Whispered World?

Whispered World? - 02/25/13 12:33 PM

I am not sure if this is the place to post this question and if it's not please feel free to send it to the proper forum. I installed and uninstalled my copy of this game and got a loud stuttering sound that continues through the opening video. I checked Amazon.com where other people are having the same problems to the point that they just gave up on the game and either gave or threw it away. It seemd like a very cute game in the demo but it's so buggy that I am just about ready to give it away also. Has anyone here who has played the game experienced the same?

I'll move the thread across to Glitches in case there's a fix for the sound problem. luck

See if defragging your hard drive helps. If not...

This kind of problem could be due to the copy "protection" rather than a problem with the game itself. Modern copy "protections" have the option to activate "trigger functions" which cause technical problems while playing the game rather than making it not start at all or giving an "Insert Disc" message when you try to start the game. The publishers don't want you to know the copy "protection" is what's causing your problems. They just assume you have an illegal download if your disc doesn't pass the disc check. I don't know for sure that this is the problem, but going by the comments on Amazon I am suspicious.

Or you could just have a bad disc, and the installer doesn't check for damaged files.

GOG has a DRM-free version. Or you could try a NoCD and see if that helps at all.

I wanted the game so bad that I had a hard copy with the sound problem and not to be detered I downloaded it from Amazon.com and the same thing happens. I guess it's kinda like the problem I had with Alter Ego . I am headed to You Tube and see if it's up there so I can at least watch it.

I have had success with this type of sound problem by installing the k-lite codec pack. My problems were usually with playing movies but it may relate.I have had to download this pack on every computer I have had to correct sound problems for some reason.Perhaps windows just supplies a minimum of codec drivers and things demand more?

I'm sorry to hear the download version wouldn't work for you either, Lexxy. There do seem to be YouTube playthroughs of Whispered World, though.

I don't know if what Geo suggested would help. Usually games supply what's needed along with the game, but maybe the K-Lite pack would work better than what was supplied with the game. If you try the K-Lite pack and it works, please let us know.

Geo didn't give a link, but there's a download here at FileHippo

There may be an option in the game that allows you to lower the screen resolution. I don't recall it's been a long time since I played it.

If your video card is slow, it may be causing the audio to lag as well. Look for an in-game setup option to change it. Try setting it to its lowest resolution.

I still have the game somewhere, I'll load it up later today and see what's available.

I downloaded this game from Gamersgate and the game played perfectly without any problems at all. It is an amazing game with a surprise ending. I figured out the ending 5 minutes before the end. A good 4.5 rating out of 5.
