in case of flare ups or if the Santa Ana winds kick up again. The horrible way this spread was EMBERS blew on the winds starting spot fires miles away. Never knew where a fire would break out and burn a house or two and then another windy ember attack miles away from there.

All evacuations are now lifted and people are going home. Many don't have anything to go back to, but thanks to the firemen, Highway Patrol, local police, etc., they managed to get everyone evacuated just minutes before the fires reached their areas. Everyone did such a good job there. Some have nothing but the clothes they were wearing, some without even shoes, etc. Lots of new details every hour about losses, but only one death attributed to the fire when an elderly lady, fleeing in her car, crashed and died. So sad.

I'm relatively safe where I live. Although it's city, it's there is loads of empty land all around so we are always on the watch. Thanks again for the prayers.

All evacuations lifted here in San Diego County. Crews still out there watching for 'hot spots' but everything is trying to get back to normal. Schools reopened (all in the danger zone were closed since last Tuesday). Life goes on.
