GOG Question - 11/28/12 11:50 PM

I signed up, filled out all the info, put 9 games in the cart, clicked to buy, and sat there for over a half hour, and got NOTHING to tell me that I really ordered anything. ?????

The cart is still showing 9 games.

What did I do wrong?

It's hard to tell, granny. Did you send a message to the support at GOG to ask them what might have happened? They are very good at helping you out.

Re: GOG Question - 11/29/12 12:07 AM

If you have another browser (Firefox or Chrome) I'd give that a shot. I think I ran into a similar situation not too long ago, and the only way to complete the transaction was to use something other than IE.

Edit -

That's assuming you were using Internet Explorer smile

Re: GOG Question - 11/29/12 12:51 AM

After what you have done click on "My Account," and the games will be listed there. This is where you download. "My Account" will list all games that you have downloaded, and you can download again should it be necessary in the future.

I have never used IE so I do not know if this would be a problem.

Re: GOG Question - 11/29/12 12:54 AM

What is that? Is it from GOG? Did you go to My Account and download from there?

You've got a lot more patience than I do to wait over half an hour. If you were logged in, the games may still be in your shopping cart. Check your My Account page at GOG to see if the games are there. If not, the order probably didn't go through.

When I click Buy, it takes me to a page where I say how I want to pay for the games -- credit card or PayPal. If you didn't get that far, the order didn't go through.

Like others have said, IE seems to be a problem. Try a different web browser -- Firefox, Opera, or something.

Re: GOG Question - 11/29/12 03:40 AM

I paid 58.00 (a few cents less) with my Visa card, clicked the green pay spot, it lit up, and then nothing else happened. Bounced around after that. checked my cart, and and it still had the games in it. The My Account had nothing in it.

So, how do I change to Firefox?

Re: GOG Question - 11/29/12 03:48 AM

Download Firefox here and install it. You can use whichever browser you want any time.

Firefox

You said you never use IE, so which browser do you use?

Re: GOG Question - 11/29/12 03:57 AM

I am using IE. But how do you switch fron one to another. (this is where the granny dumbbell comes in)

I might already have Firefox in this stinking #7, cause it pops up sometimes telling me it has new upgrades.

Re: GOG Question - 11/29/12 04:06 AM

If you didn't download it, you don't have it. You don't switch at all - you just use whichever one you want.

My goodness, that was fast. When I saw that red ball, I remember that was what I had for years on my darling X-box.

On my way back to GOG.

Thanks super much.

Re: GOG Question - 11/29/12 06:47 AM

This is driving me insane, I have to get close with a magnet in order to see anything. The whole screen is a dull gray, and UGLY. I set it to 150 and still can't see it.
The only thing that got larger are the icons on the screen.

Got to GOG and it is the same way. Any hoo, this time it refused to except my password. Support said it sent me an Email, Good lord, does it take more than twenty five mins to get here?

burble burble burble

I don't understand. What happened here? What screen is a dull gray? Are you talking about a game or is this your desktop?

Twenty-five minutes to load the Gameboomers page? It shouldn't take more than a few seconds.

If your computer is acting up and doing weird things, you may have some sort of malware.

Re: GOG Question - 12/01/12 03:34 PM

Jenny, that 25 min. waswaiting for GOGs email...

Finally got a mail today, they say they can't reset my password because mails are blocked as Spam by my E-mail Account Provider 'ATT.Net, and deleted on the way. Also say they are working on it, don't know how long it will take.

Also say a possible workaround I could change my mail address assigned to my account to a different one from the provider -mostly everyone for example- Gmail, Yahoo, Hot Mail, AOL - and try to reset password again.
- - - - - -

So, I AM on Yahoo. DUH! Am I the only customer in the world left out of ATTs list when Yahoo took over ATT?

Anyway, why could GOG not have put the Password in THIS Email. ????

Re: GOG Question - 12/01/12 03:55 PM

Yes, but your Yahoo account is through AT&T. You need to go to your spam filter and either approve emails from GOG or retrieve them from the spam filter and allow them through.

I have had to show a couple of people whose computers I work on how to do this. Go to ATT Yahoo and log in to your email account. Then go to your spam filter.

ATT Yahoo

If you need to set up another email account, I would suggest either Gmail or Outlook.com which is replacing Hotmail.

Re: GOG Question - 12/01/12 07:46 PM

I did go thru all the spam for the last few days, and there was nothing there from GOG.GOG said they were deleted while on the way. I usually dump it once a week after scrolling to see if there was anything but spam

How would I go about approving emails from GOG ??

Re: GOG Question - 12/01/12 09:34 PM

It's possible it was deleted at the server. My ISP gives me a way to force certain domains through. I don't know if ATT Yahoo gives you that option. You might try looking in the support part of the website and doing a search.

To be honest, I think the easiest things would be to just create a Gmail account just for things like this and use it. Then you won't have to deal with Yahoo at all.

Re: GOG Question - 12/01/12 10:31 PM

I'M GOING CRAZY
I filled out the form for Gmail,
SEVEN times and each time it flipped back to put in a password. I think it's those wobbley thick letters they want you to type, I can't tell what the stupid letters are.

I'm going to turn the puter off and make myself a very LARGE glass of Disaronno & club soda, & hit the Telley.

Re: GOG Question - 12/01/12 11:03 PM

I don't know if it will help you, but gmail does have an "audio challenge" you can use instead of the "CAPTCHA" letters. (If you ask me, it's even worse than the letters though)

At least I see a "skip this verification" box. I'm not sure how that works. You may have to verify over the phone.

I see they've got a feedback page, where you can tell them the words were too hard to read (click the little question mark on the same line as the box for typing in the letters).

Re: GOG Question - 12/04/12 07:13 AM

Took a pill, and slept for 20 hours., and made a short visit the the Casino. So I'm ready for another go at getting downloads.

Put on my thinking cap (It does wok once in a while) and wondered why I did'nt just ask for a couple other download outfits to try.

So, which one's would be most likely to let me use IE? Do most of them have about the same price on their games????

Re: GOG Question - 12/04/12 02:52 PM

Well, there is Adventure Shop. The link to Adventure Shop is at the top of the page. But if you want something DRM-free your only alternative is DotEMU.com and some Gamersgate games. Note that Gamersgate games have a trick if you want to store them on DVD.

I have no idea if any of them has problems with IE9.

Big Fish is probably the easiest, since their Game Manager does everything. But some of the adventure games they offer have had problems due to compression and some have left out part of the larger adventure games to decrease the size.

Is there a problem with trying a browser like FireFox or Opera? You don't have to use them all the time if you prefer IE. IE will always prompt you to make it your default browser if your default browser is somehow changed by another browser.

Re: GOG Question - 12/04/12 04:14 PM

Thanks, sweets,. I got Firefox, but it opens with the same screen as IE with the same info, and just sits there, can't change anything. And for some reason, I can't grt the print large enough to see without my large magnent.

I'll give the places you gave me a look-see.
Thanks muchly.

How far do you get in the checkout, Granny?
Do you see a screen like this?
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/189/picture1nta.png

Does it let you choose credit card or Paypal?

Re: GOG Question - 12/06/12 05:39 AM

I got a box something that when I was putting the games in the cart, but when I clicked the BUY button, it went to the sign-In page again. All my info was there (name, address, credit cad info, Email info,) the Password line was blank, but it would not accept my password. That's when the fun ( Yaa, right) began.

I have never used Paypal, and there was no box for it anyway.
