Haunted can't save the game - 02/12/13 12:49 AM

Hi
I installed Haunted in my documents folder on win 7 64 bit but I can't seem to save the game.
I save it and it says game saved, but when I exit the game and start it again the save is not there. Continue and load game is greyed out. It worked fine on my XP system (which I don't have anymore). Please help with some suggestions. I had to use the no cd patch this time where I didn't on XP.

Have you tried right-clicking the game shortcut and choosing to "Run as Administrator?"

I played the download version and didn't have any issues installing it in the default location; Program Files(x86) - try Jenny's advice and start the game elevated with Administrator privileges.

Where this game stores it's saves is a mystery, I still haven't located them.

I tried running the short cut as administrator but that dosen't seem to work either. I'm stumped on this one. All my other games save fine.

Do you have an antivirus that could be blocking it?
Have you tried running it in compatibility mode?

I have someone at Mystery Manor who is have problems with this game in Windows 7 too - even though it is advertised as being compatible with Windows 7. I think this person's issue is that the game locks up at the "new game" screen even though they have more than the recommended minimum PC specs. Trying compatibility, run as administrator and a couple of other things have not worked.

I had a problem and I played with XP. It's a dual core and this was the first time ever I had to close one down to have it not lock up on me.

I played on XP with a dual core and didn't have to do anything special to get it to work. However because I had so little space on my C: partition I installed it on a different partition (I forget if it was E: or F: ). So it may be that the game sometimes works better if you don't install to the default location of C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86).

Hi Jenny
I installed it to C:\Program Files(x86) first and the save didn't take and I uninstalled it from there and ran Ccleaner, and then installed it to my user documents folder and the save wouldn't work there either. It worked fine on my XP. I wish I had kept my XP system. Here is my system specs with updated video drivers.

Antec 300 Case with 750 watt PS
Intel i5 3470 3.2 ghz cpu
GA Z77-HD3 M/B
LG DVDRW
ASUS GT-640-DCSL-2DG3 2 gigs
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1333
1TB Hard drive
Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

I just bought this computer 2 weeks ago.
Please let me know if the information is pertinent.

Your computer's specs are certainly good enough to play the game. If I understand correctly, the game plays, but won't save -- or is it that it won't load a save?

If the problem isn't an antivirus, the only other thing I can think of is to uninstall it and then change compatibility mode on the Setup file (install file) to Windows XP or Windows 2000 before reinstalling it.

Cathy1, I don't know if you solved this problem yet, but in any case this is the solution - find the folder Haunted that the game creates in your document folder (on Windows XP it's My Documents, not sure what's the Windows 7 parallel but I'm sure you'll find it).

Inside this folder, create a folder named 'save'. After that saving will work.

For some reason the game fails to create this folder on some systems, so you have to create it manually. It's not specific to Windows 7, to me it happened on Windows XP.

Also always try looking in the VirtualStore folder when you have these sort of problems in case Windows 7/Vista diverts the files to there.

The folder is just "Documents" in Windows 7, but there's also a shortcut named "My Documents" that will point to the Documents folder.

Is there anything in the Save folder? Open it up and take a look. If there's nothing there there's definitely an issue.

Also take a look at Ogrelog.txt in the LOGS folder, it's in the same location. Search for the following line -

Code:
Added resource location 'C:\Users\Your Name\Documents\Haunted\save' of type 'FileSystem' to resource group 'Save'

Are there any errors reported there?

I uninstalled the game a while ago because of this issue. It played fine and saved on my XP computer (which I no longer have) I 'll try some of these suggestions the next time I install it.
Thank you all for your help.
