The Raven

The Raven - 07/24/13 02:35 AM

I purchased, downloaded and installed this game from Zodiac. When I click "Play" the screen goes black but I can hear the game running in the background. I have checked the resolution and everything seem to be in order. Any ideas how to get this game running properly?

Thanks,

gameho

I don't know if this makes any difference, but in my game list I have Episodes 1, 2, 3 and the Digital Deluxe Edition. I installed the Deluxe Edition and it won't let me install an individual episode.

First off, does your computer meet the system requirements for the game?

OS:Windows XP SP3/Vista/7/8
Processor:2.0 GHz CPU
Memory:2 GB RAM
Graphics:DirectX 9c compatible graphic card with 256 MB RAM and PixelShader 3.0
DirectX®:9.0c

This is a good thing to confirm first before troubleshooting the problem. wave

Episodes 2 and 3 are not released yet. Only episode 1 is released today.
I presumed that you paid for all 3 and will be notified when 2 and 3 are out.

Just to add to Marian's comments - this type of issue can also occur with integrated graphics processors.

Post the specs of your PC back, then we'll have a better idea of what's going on.

Okay, I will try posting this here as well, although I don't know that anyone will be able to help. Still, doesn't hurt to try. I purchased this game from Nordic Games, and instead of a download of the game, all I received was a Raven JPEG image. I tried e-mailing the company, but all I got was an automated response telling me where my download was located, which I already knew.

Is anyone here having this problem or know of someone else who is? I would understand if it were a common problem that the company was willing to fix, but if so, I haven't received this information. I don't want to request a return, but I may have to if I never receive the actual game.

Just a guess but its a possibility that if you are using Norton or some other antivirus software that it may have quarentined the game file part of the download and that is why you only see an image file left.

Thanks for the response, GreyFuss. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus software. I checked the quarantined files, and there isn't anything there. Also, when I click on the download, it gives me the message, "You have chosen to open: The_Raven_300x200.jpeg which is a: JPEG image." So unfortunately, it looks as though the problem is on their end. I wish it was on my end; it would make things a lot easier. lol

It sounds like Gameho has a different problem than you do Venus, since she managed to download and install the game and you weren't even able to download it. If there's something blocking your download, it's more likely something built into your web browser (IE, Firefox, or whatever) than it is Microsoft Security Essentials. I hope Nordic Games' tech support is better than Dreamcatcher's ended up being.

Jenny, I believe I really was sent an image instead of a game. Even before I click on the download link, I am given this title - "The_Raven_300x220.jpg." It's listed this way in my e-mail and in the Find My Order link. And when I do click the download button, the size is only 34.3 KB - definitely way too small for a game.

I am using Firefox, but I tried disabling things and using different browsers. I even tried a different computer, but nothing worked.

When I contacted customer service for the second time, they gave me the same advice GreyFuss did, but it won't make any difference if the file is just an image to begin with. Sadly, I am just trying to get my order returned at this point. I may just wait until the entire game comes out, and get it from GOG.

Yes, my computer meets all of the system requirements. If I had to take a guess, I'd say it's something to do with the resolution, as it only comes up with a black screen after I've launched the game -- with the audio playing in the background. Unfortunately, the game seems to have no external configurations menu, and changing my monitor's resolution does nothing.

So, you DON'T have integrated graphics then, gameho?

Re: The Raven - 07/25/13 05:25 AM

It works! My IT guy (son) and IT janitor (husband) switched monitors, adjusted the resolution and then changed the monitors back. Now the game is running fine (so far!). Thanks for all of your help.
