Treasure Island 2010 - 02/28/10 10:51 PM

I had no problems installing this game...even played for awhile...The problem started when I exited the game & re-started...It came up with a message about a runtime error (something to do with 'showhotspots')...Has anyone else had this problem...Any hints as to how to solve it...I have already tried un-installing & re-installing...doesn't work...I even sent the game back for an exchange, but same thing happened with the second game...argggg

See if you can get the exact text of the error message.

Hi Dian,

I had the same problem last night. I installed the game and played for a while, saved and closed out. Later I went to resume the game and the same thing happened to me. However when I tried again this morning to get the error message for Jenny the game opened up and I'm currently playing. So try to open it up again you might have some luck and it will open. From past posts it seems others have had trouble with this one. Looks like another game where beta testing wasn't done in a rush to get it out the door. Oh for the old days where games were scrutinized before they were let out the door. As a side note, before I got my new computer I couldn't even install the game. I sent an email to TAC support and never got a response, this was about 3 weeks ago.

Regards,

Barry

Well, I think I must have somehow missed those days, Barry, and I've been playing games for a very long time !! lol lol

hi Jenny...These are the exact messages I get on my computer...
first: Stream: attribute 'Showhotspots' doesn't exist on node 'Profile'

second: Runtime Error
This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I actually did contact the manufacturer by email on their website...but it's been 3 weeks & they haven't replied as yet...doesn't give much hope..
Thanks for being interested...About now I'm guessing I have a game I'll never be able to play...sigh

hi Barry..

Thanks for the interest...at least I know I'm not crazy (well..at least not totally..lol)

I keep trying to get it to play, but nothing's working...Had the same experience with TAC support as you...

If I hadn't lost my mind long ago, I'd be upset...lol

I can't find that exact message with a Google or Bing search. I found something about attributes that had to do with XML code. I'm not sure, but 'Showhotspots' might have something to do with a hotkey that toggles showing hotspot locations on and off.

My guess is that your Windows or your antivirus prevented the game from saving your profile correctly when you exited after playing that first time. Or it may have prevented the game from accessing the profile when you restarted the game.

You can try restarting the game, like Barry did. It might help to reboot first (or it might not).

You can try uninstalling and reinstalling. But after you uninstall, make sure the game didn't leave a folder with a (corrupt?) configuration file behind.

Thanks Jenny...I had gotton to thinking along those lines myself..When I uninstalled I did look for a folder where saves might be kept...but oddly I didn't find one..This has got to be a tricky problem..I have already tried the reboot & that didn't work..I won't give up yet..lol

Well...finally got this game up & running...Jenny, you got me thinking about corrupt files...so when I couldn't find the save folder with the regular search, I did a search on the hidden files (can't believe I didn't think of that before !) Anyway...there they were in the hidden files..deleted them, reinstalled the game & it worked !!! Wow..hope the game is worth it..lol
Thanks Jenny...

I'm glad to hear you were able to find the folder with the corrupt files and get rid of them, and that your game is working now.

I don't think anyone at Gameboomers has that kind of power.
